SE already said they would continue to support FFXI as long as people want to play it... they wont just shut it down because of FF14... if anything they will kill some servers and have server migrations if the player base gets smaller.

But yeah... FFXI might not see as many updates once this comes out, but I doubt they will ignore us.

I'm pretty sure they have 2 planned DL only expansions guaranteed to come.

Thats what i am saying Cazon, they must have something in sleves to put that. Because if FFXI was going downs like DOWN! What would happend to the older that made a effort to get all the jobs and stuff :P.

I hope they put new jobs like Chocobo Knight and Onion Knight it would be cool :D

This is great and I might have to buy a PS3 because I don't think my computer can run this game unfortunately.

Laughing at all the masochists lining up for a second round of assfucking from SE. You'd have to be insane to think this will be any different from FFXI. Same company that doesn't give a shit about its community, same juvenile devs who force their unkillable mobs down your throat and then get off every night on how awesome they are for it, same forced integration, same console bullshit.

You really need some counseling.

Awesome! I just downloaded the trailer and it looks beautiful! I can't help but think this is a sequel to XI... PLEASE SE let us import our XI characters and for the love of god, keep the job system!

2010 can't come fast enough.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the new forum? Iuno. Anyway, in an attempt to draw anything I can out of the picture, there appear to be throwing-knife-esque things on the table, and like crystals holstered.. though this could just be random early art.

Kid with horns is suspicious, maybe it's just something being worn on the head... And it looks like theres a girl with a distinctly dragoon-ish lance in there (though really, were they ever not going to bring dragoon into the game)

Really, I'm just looking for an automaton or something to be hidden away in there somewhere..

- The "galka" has no tail, thus, is not a galka, they probably just used the galka frame as a reference to allow people to let "size" selection mean something.
- the elf is an elf. 3/4 of MMOs today have elves, and half of those have multiple kinds of elves.
- The hume looks like a FFXI hume, but so? Humans are humans, and it probably made for a good base model.
I'm glad they cut out the tails, because it looks terrible. You want to have a huge, muscular fighter, not some stupid tail. That's actually the only reason I didn't pick Galka when I started, the tail.

The Hume and Elvaan in the trailer look nearly identical to XI.

Eorzea is certainly a new location, but there's no reason to think it can't be connected to Vana'diel. We've only seen like, 25% of the mapped out world, not including time travel and alternate dimesions.

Also, to get people to leave 7 years of work on XI and start from scratch without any benefit is stupid. I agree, you're not going to transfer and just be level 75, but maybe once you level up, you'll get access to some stuff you had, or possibly new bonuses on a new character for starting over. Also, this could be limited to only one job. It certainly wouldn't break the game in any way. People are going to be max level in a week or less anyway.

I am really looking forward to see more info on this game, so I can get a better idea how it may be. The official website has also the some producing staff info on: Tanaka is the skipper on this.

If there is one thing I do wish to continue to see in next game is more-than-a-few job change system.

About the future of FFXI, even there is little question FFXI will see a probably a large dip in population, but I see still plenty of room FFXI can still develop even at current stage. Its being the last major bastion of EQ1 style MMORPG will make it to last. I can see at least 2-3 years of FFXI life. (And FYI, EQ1 is still alive).

What makes a MMORPG successful or not is always the game play. Graphics, even if important, what makes a MMORPG goes on is its content. There are other MMORPG that have better graphics than FFXI, but failed MUCH faster than FFXI. EQ1 graphics in modern standard is downright horrible too, but it is still alive. I am looking forward to hear the world view and game play of FFXIV -- that is what will make the game kick butt or just become another only-good-for-look and died in 1-2 year MMORPG.

I think it would be a little hard for most PCs to run a game that looks like that in MMO form. Thats why its a PS3 exclusive atm, thats one of the ideas behind FFXI being released for PS2 only at first.

You can play this game at lower setting. Like 640x480 should do fine for your computer.

am i the only one that suddenly doesnt feel like playing ffxi anymore? i've finally come to the point in game where i have one job at 75... 2010 is less then a year away from here, seems like a waste of time trying to lvl another job. cause seriously i dont think you'll be able to take your character with you to ffiv (i can hope and dream about it though).
#217 Jun 02 2009 at 1:53 PM Rating: Default
I wander if we will have to pay to play FF14 if we are already paying for FF11. Would kinda sux to have to pay for both games if you wanna play both still.
#218 Jun 02 2009 at 1:54 PM Rating: Default
Well severien, i feel that too... so we have to wait to see about that.

Mistress maybe FFXI will stop. since it is a Final Dantasy serie. First was Rapture, nothing about FF and possibly was somthing diferent, as you can see, it is a new FF. So FFXI possible go down.

Verrrry interesting.

Definitely mithra there, and the the big front page picture on the official site also looks like it shows a male mithra (the one seated at the table near the center).

One thing I do like is that they seem to have scaled down the height on the elvaan to a more reasonable level. The one in the trailer is only a little taller than the human, and shorter than the 'galka', instead of the dhalmels they have here.

The 'tarus' in the front page picture look more like children than FFXI tarus, having proportionally sized heads/arms/legs instead of our lovable bobble-heads; so a bit less cartoonish, and more 'hobbit'-like.

Amazing detail on the characters and clothing in the fight in the trailer. Hope that carries over into more variety in the available gear.

I'm sorry but this really pisses me off how lying and sneaky Sony are, misusing the word exclusive. When I first saw it, my thoughts were, well I might as well buy a ps3 now, why not? I'm just so RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE right now at them.

I'm sure many EU players will agree with me, we're so used to waiting up to years of localization, that we won't even notice it being a timed exclusive

It's coming to windows its NOT an exlcusive for crying out loud.

Anyways now thats out of the way, let's review;

Regardless of dirty Sony, I'm rather quite happy with SE right now, keeping the races, keeping the final fantasy title, and not holding it out any longer.
And I CANNOT DISPLAY HOW HAPPY I AM THAT THEY GOT NOBUO TO COMPOSE IT!

I'm pretty sure this is rapture, it was a code name and all, plus theres no way they would think of putting 3 MMOs out at once. I'm still waiting for actual game play though, these scenes look like pre rendered to me.

I don't wanna sounds like a stupid MS fanboy, but thers only so long they can pull something like this off without MS throwing the wads, so to speak. I wouldn't be half suprised if it lost its exclusivity before next yaers E3, and well before its release...

If character transferring were to happen, I'd want it to be something similar to Salvage or what they have in the newer Pokemon games.

You still start off with nothing, but when you do some content in the new world on your new character, you gradually unlock things you once had on your old character (Maybe new "FoV"-style treasure boxes in XIV that contains your old gear piece by piece?). If character transfer was done like that, I doubt there would be complaints from people who spent all of their work on XI and lost everything, as well as people who want to start fresh and think transferring would be game-breaking.
