Heya guys, I was looking to deactivate my account because I haven't been playing much lately. However, I know that I will most likely be back at some point. How to I stop having to pay the monthly fee without losing my character forever? Is there a time limit that SE has set that if you don't have an active account you lose your character? Thanks in advance!

According to some random state with too much time on its hands, the way you do it is impossible and it cannot be done at all.

...or right before you enter game you instead hit "Content IDs" and cancel your IDs there.

Yeah, PyroElf got it. Cancel your Content ID's. You can still use your characters until this month is up (you already paid in advance for them), but you won't be able to use them on the first.

I believe they give you a grace period... I don't recall how long that is, though. I've heard anything from three months to a year before they delete your characters once the ID's are cancelled. I've also heard that they now NEVER delete your characters. So, I don't know. Maybe try to call SE on that. But I would probably let it go a couple months, then sign up for a month, then cancel again, just to be sure.

I have been playing ffxi since NA release and I took a 3 year break from ffxi I deactivated my content IDs but did not delete the characters on the IDs and when I came back about a month and a half ago My characters where still there exactly how i left them. as long as you just deactivate payment on the ID and not actually delete anything you will be fine
