"playonline not working properly"Follow

#1 Sep 05 2009 at 2:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all, this is my first post and i need some help.

I've been playing ffxi off and on for a while and have never had a problem with PlayOnline till last night. Last night I logged in ffxi for a while, then logged out -- about an hour or two hours later, i tried to log back in, but got a prompt when trying to run PlayOnLine that it wasn't working properly and that my Windows Vista was going to shut it down. I tried running PlayOnline over and over, but kept getting the same response, I decided to uninstall and reinstall it, which I did over and over again only to get the same response. Finally, since i was desperate, I uninstalled ffxi (which the manual recommends when trying to reinstall playonline), then reinstalled playonline only to get the same prompt saying that the program isn't working right.

Has this happened to anybody else? Does anybody know of any remedy? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

do you use mcafee antivirus, if so its picking up a file as a virus and deleting it, and that missing file could be the issue.

also, if running vista, you need to d/l the vista pol client from SE's website, dunno if that helps, try running a spyware/virus check, as something may be using the same ports ffxi uses that you might not be aware of.

McAfee has already fixed that problem btw.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

Thanks to all of your help, the problem has been solved. Special thanks to KutagaKyia for suggesting that I download the pol vista version from the SE website. I had already been using the vista version, but didn't know (or remember) that I could download it whole from the SE website.

Now i just have to reintall ffxi (which I needlessly uninstalled), then wait about 10 years to download all of the updates, then I'll be back on Titan server.

Thanks all, sincerely.
