Curious what your guys experience is on drop rates with doing salvage.

Basically trying to get an idea of time reward.

For example I use sky as a good example IMO good drop there takes about 40 hours of time. i.e. 4 hours a day twice a week for 5 weeks.

What is your experience and input on time/reward for salvage

My current group has gotten 27 level 35 pieces in 75 runs, so about 1 35 per 3 runs. Group size of 6-8 people. Casual group does maybe two runs a week, hardcore group can do 5 runs per week. An average of 18-24 runs for any given person to get a single piece, which is 2-3 months for casual groups, or a month to a month and a half for hardcore groups. Multiply by however many pieces you want. Can usually expect for it to take well over a year to go 5/5 on a set (I'm still 3/5 after two years).

My group's numbers are similar to Kinematics' -- our average at last tally was about one 35 piece per week, at three runs a week over the last year and half. This average is from clearing all possible NMs in each run, so if your group is newer and learning the ropes, drops will of course be lower, but don't be discouraged. Since the drop rates are low, I focus on making the runs, and Salvage overall, an enjoyable experience, so that folks won't burn out and look at it as a chore. Salvage is the most fun I have in game these days, drops or not, and I feel that's the best way to approach it.

At first I think you have to accept a steep learning curve so your drop rate won't necessarily be that high at the start. Once you get to know each other and how things work, it becomes faster, you kill more and it's easier to get drops.

You will get more drops if you can go 3-4 times a week. We did just under 6 months of going about twice a week, only completed 7 pieces but did see 3 other 35s and a bunch of 25s, 15s etc. We're trying to raise the number of runs to 3 a week and with our current group hope to see quite a rise in drops.

For us, an ideal group has been MNK, SAM or MNK, THF, BRD, WHM, RDM. Throw in another MNK for a seventh and another healer for Bhaf if you really want. All runs can be done with 6 and often are easier (Arrapago/ZR) with 6 than with 8.

Right on, I think what killed it for me (Besides 120+ runs of Salvage and nothing to show for it but a couple rot items) was how every week someone else wouldn't show up, or one other member wouldn't have the assault points, so you always have to find fill-ins or change plans, or cancel all together.

It's a serious event with hard to obtain, expensive to upgrade, elite pieces of gear that takes a serious commitment of time and teamwork to achieve.

I did Salvage 2-3 times a week for 8 months and ended up with 4 completed pieces.

However, I completed all 4 in the last 6 weeks of doing it (hence why I stopped) if that tells you anything.

I'm currently sporting a Deimos Cuirass on my 38 DRK in East Ronfaure (S).

Some things will drop with more frequency than others. I have a pair of macha's slops waiting for their matching 25 pants, because nearly every time we do Silver Seas we fight Powderkeg. (And the one time we fought Dekka, he ponied up for me, so we went back to the other route.)

On the other hand, if it comes from a Reactionary Rampart, you could go more than a year without even seeing the freaking NM that drops the items, let alone an actual drop.

I was in Rowanbael's Salvage group for about a year and half (only reason I don't still go is a new work schedule), and I'll echo his sentiment.

If you can find a group that will stick together, and you find a way to have fun during the runs, it can be a very enjoyable experience.

The drop rate is low, especially compared to Sky (The example you gave), but the feeling of reward when you complete a piece is great, and a lot of Salvage pieces are incomparable to Sky items so it's hard to give you a time/reward ratio. (You can get MHands from Sky in a couple hours, but they're worthless compared to an Ares's Cuirass for PLD. You can get a Byakko's Haidate in a few hours in Sky, and they're far more versatile and useful for WAR. It all depends on the piece and the job you're using it for, and your situation in regards to Sky drops versus Salvage, there's tons of examples but you get the point).

If there's Salvage gear you're interested in, I highly advise trying to join a group or form one, but I also recommend doing it with previously-established friends. (Ones with a lot of patience and a long attention span are a plus). I've seen more Salvage statics break up than anything, by far, because most people don't understand the commitment involved before they get into it.

Thanks for the replies guys.

My ls has been runing salvage and needed one more. I really was not interested since the only pieces i wanted came with a 15M price tag. (Ares body) But figure I will help them out, since it is a fun group of friends, and if I get the body pieces... I will worry about getting the extra gil later.

My ls was pretty diehard on salvage for a little over a year. Basically did salvage 7 days a week. Had anywhere from 6-24 people interested in salvage on any given night so most nights, we were also split up running multiple zones simultaneously. End result was typically 20 completed salvage armor pieces a month with our best month being 30 completed pieces. This was done legitimately without the dupe trick which lead to mass suspensions. In fact, we really started going salvage crazy roughly around when those bans hit and the dupe trick was fixed. Personally I was part of this dedicated salvage group for about 13 months. I have a full set of Usukane, full set of Morrigans and Skadi feet to show for it (so 11 pieces completed in roughly a year for me). Salvage interest has dropped since and for the past few months, the ls does salvage roughly 4-5 times a week and often it's only 1 group for the night. Still completing roughly a dozen armor pieces a month it seems based on our attendance and drop spreadsheet. I don't go as much anymore since my playtime has dropped significantly in recent months.

Salvage drop rates due vary greatly depending on what pieces you're after though. We still need plenty of Usukane bodies and Morrigans legs because SSR treats us horribly. Rampart runs can go months without seeing the drop you're after, and then result in 3 drops in one night.

5% is what I've seen.

So about 1 out of 20 times of killing the same monster, something will drop that's of use to someone (not necessarily someone in your group or of a job in your group).

Eleven months of doing salvage 4-5x a week net me with 5/5 Morrigan and 4/5 Usu pieces (missing 15 & 35 body). In addition, I have 1 marduk and 1 skadi piece completed. However, it took us forever to do get 35 usu feet, the damn bees would not put out.

All depend on LUCK.

I started to go to salvage about 7 months ago after I returned to the game. After a few training sessions with experienced LSmates, most of the time, I joined pick-up group salvage with JP. I did 3-5 times a week. To best of my memory:

BR
1F: Countless Morri hands, 2-3 Marduk legs
2F: 4 Usu feets but only 1 Skadi head
3F: 0 Ares hands, skadi head forgot, you know, not many leaders go to this floor
4F: 3 Skadi body, Marduk legs forgot, leaders only go to this floor if they go for boss, the pop rate and drop rate is good!

AR
2 Morri body, I got mine from the first run on 3F
Countless Ares body
0 Ares / 1 Morri head, leaders always skip it unless someone want it
3 Skadi feets, 4 Usu legs, 1 Marduk hands, 2 times, the chariot drop 35x2

ZR
Countless Usu hands and Skadi legs, 0 Marduk body
3-4 Morri feets, 3-4 Marduk head, 0 Ares feets

SSR
Most visited zone
Usu head, forget
1 Morri legs
1 Marduk feets
3 Skadi hands
Countless Ares legs
Countless Usu body, but I am sure Usu body dropped more often than Usu head

ykfan you make me want to cry...

Our group only does a double run once a week, so we expect low drops... but this is about it:

AR
Ares body 35 - 5 so far, I would say about 10% drop rate or higher
Morrigan body 35 - 1 so far... too many to count. 2% drop maybe?
1/30 or so on the Chariot only got Usukane...

BR
Honestly haven't put much focus on this zone, a couple memebers have what they want from previous groups and no one else has a main piece they want.

ZR
0/8 no on Skadi legs 35... last piece I need. 1/8 on Marduk body *groan*
0/1 on floor 6 frog

SSR
Evil, evil zone...
0/20+ on Hammerblow
0/5 on Ares's legs 35

So far we have 3 people that have the full Ares's body upgrade, just need gil, we have got a Morrigan's body, and hands and Usukane legs. We run with 6-8 people all the time, and we focus on getting a piece for everyone and base our runs that way. We spend a lot of time in SSR now because the drop rate is so bad... hoping to see Ares's legs as my first affordable upgrade.

Boss chariots have been pretty good with the drops we need though. We'll be doing a lot of BR eventually for those drops... but that can wait.

Luck is a part of it, but I recommend being persistant. Definitely some good rewards in there.

Regarding that 15M price tag... I hope you do know that that number significantly drops into the realm of only slightly unreasonable if you have these benefits:

A) Belong to a Dynamis shell that allows for free-lotting on Wootz ore that falls in Bastok or Beaucidine Glacier, or at the very least the ability to purchase at a discount rate versus the AH

B) Have a crew of 6 friends that are willing to put in the time to sickeningly spam ISNM75s to get Khroma or have the hours of mindnumbing time to mine Mount Zhayolm for a drop that in my experience (22,781 swings, 8,205 pickaxes, and 18 Khroma ores in the last 20 months which equals 0.08%... quite different than the 0.2% that FFXIwiki proclaims).

Imp. Wootz Ingot = Fire + 1Wootz + 2Khroma + 1Iron

Grandlethal... I call shenanigans on your 10% drop rate on Lvl35 ares body.

If you really, really want Salvage gear, I recommend going every day or close to it. Insofar as drop rates, my group has existed for eight months and done approximately 200 runs, and we've gotten 64 35 drops, which is 32% (on a per-run basis). Of course, it doesn't usually feel that high because drops often come in bunches (especially in Bhaflau).

The trick with Salvage isn't so much getting things to drop as it is getting the things you want to drop. It took me about six months of near-daily Salvage to complete my full Marduk's. I got my Enlil's Tiara and Enlil's Gambison in the same run, but it was dozens and dozens of Bhaflau runs before I got my Enlil's Brayettes. In fact, to date, my group has only gotten one pair of Brayettes - and NINE pairs of Hikazu Sune-ate. Salvage is random as hell, and largely an unmerciful ***** goddess. But if you plug away, you'll get where you need to be.

We've still never seen a Macha's Crown or Deimos's Leggings.

It also really helps that I like doing Salvage a lot.

Salvage 1 1/2 years, 1-3 runs a week,

3 Completed pieces because of losing people, people not having points, getting a 35 and quitting ( 5/5 ares 35 body winners quit after getting that piece) We broke up back before Thanksgiving 09, I'm sitting with 3 - 35s, Usu hands, Skadi feet/legs and just now working up to possible start it again. My biggest fear is finding a non princess, actually worthwile bard that doesnt have some weird job schedule where he/she will miss 75% of the runs.
