So... Krabkatoa....

Am I the only one who expects this thing to
be worthy of being named after Krakatoa? What
I mean is, maybe if you don't kill it fast
enough, it will erupt in a self-destruct
detonation so powerful everyone in the zone
dies...

It's an interesting system...

A friend and I played around with it a bit earlier. She was on rdm, I was on blu. We went to east ronfaure and popped some mobs for a while. Quagmire Pugil and Sunderclaw (crab) showed up every time. We were able to duo them just fine, they weren't too tough (though not easy).
We got ~200xp per fight, which was actually kinda cool for things we could duo like that. Getting up to chain 3 or so, we were enjoying the exp. Magic seemed to work well on them, too, which was nice. Was thinking it was a cool exp idea. Then my key item upgraded to the colored abyssite.

The next mob we found was Capricornus, a gnarly looking pugil who is just mean as all hell. Seriously, that thing sucks. Was hitting me for 300-350 per hit on my blu when shadows dropped (which happened a lot due to the lousy pugil attack rate).
Also, after a bit, it popped mighty strikes and used it's Recoil Dive move (which takes all 3 shadows, like a super upgraded screwdriver) for about 800 dmg a pop. It used it 5 times in a row. We wiped on the 5th, dunno how many more it woulda done.

We tried it again, buffing up this time, and it was no better. The thing seems to have some finicky hate issue. It liked to take off after her when she barely did anything to it and I was unloading damage on it.
We also learned that it seems to be able to throw out it's 2 hour when it feels like it, since it did it a few times. And that Recoil Dive thing is a *****... he slams everyone in sight.

Anyway, we couldn't get past him, and saw a party of 7 have some issues with it, but finally kill it.
Saw one other mob, a Sea Monk NM... Yacu... something. It's also in ronfaure, and also mean.
Seems to be a tiered set up. Kill enough monsters, upgrade your abyssite for finding stronger ones. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I do like the idea of it, though. Monsters just past our dimension wandering around, and using the key item and resting to pull them through.
Resting with the key item, though, is a bit dangerous. You can get unlucky and rest right on a mob by accident... as we found out.

Sunderclaw East Ronfaure [S]

Crab

Used Scissor Guard often, and it seemed quite powerful, dropped axe attacks from around 60 per hit to 5 per hit.

Killed with carrie.

Solo got 300 exp.

Voidwalkers? Not to stir anything up, but a Voidwalker is a summon in a certain game run by a certain company that is also a spell cast by Shiva or a BLM

I just got done experimenting with this system before Fenrir went down for maintenance. It's pretty cool. I grouped with a samurai, whm and a rdm (whm and rdm were being dual boxed). We fought the pixie line in batallia downs and rolanberry. The T1 spawns were simple elementals. They cast all traditional spells according to their element, including ancient magic and T III gas. Water elemental seemed fond of poisonga and earth elemental cast stone IV on us a lot, but all the spells were there. The only thing noteworthy of the elementals is just common sense. They're resistant to melee damage but skillchain and magic bursts tear through them. Our white mage landed a 1700 damage holy burst after we made light, so with the traditional skillchain + burst tier 1 farming is a cakewalk and a half. Actually I lie, there is one other noteworthy thing about them. They appeared to be immune to sleep and heavily resistant to enfeebles. Our red mage was having a hell of a time controlling them, and we spawned two at one point and were unable to sleep the add at all. Those were thunder and earth at the time, so crowd control is difficult if you pop many elementals at once.

We only fought three mobs in T2. They were all pixies. One was a red mage pixie which used chainspell multiple times. We weren't expecting that and it devastated us. We recovered but used our benediction and meiysho in the process. The red mage pixie cast a lot of nasty stuff. Graviga, bindga, and more. It was difficult to handle because we were low manning it and when he used chainspell he cut through us with T4 nukes. The other two pixie's were both dancers. These had some evasion to them but what really hurt was their trance. When the dancer used trance he had a pretty powerful zerg. He has a TP attack that inflicts the mute status effect. I've never seen mute before. Unlike silence echo drops didn't work when I was muted. They had no effect. It also has an amnesia attack and a sleep as well as the standard recovery abilities. The first dancer we fought didn't give us a T3 key item, but the second did. After we had fought the first dancer the second one went down a lot easier.

The key items are not a 100% drop, but once you have one you can keep spawning nms until you get the next. (IE: You don't lose your T1 key item if you don't get your T2 key item after the pixie dies). We didn't actually wipe though, so i don't know if you lose your key item after a wipe. It was a lot of fun. I like this system.

Oh yeah, these look like they are going to be fun.

For the final stages of the Multi hit weapons you seem to need 10 of the signature drops from these VNMs.

You need to kill a tier 1 get the key item to upgrade (which is not 100%) Kill a tier 2, get item to Upgrade (again, not 100%) then Kill tier 3, which drops Up to 2 o fthe item you need.

Also, just for fun, it seems your Key item May Break, putting you back at square 1.

And these are for the most part (barring good strong solo jobs) Soloable. The t1 ones may be, however as you progress, they get significantly harder.

The tier 3's also seem to have a signature "evil" move. The crab has a poison you cannot remove, im assuming it will eventually wear, but it s 40-60 Hp drain a tick O.o, The vampire has a Move which makes Hp and MP regeneration Impossible, and is Not removable except possibly via Sacrifice, however a whm unable to heal is not a good thing.

All in all, these seem like they will be the new bane of players, as we'll need to kill multiples of these to upgrade our weapons -_-.

However, the upside, only 1k for the pop item.

I agree. This is some radical stuff here. When S-E promised us a show in the coming months they weren't kidding.

Even the garden varieties will confound would-be challengers with their unfamiliar and formidable powers. These and a whole host more await hapless adventurers with open arms and voracious maws.

I've never been struck with mute, a silence that cannot be removed. Nor have I seen an irremovable poison or disease etc. They may have existed before now but they're very rare if that's the case. The T2 NM's I've fought all came with their 2 hr and when they use it they were frightening. And this is just T2 and T3 voidwalkers. Just imagine what it's going to be like when the true realm of Abyssea is opened up to us. The upper eschelon Voidwalkers are on par with current HNM status. This is awesome. I love the VNM system so far, but that may just be because it's a fresh new system with some intriguing rewards. But it's added some new elements to battle never before seen and it's exciting to think about what more is to come.

Promathia can mute in the final CoP battle. Also there has been a few mobs that can quasi-mute, in other words it's a silence that can be removed but not 100%... it can take a few tries like trying to remove Doom with Cursna. I'd be curious if folks tried many times to remove Krab's poison or if they tried once, failed, and assumed it was a full-blown mute.

Don't be ridiculous, you can't remake a movie that hasn't been released in the theater yet.

We went out and did this a bit last night. Actually rather fun and different. We were out in Rolanberry and popped at least 10 T1 mobs. Only 2 out of the 8 people got the ability to look for T2's. We popped 2 different fairy NM's (T2)... like Melph above, one was RDM and was a pretty brutal fight. The second one seemed to be a WHM/DNC or something. No Silence move, but caused amnesia a few times and had a pretty big AOE (roughly 700 damage to my THF). The fairies seem to 2-hour every 25% so somewhat predictable.

No drops from anything though, which sucked, but it was a really fun time :)
