Trial of the Magians WarningFollow

Sub species do not count apparently. I went to kill Erecu(Red crawlers) on Mount z for my weapon and my count did not go up open the kill with all the necessary requirements up.(Earth weather gave exp etc).

At least I can confirm you do get credit for subbing the Magian Weapons.

I have been using my Pick of Trials (Decimation Weapon Skill Trial) and Splinter (Trial Of the Magians) and have been getting credit for both using Weapon Skills on EPs for Axe the Competition quest and also killing Easy Prey Lizards for Trial of the Magians Trial 290.

It's probably specific to erucas only, perhaps a bug (hehe). Treants and saplings both count as treants, skeletons and draugar as skeletons, etc.

How many eruca did you kill btw? A single kill could have been a glitch or some funky weather switching. Did you try the green defoliators yet?

I kind of just got frustrated and left. It is a dangerous area to just hang out and I only went there to not get trouble from people doing other things.(And the weather was right) So I book it out of there after one.

Could be "Sub species" as in just one that get special tp moves. I can double check tonight if weather is in the right mood out on mount z.

Oh, I can't test on green ones becuase I need to kill crawlers in earth, dark, water, or ice weather.

Since I know for a fact that Bats count towards any Trial that requires killing Birds, I would venture to say that it's actually a glitch with Eruca themselves and not just an issue with any sub-species.

Exactly, same with Saplings and Treants. They are totally different Mob classes, but both count.

The only thing i can think, is since they are a ToAU exclusive mob, they play by other rules?

Or Se just messed up and forgot to include them in the Equasion. Or they figured people would be nuts to Willingly fight them?

I dunno XD

That's a touch frustrating. For my lizard trial, Raptors and Lizards are both counting towards it. This is great for areas like Cape Terrigan.

Slightly off the OP topic, but similar in subject...

It seems like you're doing one of the PUP trials.

Another warning you want to watch out for, is when you get to the trials that involve pet kill shots: skillchains DO NOT count as a kill.

For instance, do Stringing Pummel and your puppet follows with Bone Crusher, that creates Fragmentation. If the monster dies because of Fragmentation, the kill doesn't count.

I guess on some level I can understand why, but it's really annoying.

(On that note, DoT spells from your puppet that result in killing the monster do not count either.)

bats work for bird kills? thats awesome.

I've been killing Murre in Caederva for the last few days and since I heard that colibri count I've been seeking (Bird Killer) parties since yesterday. Why is it that I only get invites to mamool ja meripos now?

I am actually happy to learn that Raptors do count for the Lizard trials. I actually was made to believe not, when I noticed that Raptors are listed as "Raptor Family" in the ffxi wiki.

Do Cockatrices count as Lizards or as Birds for these trials? I am pretty sure they are lizards, but for some reason I am led to believe they might instead count as Birds, after all they do drop feathers.

IN trials where you are asked to fight under certain weather, do the SCH storm spells count if your under the effect of one?

Im doing the "activate add effect" trial on vermin too and not getting any confirmation of progress killing crawlers in B.Tree. Trying flies just in case.

Edit : Nothing on flies either. Either this trial is broken, or is (very stupidly) doesn't report on your progress.

Anyone else been doing "activate effect" trials, were you getting log updates on your progress like other trials?

Edit 2 : Turns out i had the wrong trial flagged.

Thanks for heads up I am doing the pup ones. Going for pet Magic acc +10. Can't wait until I can just only worry about the day!

Why not go back to the moogle ratty and trade it and see if he says any progress.(The moosle will list a --/100 when you trade him.)

Wow is that for sure how it works for those types of trial?

Why put in an awesome thing like "live update" of your trial status on most trials, but not on others?...

Edit : Well turns out that through some menu mess-up i had the wron trial set to my weapon. Gladly you're able to stop a trial and continue down another branch without wiping the weapon. Whew. Guess it'll probably work right this time.

I do not know how those trials work but I figured you can at least check if it's glitching through that method! I am glad to hear you figure out what was wrong.^^

They count as Birds.

Thanks for the clarification. I must point out that since IRL the line between lizards and birds is blurred, after all, Raptor type dinosaurs and Birds are all related. It is interesting how Cockatrices count as Birds, while Raptors count as Lizards (Neither can fly, both look very dinosaur-like).

May be a silly question but trial 539 requires Sheep family, but the only sheep I see listed on wiki that will con as EP to a 75 are the Wild Karakul ~ are there other sheep/offshoots of sheep I can farm instead? Karakul spawn chigo's and have a butt ton of HP, definately not looking forward to it. Also, these are a unique species to ToAU also, does anyone know if they count?

Thank you

Karakuls seem to be the only option if giving EXP is a requirement. Not sure if Rams would count, but they're technically harder than the Karakul.

It's nice to hear that there are some species that count as others (bats for birds). If I'm lucky, bombs can count as clusters too, since I'm not really looking forward to 300 kills on mt. zhaylom. Go-go /bst!

Syncing works if you can find a friend willing to sync with you out in highlands or something.

Was gonna do that for DRK friend in the LS. Wasn't sure Level Sync would work. Thanks for confirmation.
