Trojan Horse on disc...?Follow

#1 Mar 31 2010 at 7:02 AM Rating: Decent
Recently purchased a copy of XI and when beginning the installation process, my anti-virus pops up and informs that a trojan horse has been found on the disc. Naturally this was very unsettling and I have not yet completed the installation.

Before I complete the install, I need to know whether others have had this same experience and if so, what was done to resolve it. I have scoured the forums ato find an answer, as yet to no avail.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you're certain it's a fresh, authentic copy, there's a good possibility it's a false positive.

You may want to give us the exact trojan name.

there were issues with AVG I think that were marking the playonline.exe file as a trojan I believe.

I know that a few months ago, avast was flagging one of the core windower files as a virus. That got patched in a day or so.

But that's neither here nor there.

The file on the disc that is being picked up is 'polsysteminfo.exe'.

I'm certain it's a genuine copy. I ran it three times and it always picks it up. False positive was my first thought. I've emailed SquareEnix support for confirmation.

Reply from SquareEnix:

Thank you for calling the Square Enix Support Center.

I have heard of antiviruses calling files viruses before this is usually because info is trying to be sent to the PC and also sent to our servers. Please continue installation as normal.

Thank you for contacting the SQUARE ENIX Support Center.

Thank god for that! Can get on with playing the game now. Thank you all for the responses.

Not surprised. The file that got flagged is the system analysis file. Anything that scans all your hardware and software tends to raise a red flag with your antivirus. Certain other *ahem* utilities that *cough* provide you with... extended trials of software are likewise caught and deleted... Or so I've heard. I mean, not like I know personally. Friend of mine told me.

... What?
