How many of you are going to keep both accounts open and play both FFXIV and FFXI? Myself I plan on just playing FFXIV. I had a good run with FFXI but all but 2 of my FFXI Friends have quit. There really isn't much left for me in FFXI, its time for new friends and a all new experience!

As awesome as Final Fantasy XIV sounds I am with the half that will remain with Final Fantasy XI. I have devoted too much time to this one MMO and I feel like if I left I would be abandoning all that hard work that my friends, Square Enix and all its players have put into the game over all these years. EverQuest is still running strong after all, Final Fantasy XI isn't going anywhere for a very long time. And they can still add awesome content to it for a long time yet. One of the deciding factors was the Alpha test. If I were chosen to test it out and get a piece of that tempting pie than maybe I would change my mind. If you are more of a casual WoW player or casual in general, FFXIV will probably be for you. If you're more of a hardcore Final Fantasy Tactics fan, than Final Fantasy XI is for you. It'll be casual vs hardcore in the end.

Regardless, Final Fantasy XIV is just going to be one of the biggest MMO upgrades in a very long time. No longer does other MMOs reign because of their graphics, FFXIV is going to set a new standard like Aion did with its graphics. Let's just hope FFXIV has that appealing gameplay like Final Fantasy XI did and it will turn into one of the bigger rivals of WoW for sure.

Depends heavily on how FFXI evolves. If it continues how it has been in it's last 7 year history, I'm quitting it for FFXIV. If SE wises up in the next 24 levels and fixes the core flaws in the game, I'll play both.

I give SE until I hit 99 on RDM.

I am 100% with you on this, FFXIV will have a short life if it doesn't have the game play. The top 3 things that I ever did in FFXI were. 1# walking to Juno from Sandy solo @ level 20, I was on edge the whole way. 2# My first choco ride! 3# getting rank 5 and my first airship ride. Its memories like these that I want in FFXIV. I am tired of fighting NM's and waiting for spawns, I want to get back to the basics!

I put so much time into FFXI, the idea of starting over from scratch in XIV is not enticing. Also, I put TOO much time into FFXI, and for the sake of my "family, friends, career" or whatever it says in that opening message, I probably should not play another MMORPG. If I were retired or still in high school or something, I'd be all over that though.

I was away from XI for awhile, and all my friends have surpassed me in most avenues of the existing content. So hopefully I'll get to enjoy the new content as I'll never do stuff like Limbus/Salvage/Nyzul Isle; a majority of that gear will be outclassed by 99 anyway, its still up in the air. I will install 14 though, play the trial.

Once it actually comes out, I will give XIV a try for a month(While still playing XI).

If I really enjoy it after that time, XI is over for me, and I will stick with XIV. If I don't, XIV will be over, and...
Actually I'd probably be done with XI either way.

Though I really have nothing to do day to day, I don't have time for two time consuming MMO's. So in the end it will be one, the other, or neither.

Try fitting a relationship with a non-gamer girl/guy in there and let me know if it's still "very possible" ahah. I used to date a gamer girl and I could play games whenever I wanted without feeling like I was ignoring her, she would play her own MMO too, but now I'm with someone else who doesn't play a lot of video games and I'd rather spend time with her and make sure I pay attention to her, I miss my gaming time a lot though heh, but I still get a chance to log in once in a while. I don't have enough free time to play a new/another MMO, it would be a waste of money.

I'm with the majority of people here, I've invested too much time in FFXI to just start another MMO. My computer wouldn't handle it anyway, and I can't afford a new machine right now. If it is as solo-friendly as WoW I might consider it, but again, I would need a new computer.
I think FFXIV will be a game for those (mostly FF fans I'm guessing) who weren't really playing MMO's and can just pick it up as a first game, or for those who have plenty of time. Knowing me I'll probably read forums and drool over pictures ; ;

For me, some depending factors:

If they're going to keep treating Final Fantasy XI like they are now with (in my opinion) lazy content add-ons and not really expanding on the game, then I'll be leaving for Final Fantasy XIV fully in December after the last add-on here is released.

It also depends on what I think of Final Fantasy XIV (in the beta or the first month of retail, whatever.) So far, I think it's really exciting. And to the people dreading "starting over", you do that in every Final Fantasy game, and this is no different. It's a different game, it will have different memorable characters, and a whole different battle system. I'm treating XIV as a new FF experience just as I have for IV, V, VI, ... IX, X, etc. So I don't really have "starting over" as necessarily a bad thing.

In short, it really depends on how they plan on supporting XI and what I think of XIV, it's too early to judge.

If the planned shift in gameplay from XI to XIV does, as indicated, water down the intensity of what I've loved playing for years now, I'll stick to FFXI. Casual gaming is nice for some, but the reward factor is so much greater in a game like XI. (And ofc, the years and years of time investment are a component for me, too)

That being said, I'll probably give XIV a fair chance. Although last time I gave another MMO a chance, I ended up playing WoW for 6 hours until I couldn't resist the urge to go check to see when the first Faf window was. :D

Just FFXIV, at least until my husband and I decide if we like the gameplay. Considering we both play MMOs, it gets pricey maintaining two accounts on two diffferent games. For us, anyway.

It will be taxing to most ho hum systems today. I'm sure you will be able to turn the graphics down to avoid choppiness and lag, but SE is setting the bar high so that the game isn't lame looking in 4 or 5 years.

Unlike FF11, I probably won't switch to 14 right away, however I'll be watching with interest. In the unlikely event that all of my friends quit FF11, I might consider jumping at launch.

Although I'll have to say, I felt the comment by the developer that they hope we'll play both is somewhat inconsiderate, just thinking about the recent mission run I had which end up taking more then 6-8 hours over the course of a day (because of availability and schedule conflicts, catch ups etc), I can't imaging if I were to play two games with separate schedule to menage with people across different time zones. As if keeping up with one game that have multiple event and social obligations isn't problematic enough at times.

Well, not that I have been keeping up with my in-game social obligation much, but I have to say. <.<;

I'm a completionist and I generally like to play my games to the (comfortable) extent to which they can be played, which I haven't quite done with this one.

Yes. I've since learned a fairly great deal about most of the game and how it works, and friends/acquaintances generally look to me as a source of info on various things when they are unable to or can't be ***** to go find it on the wiki or whatever. I began as a WHM mainly to be able to help folks out, and I've since maxed that out along with a number of other support jobs. I've more or less become what I wanted to be when I started playing, which is a good feeling. I can actually DO some of the stuff I remember seeing the "big boys" doing when I started, yet I understand that there's still room for improvement, and it keeps me going.

There is something to be said for the allure and wonder of a game that's brand new to you, and I was certainly keeping much higher playtime/day figures (not to mention much unhealthier RL habits) during my first few months of playing this game. But I've been a gamer for pretty much as long as I can remember, and I've always found that that "ooh new and shiny!" feeling always passes eventually with every single game I've played, no matter how awesome it is. It's very similar to what parents experience with their spoiled children; no matter how badly they tell you that they want you to buy X silly new toy for them, you just know that if you do, after a few months or so that toy will be discarded to the corner and begin collecting dust. What should be looked at is how well the game keeps you hooked even after that "new and shiny!" feeling goes away.

Im the same, I like to complete everything, get as much as I can. Which is why I will stick around FFXI. FFXI Will be around for a long time, people said thats it once announced that was it. Well SE still has loads of servers.

SE will still keep FFXI on when its probably down to 1 server - they just wont release any new content out for it. How much maintenance will they have to do as a result of no more updates? cut the amount of GM's down. Be fine. At least 5 more years. Enough time for me to do everything maybe? or most things?

As for the fun part, I still have fun, I still kick my self laughing when massive deathga occurs in Campaign. Or a taru dies after RR and dead and RR and dead. ;)

I'll stick with XI on it's own, I really don't like many aspects of the new game and the specs needed to run 14 are way too high anyway. No way I would buy a new pc or console just to play an MMO when I have one I enjoy right now that I have spent a lot of time on.

Only plus I see for 14 atm is it looks nice, like AoC or something. I hate everything else I've read or seen about it.

Yes and no.

Certainly, it was exciting to just be learning the game and experiencing new areas or levels for the first time. However, it was also slow, and I was more restricted. Now I have a larger group of friends that I actually do stuff with, and I can participate in a lot more of the game, and on a number of jobs. It's different.

Part of why I'm not going to play 14 is because I don't want to jump back into another game that's going to eat up time like this one. The other part is, if I were going to, I'm not going to jump back into another SE MMO, due to how FFXI has been handled (or not, as the case may be). FFXI has been fun enough, but as a hobby, MMOs are lacking. Simple as that. I have a lot of other things to spend time on. Right now, because of the time I've put into FFXI, I can get on and participate in things without the pressing need to grind levels/gil/merits/etc first (or too). With the cap increase, that'll change, and if it changes too much, I won't be playing FFXI much longer either =P

I will be moving on to FFXIV when it comes out, and most likely leaving FFXI. I love FFXI, but after playing for over six years now off and on, I just feel like the magic is gone. Activities that I used to look forward to now leave me with a feeling of "been there, done that." Most of the game's zones are barren, and the amount of content I find truly enjoyable is at an all time low. Most importantly, it seems like many of the people I know are quitting the game lately, and nearly every one of them is interested in FFXIV.

I'm hoping FFXIV will capture the same feeling FFXI did when I got it in early 2004, only better. This time everyone will be starting new, since the game will be simultaneously released across all platforms, and I'll have many friends starting new along with me (which wasn't the case for me when I started FFXI). There will be an entirely new world to explore, new jobs, new missions, everything! The adventurer in me can't wait. For those of you moving on as well, I hope to see you on there.

I'll probably switch when its first released, but jump back into XI to do story based content.

I miss the freshness of the game, and wiping for dumb reasons when no ones knows what they're were doing, when 2k/hr was "awesome" xp in the dunes. I might get 10k/hr. now but its boring and feels like a job.
