Son wants to playFollow

ok, so here is the scenerio. My son wants to start to play FFXI, I have it installed on my upstairs and downstairs computers. We want to be able to play at the same time but I know we can't play under my account at the same time.

Is there a way to get account registration without having to actually go buy the game, I mean I don't mind paying but seems like a waste to buy all that stuff just for registration info so he can play.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

I looked at downlaoding off of steam but it seems it downloads everything and wipes what I would already have on my computer, would hate to do that. thanks in advance.

Just cancel the download in steam as soon as it starts, and you can get the reg codes.

Thanks for the help. I actually found a buddy pass from when I bought it for computer when I switched from xbox. So he is playing as we speak, and I get 30 days for free to see if he likes it. He quit WOW about 6 months ago because it kind of bored him. He is looking forward to us playing together, and will be nice to play with him and have a duo partner.

LOL, thanks for the compliment. My son is 15 and is an avid gamer like myself. My rules have always been as long as he has A's and B's then I don't restrict to much he can do (within reason of course).

I do have another question though. I am in Sales and I won a contest so I get to win some electronics. Well I was going to go with the Ipad just to read before going to bed but now that my son is playing I was thinking of getting a laptop to run FFXI while my son is playing in our media room. Figured it would be kind of hard to play with me downstairs on my computer and him upstairs in the media rooom.

Unfortunatley I am limited to a specific laptop and I was wondering if this would run FFXI aceptable enough to do endgame stuff?

Yeah it should run it fine, as long as FFXI likes the graphics card.

Could always go with the Ipad and use a third party voice communication program, like skype, ventrilo, heck even windows based meeting room (w/e it is called) could work. Then you get your ebook, and you can communicate easier than typing, and more personally too.

Or if you have a newer TV you can always get a component device to attach your computer to your media room television (which I assume would be there being a media room). Laptops imo are limited in function due to the irritation involved in upgrading them. But I guess if it is free you don't really lose.

Funny thing is I have a pretty badass desktop upstairs hooked up to my projector in the media room, so my son is starting to play on 120 inch screen. I just thought it would be cooler if we played next to each other in the same room. That gaming rig was bought purely for FFXIV beleive it or not, once I walked away from that horrid experience it re-lite the candle for FFXI. My wife may even start playing again.

Nice to know the laptop will work, that would make 3 computers in the house, one of which is a pure gaming rig. So I am not so concerned about the upgradeability of the laptop. It's only function would be to play FFXI with my son. And you are right, since it is free I might as well right?

Yep and if your wife does play again then that makes it a very good idea, beats having to buy another system down the line. Also I am jealous of the projector, best I had was a 56" T.V. which was still pretty awesome. Lounging in the lazy boy with a PS3 controller was awesome. I haven't played since the PS3 keyboard was released (it plugs in the USB on top of the controller and has a USB out to connect to computer/ps3) I don't know if drivers are out for it yet or not but I know it ca be paired via blue tooth. Now that + 120" + Lazy boy = comfort.

Yeah, projector was a dream of mine when we built the house. I gave the wife complete control except for the third story, that was mine. It is a true 1080 high def,not much difference on FFXI but man it sure did look sweet for FFXIV.

I just use the xbox controller for the computer and just have the keyboard and mouse run via USB extension to the coffee table in front of the couch. Not the best setup but it works.

This makes me think it wont accept DirectX games...

I've had very bad luck with Intel integrated graphics chipsets, they tend to not include 3D support.

I dunno I used a dell Inspiron 1501 for several years, it had intergrated graphics and much less power than this machine. It ran FFXI just fine.

Adopt me. You're way more awesome than my dad.

Edit: Just a warning: I'm 32, so the legal proceedings might be a bit awkward.

Damn, now I am worried a bit. I would hate to buy/get a laptop for the sole purpose of video games and it not run it correctly. I don't think BestBuy (where we would be getting it from) would let me bring it back for store credit either.

Should I be worried over intergrated graphics? I am a gaming nerd I admit but know little to nothing about computers and such.

You could always get the laptop for yourself, and play in your media room with him.

Not to highjack, but I play with my 11 year old son and let me tell you...it pisses my wife off so bad when we sit at the kitchen table for dinner and start talking about getting him his Chocobo license or unlocking BST so we can duo in the 30's, deep in Gusgen Mines off of Feu Follets. It makes me smile to see her look at us with her patented blank stare.

Yeah, the plan is to get the laptop as long as it runs the game fine and play with him in the media room.

My family is kind of a FFXI family. My wife used to play so she doesn't mind us talking about it. I was actually telling her about the new zones and how we can low man a lot of stuff and she really liked the idea. With having kids like we do we just couldn't have the playtime in the "old way" of FFXI to really enjoy it.

The linkshells aren't freindly anymore. If anyone is new and has questions, they get shunned by sheer silence. And when its time to do a mission, why? Just level up and do them yourself. CLASSIC answers ive been getting now.

Playing this game has become an embarassment to how it was INTENDED to be, it its originality. You might think those armor peices from older missions SUCK now compared with the almighty ***** armor everybody wants to get because it's SO POWERFUL once its fully upgraded.

Yeah. F*CK that. I am glad I don't play anymore.

Weird experience on your part I guess. My LS is great, most of the time we are all just logged in waiting for someone to shout in Jueno or see if anyone in LS needs help with anything.

I mean hell, just the other day we helped some poor soul who needed the limit break for 50.

If you are having such a bad experience have you ever thought that maybe YOU are the ONLY common demoninator in all those experiences? Just sayin'
