The hat is under Optional Services -> Redeem Bonus Code.

Anyone know where I'm supposed to put in the serial code for the hat? I just put in the serial code to all the expansions but can't seem to find a place for the hat code. :(

On the screen with the "Play" button there's an Optional Services button near the bottom. Click that and then Reward Code Registration.

For me it was "Reward Registration Code" in the POL Viewer; might be a regional quirk.

Edit: Abyssea took about 20-30 minutes to kick in after purchase; I got the Destroyer Beret right away.

Edit #2: I was also able to get a Prishe Statue in the Treasure Coffer by Joachim in Port Jeuno. Wasn't expecting that...

Does the Abyssea has a seperate install?
Because after downloading the package, I only can install FFXI and the other packs, but I can't find Abyssea :S

Abyssea is downloaded when you update the game.

All Final Fantasy XI Updates As Of 05/09/2011: Bluegartr Link [Safe].

If you're really good with following directions and are computer savvy, here's a link to all the updates that you can download and then install yourself instead of going through POL. In the end it's your choice, but I've been using it ever since the guy started the post.

Just bought the collection myself today but couldn't find my ultimate 2010 install disc so unfortunately I have to download the game from steam, on a 1mb/s connection it's taking about 2 hours or less. Updates I'm sure would be longer if I don't use the above mentioned link. See you in Vanadiel!

There are links to the NA download on the official site now, and the EU website has had an update -- but with no download links!

Edit: Just in case there are still people looking for a download for the EU version, I finally managed to get my download and codes from Games Planet UK: http://uk.gamesplanet.com/shop/ffxi/. Everything works perfectly. Good luck!

I'm a wanna-be multi-boxer just getting back into the game- Direct2Drive is giving me "FINAL FANTASY XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition was removed from your cart due to : Previously purchased." Of course I need multiple purchases/downloads in order to get multiple serial keys.

I've open a ticket with their support, but no answer yet. Anyone else gotten this issue/resolved it?

Well that was frustrating!

I was happy downloading the 4.3GB of game from UK Gameplanet, but extremely frustrated that I had to download an update for Playonline, and 20,000 files for FFXI. I left it on at 11pm last night, and woke up at 7am this morning to find it 99% done.

The whole point of this download was that you were getting the whole package, why couldnt they have uploaded a more upto date version?

Anyway barring that, at least I am back! Looking forward to re-living all the old content on Bismark server!

You mean we have to deal with third-parties, we can't buy off SE itself? :( I have no idea who gameplanet are, and find their saying

"Ultra-fast download
Secure Payment
100% Legal"

Kind of concerning, like why would they feel the need to say that, something that RMT often say to entice you to deal with them.

I have wondered about that too because I wanted to go ahead and get all the addons for my other two accounts. I did my main account using Steam. So I guess I could do the next with D2D and the third with Amazon. Seems pretty silly but I guess that might work.

Thank you for contacting us and I'm sorry for any delay in our response.

Unfortunately, our system does not allow for purchasing duplicate copies of a game on a single account.

In order to purchase a second copy of FINAL FANTASY XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition you will need to create a new account for yourself with a seperate email address and complete your purchase again. If you need assistance with this, please let me know.

If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

I figured this would be the case, I do wonder what will happen if I need to re-download the files in the future, but I figure I can always redownload the files I purchased on my main/actual email, then keep careful records of the three separate Serial Keys, Buddy Pass Codes and Bonus Item Codes.

A number of people have that problem. You can buy the PC version and use the codes to upgrade on the 360. If your FFXI is already current then there is nothing additional to download.

I bought the game from that website, but the code I received is no good. I was able to get my hat from the bonus code at least. I tried going to expanded services to register My code but I keep getting that Invalid error. Waiting to see if I can get some help on it from them but no response yet from there website. I re-activated my acct last month, had only up to WotG, none of the expansions. So I was glad to buy the Abyssea package from Steam.
I've had nothing but problems with it. I got into POL, downloaded all the updates, then got hit with a POL-5312 error.

Had to delete it all, then follow Steam's instructions to delete the "ffxi" directory which was apparently not uninstalled correctly.

Re-installed it all, then couldn't get into PoL since my password didn't work. Called SE and got a new password - which doesn't work either. So I have to call them again, which I don't have the time for, am thinking there's an issue with the authenticator now. I haven't gotten as far as downloading all the updates this time around, and I know..know I'm going to get hit with the POL-5312 again.

When... when will SE get rid of this immensely archaic thing known as POL, and streamline the log-in for FFXI?
Apologies. /rant off

My question has been vaguely answered in this thread but not clearly enough for me to continue without asking myself.

My current account is the 09 Ultimate Collection, if i bought this i could use the code to upgrade my account as well as get the hat on my current character correct?

Also will i have to uninstall > reinstall the game or should i just be able to use the codes, update, and be good to go?

Thanks!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. That's what I get for trying to save ten bucks. I emailed them on Friday and finally got a response today. They asked me for screenshots of me entering the code and of the error message, which I just sent to them. I paid by Paypal, and have already initiated a dispute claim. It'll be a pain in the *** for me, but I'll either get a working code out of them or my money back. The hat code did work, so if I get a refund I can buy the collection from a site that actually has working activation codes and get a second hat code out of the deal.

Basically, because of Gametap's incompetence, I'll either get the collection for ten dollars (eventually) or I get a free hat code. Still, I won't be doing business with them again.

If you play on the pc, you already have the files for abyssea on your computer. All you gotta do is buy the Collection, register the code under expanded services, and when you log in you should be able to access abyssea right away.

Yeah Gametap told me the same thing and I contacted SE and they told me the code is for Europe. >:(

So I'm gonna either have Gametap give me my money back or somehow give me a NA code.

I'm sure SE could get rid of POL if the PS2 wasn't tethered to it. I guess at this time in FFXI's lifespan, you have to go though a lot if you want to play. I don't see this as a good thing considering SE doesn't need to lose any more customers right now.

I just wanted to let everyone who bought the game from Gametap's shop know that the game codes DO work. There problem isn't with faulty game codes...its with version (Assuming you are all from the US like me). The FF XI Ultimate Collection Abyssea Edition I purchased from Gametap is a European version, not a US one. That is why the first code will not work but the hat code will. Because from what I have read you cannot mix versions of the game. You either have to have all the EU games installed or US. They cannot mix.

This is basically my experience with Gametap so far...
I am new to FFXI and have never played the game, I always wanted to and saw that this edition came out so I thought I would try. I bought the game from Gametap and downloaded the game overnight while I slept. When I woke up in the morning the problems began. I download the POL viewer from the FFXI US site for Windows 7 and installed and updated it. Problem occurred when I went to install FFXI it said the viewer was not installed and aborted the installation. Weird. So I uninstalled the viewer I got from the site and just installed the viewer from the game download and updated it. Then I installed FFXI with no problem!

Here's where the fun part starts. I started the POL viewer and went to register a new membership..put in my key and it worked. Then it asked me what country I lived in. I clicked the dropbox and the first country was the UK, france and germany following after. Weird...so I scrolled down the list. It had all European countries and US was not on the list. I canceled the setup and looked in my C drive. Under Playonline and FFXI they have EU folders in them. Best thing is if you go to Gametap's site and go to "My Games" tab and look at FFXI Abyssea Edition you purchased...it says to go to the Square-Enix's European site for support...? So I believe our problem is we got the wrong version...not that it doesn't work at all.

I've contacted them and they asked me why I believed I had the EU version and explained to them everything I have explained here. My fiance pointed out today that Gametap has made the game unavailable to purchase and it says its "coming soon". I'm sure that is due to all the problems we have been experiencing. Sorry this is such a long post and I hope it helps shed some light on the situation.

Yeah, I sent a message to Gametap and they told me to contact SE, then SE confirmed that the code worked but was for the European version. Gametap knows that this is a problem, check out this forum. http://www.gametap.com/forum/ffxi-reg-code-is-wrong-region-t39038.html

This whole regional thing is crass, seeing as how it's SE just with a different hat on, not like they subcontracted it out like, say, Turbine did with LoTRO. Seems to me it's irrelevant to SE where you live, so there's no point whatsoever in differentiating between various regions.

I've also found out it was the EU version. Sent an email to them and replied to that thread that was posted. Hopefully the number of complaints about it will make them react faster. Never bought anything from them before, and surely this will be the last.

So does that mean that the code is for the US version but you ended up with EU version of the client/game or are they both (the code and the software) for the EU version?

Never mind. I see where they said they talked to SE and they confirmed it was an EU code too.

Or will I get problems when registering my dutch creditcard?

If you're creating a brand new PlayOnline and FFXI account, you'll be able to do everything fine. You'd just need to make sure you keep getting the same region's expansions later on, so for Amazon, NA, and for Steam UK, EU.

BUT, if you've got an existing FFXI account that you want to add this pack on to, you'll have to make sure it's the same region. So if you already have a copy of FFXI from the local store, you'll probably have the EU version, and as a result will have to download from Steam UK.

I'm considering coming back as well after more than 3 years hiatus. So is this edition only available for digital download only ?

It looks like Direct2Drive (and some other) block the IP from Indonesia. I was in Canada when started playing XI, now that means I have to get the US version, right?
Anyone reside in Asia Pacific (other than Japan), have a work around for this?

I saw the download from Amazon from the other day too, but I haven't tried to register there and download it
.What I worried about is: do they support download resume?

Yes, this edition is only available for digital download. You can still buy the older collections in stores, but it won't have the codes for the three Abyssea collections, so you'll have to pay an extra $30 to get them.

And yes, Canada sells and uses the US version of FFXI. But I don't know about the IP blocking situation, sorry! I've also never downloaded anything from Amazon, but if it's like a normal download, I used to use 'Download Accelerator Plus' when I was worried about resuming downloads.

So here are my questions. I quit close to a year ago, and I've been thinking about coming back. Saw this edition just came out and it got me thinking even more, since I never got Abyssea.
So what I'm wondering is.. I have no idea where any of my old discs went. Does this download include POL as well, or am I going to hunt around for that?
Also, is there a limit to how many times I am allowed to download this? Was looking into getting laptop so husband can noodle around during the day while he's at work, while I would be playing primarily on the home computer. That and if something ever happened, I'd like to know I can go to wherever I buy it from and re-download.. Thinking Amazon best bet, since I don't know piddly squat about Steam.

Thank you very much!

Well, it took long enough, but I got my money back. I most definitely will not be doing business with Gametap ever again. I could forgive the mistake, but taking almost a month to fix it is BS. I did use the hat code though, so I suppose I got a free Detrier Beret out of this mess.

I dunno about with Amazon but the gamestop online one (not abyssea edition but last vanacollection) I bought came with 3 licenses, so you could put on that many computers.

The abyssea collection is the WHOLE GAME so you don't need any of your discs.

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.
