BST Maat fight 0-5Follow

#1 May 26 2011 at 5:27 PM Rating: Decent
I Have bought the gear and stuff the forums here and wiki say to buy. I follow the guides and the youtube video's but I can't beat Maat with my Hume 66 BST. (stats maxed eva,axe skill)

Question is: People in LS said wait till 70. Is the fight easier at 70 BST?

On a side note. I played for years starting NA release and on Maat fight I went 0-20 with 70 Tarutaru RDM and 0-5 70 BM. (Stats maxed) That lead me to quit and play WOW till last month when I decided to give it another shot.

Update: Got level 67 and went back in used same equipment and did the same thing I did every other time I fought him Opened with opo opo->>sleep x4, blink band, food, called beast but this time I did not remember to use familar. Ran in used rampage on Maat's pet (a tiger) killed pet, then used reward---> used a wing then rampage on Maat. He gave up.

I used same method every time the only difference in this fight then the 5 before it was that I was level 67 and I did not use Familar for the fight I beat him

Yes.

Your first Maat fight is always the hardest. Are you bringing things like x-pots and stuff?
Most level 66 strategies I've seen are often dependent on costly meds. You're also gonna have access to better gear at level 70 (although your mileage may vary, I'm not very familiar with BST gear)

There's several strategies you could use on the wiki:

Yes.

You doing the sleep TP thing to before you start the fight? Starting off with a nice WS is always good.

Yeah I failed at 66 too. I am at 68 now, and half-way through it - so I am going to try to solo the mobs that drop the testimony (haven't tried yet, hoping it is feasible) - in the hope that I get to 69 by the time I get one. Then I will try again.

I've also picked up dawn mulsim for the battle in addition to some other meds. I don't think I have the money for the sleep necklace thingy though >.>

Is it doable without the necklace and sleep pot?

I did the blu and the bst fight at 70 without using the sleep for tp method at all.

OP, what jug are you using? I think getting lifedrinker lars is the way to go for the maat fight. Never hurts to pick up a vile elixer while you're at it.

I did it at 66 or 67, didn't pop food, didn't sleep tp.
Just popped Lifedrinker Lars 2hr'd and went directly for Maat, sending the pet first.
I expected to die and only went in for fun, but I won in about 2 minutes total, with both me and pet alive.

I would just wait until your 70 to save you the trouble and cost.

I was able to beat it at 70 with no problems and even messed up by not letting timer go down on jug pet and was still able to kill him with 300hp to spare.

I used Panzer Galahad I believe.

Done this fight twice on different characters, both at 70 using the funguar (don't think Lars existed then), second time I used a self-made HQ Diremite (no Lars on the AH and couldn't be bothered farming the mats needs to make one).

Not sure what pets Maat can summon, first time round he popped a bunny which was 'cake' as they say, second time he popped a fly which was a bit more of a problem.

IMO opening with a sleep/build TP makes a lot of difference, taking a chunk of Maat's HP off while still on your first pet is a big help. Also, these days, Snarl is a Big Deal (didn't have it on my first fight).

Neither was 'hard' but without Snarl the second one could have been a tad 'iffy', I can though see how doing it at 66 is challenging due to the penalty to 'hit' etc. the +4 level difference will give.

When fighting Maat, no matter what the job, the key is usually kill as quickly as you can. Maat fights reward the aggressive player, not the cautious one.
I liked using lars because I could get rid of the pet pretty quickly, and the AoE tp move was good for hitting both of them. You might have a chance for 1 reward, but thats it.
If you start sleeping up tp, you can take out the first pet right away. After that, kill maat as quickly as you can. If you kill the 1st pet right away, don't bother w/ the 2nd pet at all. Just kill Maat. bringing a wing for another quick WS helps alot also. Also being level 70 helps quite a bit.

Took me 6 attempts sometimes for choosing the wrong action at the wrong time, ans often just dumb luck.

I wanna sound helpful. I really do, but..

Maybe at some point you just have to realize you're really, really bad at video games. Or at exaggerating. One of the two.

On another note:

Why do I keep hearing (in game and out) about new characters trying to cheapo the maat fight because they can't afford meds?

How do you get to level 70 without even 50k in the bank for a necklace and iwing, 30k of which you get back when you sell the necklace? That's some monumental mismanagement of money, there, topped with a complete lack of desire to go obtain said money when necessary.

Don't throw yourself against a brick wall over and over; obtain a little gil, buy your meds, and win 1/1. I've done it on three characters and never lost once, because I go in prepared.

I thought an iwing and hp food might be a waste for my BLU fight, and then won with 50 hp left (within the bonus the food gave me, and only because I had the wing to dump more tp). Would've been easier, but fate decided to make an entire spell miss. That's why you prepare; 'stuff' happens.

tl;dr: Suck it up, pay for good meds, and you won't need to get so lucky. It'll take either terrible strategy or a painful twist of luck (like say, missing entire weaponskills) to ***** you if you go in prepared. Honestly, all you really need is probably sleep pots/opo necklace, an iwing, your usual pet food/mulsum, and then maybe a few hi-pot+3's or something to spam on yourself. Hate should, generally, be on the pet afterall, no?

I didn't fight Maat on my BST my first time so I can't comment on a lower cap. My first was against RDM Maat and nothing more needs to be said about that tough fight. Anyways at lv75 I fought Maat with a Lars pets and 2hred. I slept to 100% TP with a wing and proceeded to engage Maat. I used one Rampage, popped wing bam used Primal Rend, and he was defeated. I suspect 2 Rampages would of finished him of just as easy. No meds unless you count the Icarus wing. No pet food, no Hi-pots, but I did eat a courel sub food for ATK. The fight lasted 2min only because it took a minute or so to sleep the TP for my first WS. This was an easy fight, but you have to gear for it. I hope you're wearing all DD gear so you can do as much damage as possible. Use snarl if you take hate.

Oh, one last thing. Sic your pet on Maat and let the pet establish hate before you engage. This is so you don't have Maat and his pet on you. You want them on your pet instead. I hope this helps.

Also, what someone above just said: go in prepared and don't half *** it. Buy a good pet jug, don't bring CC. Farm some gil, buy the opo-opo necklace, you can sell it back later. Don't forget to pick up a vile and vile+1 elixirs. With the exception of a few fights (RDM, SCH), Maat should not be difficult if you actually put forth the effort.

Ok, here is another strategy that I just thought about that should work. The key to this plan is the proper use of Snarl.

Enter the fight and pop a jug and 2hr. Sit there and wait until the jug recast is 1min. Equip a pet food in your ammo slot. Use "Fight" to engage Maat and his pet. Use snarl anytime you have too much hate, but watch out for the 30sec recast. Make sure your pet doesn't die before Snarl is up and use pet food as needed. Also you want to hold off on your damage if you think you'll take hate prior to your pet dying. Once you know the pet is about to die, back off and wait in range of Maat using charm. This should Bind him for a second so only his pet should be hitting you. Make sure your pet hits both Maat and his pet and then use snarl real quick. You should have TP ready you saved which you should now use on Maat. This strategy while not the best(check my above post for the quick easy method) should work for anyone 100% of the time.

Remember use Charm(bind) on Maat and summon a new pet to attack his pet first. You don't want Maat to Asuran fists you. The bind effect will be brief so you have to be fast. Don't use your normal charm macro if it has a light staff as you want TP for the kill. CHR will help slightly with the proc of Bind. Also remember that you can't bind Maat if you have a jug out. This is normally common sense, but people that lose to Maat often forget the basics. I hope this helps.

Still sorta applies. I would call gearing for and Reposing him more aggressive than going defensive and curing yourself, and is the much more consistent strategy (though because you can hybridize/blend into the latter to fine effect).

Invest in some dawn mulsum (under medicine), petfood zetas, and use a good jug like Lifedrinker Lars, or Chop-suey Chucky--I used Panzer Galahad because those other two were kinda rare when I did it. Dawn mulsum is amazing stuff. It's like reward, but without the timer. It's not too expensive either, and can be made for next to nothing if you have cooking to around 93 (earlier if you have your GP items) or so. The only bad thing is they don't stack.

I just did BST maat for the first time ever as a 70BST taru for my lb5, and it was almost a joke.

A few things are very key :

1) When you enter, call a quality jug like Chopsey Chuck or Lifedrinker lars (i went with lars), then either i wing or sleep pot to 100 tp. Eat a kabob, and let your call beast timer tick down.

2)Come with some pet food epsilon (zeta is 72 now, so no go there) and 1-2 dawn mulsums. These things are life savers. They are mini rewards without recast timers. LDL straight tanked maat and both pets he called (after the first died, he summoned another) with no problems at all.

3) When your call beast timer is low, Fight pet on maat- > get behind him and his pet -> rampage maat -> snarl the wait for after rampage animation if you wanna macro it is /wait 4 form rampage to snarl. You may get hit once, but this is the only time both of them wont be GLUED to your pet.

$) use rewards and mulsums at about half health to keep your pet in winning condition.
