POL Content ID helpFollow

I recently bought the game off steam. I am unable to link my playonline ID to my Square ID yet because they aren't letting people that did things in July do that quite yet. My problem is I get all the way into the POL and click play on FFXI. I need to obtain a content ID. The problem is when I try to do that it says something along the lines of "Unable to perfom this action through the playonline viewer please log into your square enix management and select service and follow the instructions." Reciting from memory so that may be a litle off.

No idea what I am suppose to do. Google is no help. Can I buy a content ID through he management tool? This is really frustrating and counter-intuative if they want people to pay for their games.

Thanks for any help/advice. Also I have no idea if its ok to pose this question in this forum.

Well the SE account site is:

http://account.square-enix.com/

Try mucking around in there, I'm looking now also to see if I see it.

Oh trust me I've been through every single thing. I have a feeling since I can't transfer my playonline ID to my square account yet they won't let me purchase content IDs through the site. So I'm in a dead zone. Can't create one through POL and can't create one through the site. I'm really getting mad at this whole thing and about ready to give up.

Can anyone who hasn't transferred their POL Id yet confirm if they can or can not add/reactivate/cancel content IDs through POL? Or if it directs them to the square site?

You have to buy the content id's (I think it's called something different now) from your SE account by logging in on the site. Look under services and options. I was able to register, pay and play yesterday. It's confusing if you're used to the old system, but all I can say is, see Playonline as the launcher of the game. Everything else, you have to do on your SE account through a internet browser.

I still haven't figured out how to register my item code though.

edit- I'm an idiot. I eventually found it. Why they bury it so far down is beyond me. You click on add options and select payment type. then its right there.

Depending on where you live, you can go the crysta route.

You can either set up through click and buy or crysta. But you have to click on Final Fantasy 11, then about half way down you click on "add options". Then you choose your method of payment. Then buy a character. This will register a content ID.

I am returning after playing back when I think the second expansion was just coming out. I had the content ID problem too.

Step by step:

Log into Square Enix account

> Services & Options (bottom left menu)
> Select Service
> Select FFXI
> Select "Options List" under "Active Service Accounts" (first option on the page)
>Select "Add New Options" nest to "Character" (again, first option on page)
>Purchase your desired number of characters.

Now you must log into PlayOnline. Get to the screen where you have the menu options on the left of Final Fantasy XI,
Navigator, Extras, Service & Support, etc... Choose "Navigator" and then choose "Handles" in the menu that pops up.

>Choose your handle, and you will see a menu pop up on the right hand side. Near the bottom will be "Content ID List"
>Choose "Link" and Link your Content ID(s) to your desired Handle.

Save, Log all the way out, Log back in and it should work. I did this last night.

Xanima, thanks a ton for the walkthrough. Recently came back to FFXI, and their setup process has gone from convoluted to absolute insanity. I mean, so time-consuming and un-intuitive all I can do is laugh.

This is driving me crazy. I can't find the page where "Navigator" is listed. I'm about to cancel everything and call this a big-ass $40 mistake. It's ridiculous.

I've read throught this post and I have a simliar problem, but I can't find an answer to it.
I purchased the game through steam. Where my problem starts:
Open Steam. Select FFXI. Click "play".
The Play Online Viewer pops up, and it says "please add new member"
I add a member.
I go to "log in" using the ID and password i chose.
A prompt appears saying "incorrect id/password."

Ok, so under the "join playonline" tab, it says that by clciking it, i cna obtain an ID. I'm guessing this is what I have to do?
Please please please, I need step by step instructions on how to do all of this. I'm so confused. I have a square enix account, but idk what to do from here.

You buy the game on steam, then you need a content I.D. to create a character (12.99$/month) ...
