Where have all the parties gone?Follow

So I’ve recently started up the game again after a lengthy hiatus and I’ve noticed that the party system has changed. I found that flagging up just doesn’t seem to work anymore. Someone in my shell told me people only do Grounds of Valor pages in places like Gusgen. I asked how you get into those parties and he said just ask the leader. But now I’m in the low 40s and starting to wonder if I should move on from Gusgen. I hear Crawler’s Nest is a good option but I don’t see many parties in there on my server. So I’m wondering what other options are out there for partying and is it polite to ask leaders if they have a spot for another player?

One more question: when you get to Abyssea level range, do you do the same? Ask leaders if they have a spot open? Is that the new normal? I do see a lot of shouts for AFK leech parties where they expect you to pay half a million or a million gil to tag along but that doesn’t sound like much fun.

Anyway, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Flagging up actually works better at upper levels. Anything 75+ has a shot of getting asked to join an exp or cruor party as a replacement, because the only time anyone wants to go to Jeuno to shout is when they're cashing in merits, and that's not always when there is a slot open in the party.

Crawler's Nest is probably the next place to look, or Garliage Citadel.

It is totally acceptable to flag up next to an alliance, pick out the alliance leader or at least a party leader, and ask them politely if there is a spot open or to let you know when one opens up. Odds are good that if they have space, they'll invite you right away. GoV means the more people you have in the group, the faster everyone gets exp.

Not sure what server you are on, Bug, but over on Carbuncle there also is a real lack of Crawler's Nest GoV parties going on. In fact it has been that way for perhaps 1 to 1 1/2 months at this point.

Personally, I think there is only really two explanations for it.

1) In the worst case scenario, there is simply not enough people left in the game on some servers that are still leveling lower level jobs.

2) In the "still sucks if you don't know anyone" scenario, everyone is getting to the 30s or 40s in Gusgen, then instead of going to CN, using connections via friends or linkshells to get in to Abyssea parties. Either as key users to open chests, or just as leechers.

In any event, you may want to try and look in Bostaunieux Oubliette, the sewers under San d'Oria. There is usually more luck finding GoV pages killing leeches down there, though you should usually be in your mid-50s to uppers to be useful or able to even hit them.

As for Abyssea, those groups are still going strong. Ignore the people shouting around to try and make you pay out the nose for XP. Once you're in the 75-80 region of levels you'll get invites if you just keep patient, keep your flag up, and hang out. People are also still making normal, non-gil sold parties in Abyssea, so watch out for those shouts.

One thing worth noting (and I've totally tried this so it works) is people WILL join a shout a party for GoV. One day when there was 3+ people waiting on spots in the nest alliance and my LS mate wanted to level, I shouted up 10 people in PJ and we went to garlaige citidel. It was a little less awesome than nest exp with a full alliance but we started drawing more people (we got up to like 14 at one point) and the exp was still pretty darn good (especially once people leveled up a bit)

The one thing I would advise any alliance leader for GoV is to really make sure your party leaders are not oversyncing. The exp comes from pages, so the faster you do pages, the better. Waiting on respawns is better than taking too long to kill stuff (respawns give mages a chance to rest up MP anyway - and are an ideal time for people to duck out to the bathroom/get a beer/whatever)

Unfortunately some people don't understand this principle and they will (say) sync people in the nest down to 35 or something equally stupid. Don't do that, and try to ensure your party leaders don't do that. Obviously if there is one 60 in a group and everyone else is 35 or lower you don't have any choice, but if you can sync closer to 50 it is way better.

(I actually had one leader - when I complained that he synced us to 35 - say he was syncing down that low because he "wanted to get skill ups" - I facepalmed and then carefully explained to him that you can't get skill ups past the level you are synced to)

Oh, cool. I was worried about what it was going to be like when (or if) I reached the upper levels. I do see a lot of people in the Abyssea zones so that's a good sign. If I have to, I'll just solo or join Gusgen parties or *GASP* make my own Nest parties to get some levels in.

At least I know I'm not pissing people off by asking them politely if they have any room for a newbie/returning player.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of that song upon seeing the thread title.
