I'm not sure how the new command /displayhead does anything except aesthetic reasons, or am I missing something...?

That's exactly what it's for...

Thing is, since nobody wears either Optical Hat or Walahra Turban anymore, I'm not sure how often this will actually get used.

I was thinking that since I wear Oce. Headpiece for two of my jobs out of the three that I play, I would use this command. The headpiece isn't exactly aestheticly appealing.

This.

I use it on BLU, COR, NIN, THF, and PUP, and I hate it.

Well it's worse than that now. The high NPC price kept the price up and stable. You could make 12 stacks or so, put 7 on the AH for 8-9k, and just NPC the rest for 4800 and still be profiting without eating up all your inventory selling a consumable. Now I'm sure they've dumped the price to nothing, so that 'NPC the excess stock' appeal is going to go away and they won't be worth making except to put on the AH... which then the price will crash without the base NPC price backing it.

tl;dr this just screws Alchemy crafters even harder on a 'need some spare change' synth, and screws everyone out of a useful item when it's no longer worthwhile to craft (8-12 synths in a row for 2k gil? Pass.).

Can we please have this to lock our visual gear so we don't blink causing a lost target? If this command has the ability to effect what others see then I don't see why it would not be possible.

There are pieces prior to and after the introduction of these two headgear items that are far uglier. There are also pieces that are far better looking, like Ogiers.

Because of the POL maintenance (which they almost failed to mention) and no pushing of the XI update, we don't have .dat mines to inspect yet. Still, it is indeed more interesting than what sort of shoddy side-grades to trashcan pieces we'll be getting from Neo-Ein*tab* and Neo-Limbus.

It's really hard to top Neo-Nyzul pieces, but they've shown their hand on how exclusive they want such pieces to be. Equivalent pieces from these new events are either unlikely or going to have such forbidding drop rates that nobody will care or bother.

It must be next to the one that says 'No Alchemy recipe between 75 and 95 skill can be profitable or even break even for skilling up'.

Their strange aversion to making Potions and other medicines viable in FFXI has always been a drag on the whole game. It's bad enough they're hardly worth using, but consistently curbing their worth to even make? Just asinine. Holy Waters were probably the last bastion of player-produced utility.

That a 50hp unstackable one-time heal costs 900 gil has always been a farce in any MMO's terms.

Well, probably just because with the current system we've already known about all of the coming updates before the update notes hit.

I find Neo-Limbus quite interesting, and I'm also VERY intrigued by the prospect of being able to outright buy a Coruscanti and avoid being screwed over ad infinitum by the VW loot system. Gonna have to see how the market is on those pulse cells.

That is cool, but since I don't do VW... (I really don't know how to start it). So it looks like I can buy the cells and then get a VW item from that dude? If I read that correctly.

You'd need to have beaten the NM that the item you want is from. I.E., you'd need to have beaten Qilin, to be able to cash in on the 5 cells for a coruscanti, or Voidwrought to cash in on 5 cells for the faz. radiant mail, etc.

Yeah, the 5 cell conversion is pretty bleh, as people just getting 1 is difficult enough. 1:1 would've been ideal, with maybe up to 1:3 tops.

Seems like they made it so that you don't have to already possess the item in order to make it into a ticket (or a "pulse cell", whatever, but I'm still probably going to call them tickets) so there is a chance they might actually be obtained and passed around, slightly.

But yeah, in reality, if someone is spamming Kaggen trying to get their Mekira thing and finally get it after 300 kills or whatever, I really can't see them wanting to do any more Kaggens ever, which would have made the older proposed system mostly pointless.

5 cell conversion is pretty bleh. 5 cell from that gear only conversion is pretty dickish.

SE, it's OK for people to have gear.

Is this the update that adds like 9GB to the install size of FFXI (including PS2 version)? What exactly takes up so much space. I know some features don't make it to the PS2 (like highres updates).

File size for this version update was anywhere between about 90-120 MB in size, but obviously there's speculation that one of the reasons they wanted to expand the size was in relation to some of the surprise announcements in store at VanaFest. I think they wanted to make sure that all PS2 players had that extra space and just had it set that if it detected less than that amount of minimum HDD space, it wouldn't start downloading, not that this update would take up so much room on the HDD that people would want/need that extra space.

Delete/rename 1 file I think, so it forces a file check.

If you guys are interested in the items from the version update, there is a list of them here:

I am personally somewhat disappointed because I mostly care about DNC and we got jack squat this update. Dragoon did pretty well though, I guess!

Eh, I'm fine with the 5:1 ratio. I've seen plenty of people get multiples of this stuff, and there are also plenty of players who don't play the jobs for a drop who would be happy to turn those drops into gil (I play only the "light DD" jobs, so I'm happy to sell mage/heavy DD drops if I got them).

It's actually a pretty clever way to get people to continue to help on VWNMs they already beat. I have a Toci's Harness, so I haven't exactly been excited to go fight Pil more. But now, if I wasn't doing anything and somebody wanted my COR for a Pil run... well, I have a strong incentive to go because if I get another Toci it's going to be good money for me.

They're only lowering the price because of the new trituration recipe. The triturator is pretty cheap. So the only significant cost to making Holy Water is the Light Crystal. And using trituration cuts that cost to one-third.

I'm glad that they're making this change at the same time as introducing the new trituration recipe. It's a sign that they thought about what would happen after adding the recipe, rather than realizing it 6 months later.

That was the whole reason for the change. It had nothing to do with making them easier to get or more common, only it providing an incentive for people who've already got their item to do them more.

Freed about 20 "jobless" inventory slots (that is to say, it'll be fewer slots freed when I'm actually playing a job that uses any of the stuff I stored, since... I wouldn't have it stored if I was playing those jobs, obviously)

Pretty fking happy about that, even though I've come to realize that regained inventory space is usually one of the only major things I have to look forward to with these updates lately >_>

But now that people would want it, the RNG will sense your desire and make certain that you do not get it.

I don't have a Tocis or body from Akvan, or the city tiers. I don't want one. But now that I could profit from it, it will not drop. Tanaka's law.

I was sorta happy to see the hide headgear option now available, because after all these years of wearing various headgear, I had forgotten what my character looked like. I managed to login just now, and turned my headgear off.

I had forgotten how butch the Elvaan female character mods looked.

Eh, Holy Water NPC profit relied heavily on HQing, and while possible to get T3 with skill/items, you were still limited by light crystal supply. Since light weather is non-existent and people don't really fight things like Tonberries if they can avoid it, this only really left elementals in sky as reliable source of crystals. Sure, making clusters stack would exponentially help the process alongside shorter synth cooldowns, but if for some reason sky turned into elemental aery, you'd still be looking at a finite resource through the 5m respawn timer.

But let's be generous and say you average 2 clusters per elemental, water costing 11g, and averaging 2 HW per synth without breaking. You wind up with 48 HW NPCing for 350g apiece for 16800, minus 264 on water for 16,536g. Correlating to another popular NPC item, Chocobo Blinkers, you'd need about 32 at 529g apiece to match. Consider it 2.6 cruor per 1 gil and a good Cruor party ideally making 60+ cruor a kill (At least 23g per kill) and you start having to weigh it against kills over time relative to elementals before even factoring things like cruor chests. If we want to say a good cruor party makes 200k/hr, breaking that down into a 5m increment of 16670c. Upping that to gil, it's 6412g every 5m.

Prior to trituration, at 15s per synth, you'd be able to attempt 20 HW synths in the same 5m. Using the same rough HQ rate as earlier, that'd mean 40 HW, or about 14,000g. Since trituration yields are likely 3:6:9:12, we'd probably be looking at 6 HW per synth with the added benefit of using 1/3 the light crystals. You'd still have to consider triturator costs at 75g per (without heavy guild influence, anyway), but you're probably tripling your gil if you consider a crystal cost as much as an individual HW, if not more. So, that same 5m becomes 42000g, an hour becoming 504k.

Excessive? Maybe a little, but I wouldn't say by much. Alchemy isn't a craft swimming in high ticket, desired items and any real money almost always came through bulk selling. A blacksmith, goldsmith, or bonecrafter can quite easily sit down, do a few synths, and walk away with millions in the same 5m. All they have to do is wait for the AH sale. To that end, I'm of the mind that Alchemy deserves some kind of consistent money outlet. When I stopped playing, I was also at the point where anything I wished to buy basically cost 2m or mil. I was also an alchemist, so I doubt that desire for profit wouldn't surprise many. Unlike cruor farming in an 18 man alliance, where you can multiply that 6412g every 5m to 115146g, more people farming elementals won't magically make more clusters appear. Basically, Alchemy gets throttled off pretty easily while Abyssea boasts multiple camps were you can look at 50+ people at any given time generating a lot of gil per hour if they all opt to blinker.

For any smidgen of economic concern on SE's end, I'd say they nerfed the wrong item.

That's assuming SE was attempting to nerf gil generation out of concern that NPCing items was already being abused. But what if SE was fine with the amount of gil being generated through Chocobo Blinkers and Holy Waters? If they wanted to maintain roughly the same amount of gil being introduced per Holy Water sold to NPCs, then it would make sense to lower the price since Holy Waters just became cheaper to make.

I find it funny that they named the one set "Enif" - it is a star in the constellation pegasus - the name, from "Al Anf" means "the nose" after the nose of the horse. In my opinion the "Murzim" (meaning herald) gear is much better named.

Well, it's not that surprising, since Homam is, among other things, the traditional name of the star Zeta Pegasi, which is also in the Pegasus constellation, whereas Enif is Epsilon Pegasi. It just fits the same name theme that Homam had, though why they chose the Pegasus constellation for its star names is beyond me.

You can't select "Current Area" for it, all that does is revert to the map you are on.

You have to actually scroll down through the list and select the region you're in, then select the area in that region, then select a different map to view.

I'd like to say that everyone should have at least x5 on them incase they ever want to use them...
Just used x1 on Bismarck, resulted in it being killed in 2 minutes 30 seconds.

x2 used on the next one to see how big the difference is and it's huge. More the better but for most stuff x1 is enough. x2 means you could do something like Bismarck without a full alliance.

From what I could tell, Void Clusters do the following;
1. Attack/Accuracy/Magic Accuracy/Magic Attack DOWN - Easy to notice this.
2. HP and/or Defense/Magic Defense DOWN - I'm not sure if it was Bismarck's HP or PdT that was hammered by the cluster but when you take out Bismarck in just under 3 minutes it has to be one of them or both.
3. Inhibit TP - Noticed this as well, even at lower HP Bismarck was hardly using TP moves.

I'm sure there are other effects that people need to look into, people should have some on them just incase you can't find people for a 18/18 alliance.

Oh yeah, Voidwatch groups SHOULD be bringing a Summoner/Beastmaster/Puppetmaster/Thief. Such easy procs if they appear and could buy you some time.
My input anyway.
