So, I watched the little trailer, and my mind is not blown. The "new" lands are just a mix and match of what's already present in the game. The cobblestone pattern is identical to the pattern in San D'oria, the buildings are a mix of ToAU and Bastok design. The Jungle looks exactly like the Jungles of Elshimo, the beach could be any of the beaches already in the game with a couple bits of jungle tossed in the mix. So far, even the "new" job announced is just a mix of abilities/spells from other jobs. All of the diehard fans are pointing at this "expansion" and claiming that the game isn't stagnating, and that the devs still care. All I see is minimal effort to keep people still playing. The best thing about this so far is that at the end of the trailer where they list the gaming platforms that it will be available for, they only list Windows and 360. That could be an oversight, or it could be a subtle hint of things to come.

Zomg, he isn't jumping up on down on SE's collective d*ck, how dare he!!11!!1!!!!11. Go right ahead and blindly rate this down, it's like my karma is going to budge at this point anyway.

I respect your opinion. Everyone's going to have their own take on it. I still see it as being a case of the devs still caring, because they could have easily just left us in the existing lands with new content still involving those same areas, but they're at least giving us something new, even if it is at least a bit familiar. Besides, what we've seen are still very rudimentary zones, and there's still plenty of time to change them around. All we've seen are basic, incomplete zone images so far, so the final products as far as the zones might be a good deal different.

What I took from that trailer is they haven't been working on it very long at all, I would think the bulk of the work will go into it after XIVv2 launches and they will get a lot of the dev teams to work on it full scale.

All I'll say is I hope they give this expansion the respect it deserves and make it good, a shoddy job will do nothing but waste money.

The same day I fall off the wagon and reactivate my characters, I read about this.

Seeing as this is set in the west I wonder if it will bear any relation to the Elvaan homeland of Aldiaine mentioned in Great Figures of the Crystal War.

The elvaan homeland is to the north. It might be a migrated tribe from before the crystal war that fled from Quon to Adiaine.

The seven native warlords could be leaders of the tribes of elvaan in the age of beasts. Galleon, Fauchevelle, Bulletoran, Sand’Oria, Coumlaud, Chatiffe, and (Adiaine?)

獣の時代 ― Age of Beasts
• Approximately 190 C.E. – The Elvaan migrate from the Northern lands to the Quon continent
• Approximately 200 – The Elvaan split into tribes ガレヤンGalleon, ファシュヴェルFauchevelle, ビュルトランBulletoran, Sand’Oria, Coumlaud, and シャティフChatiffe, spreading across the continent of Quon.

• 370 – A Windurst army, led by Lungo-Nango, invades Ronfaure, destroying the Sand’Orian tribe. {The Subjugation of the Elvaan}

Chocobo Riding is Discovered
In the spring of 375, a young boy of the Bulletoran tribe, named ウェルパルドWellpard, discovered that Chocobos could be used as mounts. This discovery quickly led to the appearance of mounted knights in the Elvaan army. This not only gave them more power against the forces of Windurst, but was instrumental in the developed of modern day jobs, like the Paladin and Dark Knight.

Until then, Chocobo were simply livestock used to pull carts and plows, and could be ridden bareback. However, Wellpard’s inventions of reins allowed a whole new degree of control when riding, making this a historic event. (Though uses have diminished somewhat in the present era with the availability of Linkshells).

In addition, he brought about a new riding seat called a “saddle,” which allows people to travel long distances on a Chocobo. Building upon that idea, he also developed a special harness he could attach to himself so he could take TaruTaru guests on sightseeing tours.
• 376 – Lanfeaur is selected to be the head of the Sand’Oria tribe.
• 377 – Lanfeaur leads a unit of young men in an assault on Ronfaure, and occupies the territory.
• 378 – On the orders of Windurst, Galleon and Bulletoran Elvaan invade Ronfaure, but are pushed back by the Sand’Orians.
• 379 – The young Alphollon Tavnazia, of the Bulletoran tribe, joins forces with D’Oraguille.
• 380 – The Sand’Orians are victorious over the Bulletoran and Fauchevelle tribes, and take control of Zulkheim.
• 381 – Lanfeaur meets with the Quadav King

The Meeting of Lanfeaur and the Quadav King
Lanfeaur travelled alone to Beadeaux for an audience with the Quadav King, Du’Dha the Everyoung. He went to propose an alliance between to the two nations, but whatever he promised as collateral has been lost in the pages of history. He shared a glass of “Mudwine,” a favorite drink of the Quadav that while disgusting for humans, he managed to down with a smile. This act quickly gained him the favor of the king.
The next year, Windurst’s conquest army began invading the continent of Quon. The Quadav King upheld his promise and engaged the Windurstian forces, ultimately repelling them.
• 382 – Windurst leads a second offensive against the Elvaan, striking from Norvallen. Lanfeaur works with the Quadav and they ambush the Windurst army in Jugner Forest and Passhow Marshlands, driving them back.
• 383 – Alphollon meets with the mountain-dwelling Chatiffe tribe, and convinces them to ally with Lanfeaur.
• 385 – {Establishment of the Kingdom of Sand’Oria}

The Kingdom of Sand’Oria is Founded
In the woods of Ronfaure, Lanfeaur d’Oraguille gathered together the most influential Elvaan for a bold announcement. He unsheathed his sword and cut into his own hand, letting the blood drip down on to a iron crown. Raising the crown of blood and iron (a powerful symbol of military might) to his head, Lanfeaur proclaimed, “We shall henceforth be known as the Kingdom of Sand’Oria.”

Upon his declaration, Lanfeaur was bathed in the sunlight that cut through the trees, as if to show the gods themselves were validating his coronation. Seeing the figure of Lanfeaur in all his magnificence had a profound effect on the knights in attendance and has been depicted in the picture above.
• 385 – The retainer Alphollon (founding Marquis of Tavnazia) is assigned to the Western peninsula of Quon.
• 387 – Lanfeaur conforms all currency under the unit Noit.

The Three Month Monarchy
With his victory at the Battle of the Two Kings, Ranperre was able to settle the domestic conflict beset upon his nation, at least for the time being. Unfortunately, the grudge between the parties would manifest itself for years to come. In 816, the remnants of Gjohnberre’s forces established a new nation in Norvallen as an act of rebellion.

This act weighed heavily on King Ranperre. He had no idea what forces they had amassed, and knew the day would come when they would besiege the castle. Still, he couldn’t simply lead the Temple Knights to go deal with them and abandon the capital, leaving it defenseless.

Considering this, the King decided to gather the Royal Knights under Erpalacion and the White Mage Volledyne of the Temple Knights. With a fighting force of 3,000 strong, he sent them forth on a mission.

The rivalry those two share is no secret, but neither is their exceptional prowess on the battlefield. Within just three months, they toppled the enemy castle, captured Prince ナフィベールNaphberre’s forces, and quelled the impending rebellion.

However, during the journey home, Erpalacion suddenly vanished from camp, causing a huge uproar. Volledyne, in an attempt to protect the reputation of the Temple Knights, organized a large-scale investigation. Eventually, with no trace of Erpalacion’s whereabouts and no reason found for his disappearance, there was no choice but to report to the King that an assassination had taken place. That very night, the King ordered an end to the search efforts, and a national memorial service was held.

The knights fought valiantly, but their efforts were futile, as the dragon burned down numerous houses, inns, cloisters and towers.
• 830 – King Ranperre storms into Vrtra’s den and exterminates the black dragon. He is awarded the title of “Dragonking” for his victory.

I have a longer timeline upon request if that helps. :3

Yeah, I'm not impressed either. Say what bad things you want about Voidwatch - at least they aren't charging you thirty bucks for it. Unless you forgot that you have to pay for this content update? They're giving reskinned zones and reskinned jobs and happily taking your money for it.

I'll get off the wet blanket parade if, and only if, that second revealed job seems vaguely inspired. Cuz reskinned RDM/SCH/BRD/whatever ain't cutting it right now for me.

All mages in FF games were basically the same thing with a different gimmick. All melee were the same with a different gimmick..so 'reskinned' you'll never be satisfied may as well keep being a wet blanket xD

While ToAU jobs and dancer could arguably called redundant but all of them were unique takes on different aspects if the game and jobs.

I dunno, says you. I sort of like the idea behind Rune Fencer. A magical defense tank designed as a magical defense tank is something we've been lacking forever (we even let those damn RDMs do it for a while) so it'll be interesting to see if they can actually design a tank job to meet current needs of the game. I like the idea; I worry about the execution. DNC and SCH, though fun to play, were both GROSSLY underpowered when compared to previous jobs to the point where they gave DNC like the single strongest job update in the game in one lump sum and fiddled around with SCH for a while until deciding on Embrava. Hopefully players won't have to wait years to have competitive new jobs this time around.

I plan on it! I'm just not as FFXI-centric as I used to be. I'm trying to get through all the pre-2.0 content in FFXIV, and Diablo III hasn't been helping my FFXI playtime, either. Mainly, though, I've been looking for more of a reason to spend time in Vana'diel than just grinding for more gear.

The recent expansion announcement solved that problem!

Another idea I had, and a reason to be excited, is that they expanded the PS2 drive space requirement nearly 10gb. I can't imagine that this one expansion will take up all this space, so I'm wondering if that hints at not only this new expansion, but possible commitment to adding more content in the years to come.

My money is on that. Someone on these boards posted about an unofficial interview with Tanaka about expansions, and he described them in the plural.

It's not much, but it gives me hope. Your point about the drive space supports this idea.

Interesting idea, but would be more likely if Norg was on the West side of the world, not East.

I bet it'll be a direct flight out of San d'Oria. Yet another reason Sandy > all others.

My bet is also on Selbina. Norg is more or less on the opposite side of the world (Elshimo Island is southeast of Windurst) so that would make no sense.

And yet they make windurstians travel to jueno to fly back over windurst to get to elshimo for the 1st time, things don't have to make sense.

Interesting idea, but would be more likely if Norg was on the West side of the world, not East.

I bet it'll be a direct flight out of San d'Oria. Yet another reason Sandy > all others.

I get at the point your driving at but you do realise that theres wya more land between us and before we start to completely circle the world right? Our map only covers, at best, maybe a quarter of the the whole vanadiel. So no it still be impractical to go east to go west from norg.

Now to answer the other post it makes complete sense since jueno is the hub of airships. It's the "major airport" as it were.

There are quite a few unused spaces SE left in there to take us to other parts of the world as they opened.

- Aforementioned Norg
- Aforementioned Selbina
- Aforementioned unused docks in Sandy
- Out of the Tenshodo in Jeuno, either to a secret airship dock or secret boat dock
- Forbidden tunnel in Kazham

I'd say Jeuno is just as likely as Selbina or Sandy or Norg, for no other reason that the Tenshodo were the cause of us getting to Aht Urghan, and Aldo and Gilgamesh are just as likely to get have their grubby little mitts all over whatever scheme is going to take us there.

I just can't imagine them linking us to Adoulin through a non-vanilla area so I think Norg is right out. Yeah I know we all own and have completed Zilart and they have begun requiring it for add-ons, but I still don't think they're going to require it or any progress through it, or the Kazham pass, to get to another expansion.

It seemed like, speculation going back years, that these were the possible links:
Norg- Far South?
Selbina- Far West
Unused docks in San d'Oria- Far North
Tenshodo's secret dock- Far East
Forbidden Tunnel in Kazham- Far South or where all the Mithra menfolk are kept.

Selbina-Adoulin seems to be ideal, a reflection of Mhaura-Whitegate, a zone people will take once or twice then never again with NMs rarely ever fought. I'd like to see an airship flight, a long one going halfway across the world with some cool NMs, Thunderbird (reskinned Roc) & Doom Gaze. Imagine an airship and the sky is filled with cumulonimbus in the distance for Thunderbird or Doom Gaze attacking at night. Gotta give them good drops & titles so people would actually use the zone.

Edit: Or Sky Horror! Gotta have an overpowered Sea Monk NM prey on one airship flight. Don't make it anything special, just an orange & brown octopi that descends out of the sky quite out of the blue to attack players.

Just been reading through the notes and well...last time I got this excited was the level increase announcement.

Looking at the new stuffs/expansion I am very impressed so far, not only are we getting the UI changes/2 hour abilities but we get to farm as well? Perhaps even a 2nd home?

Play as monsters? I mean seriously how can anyone say the devs dont care. Course if things dont work they will get forgotten but at least SE is trying new things they probably wouldnt of pre abyssea/level changes. My break would come to an end full time when these updates/expansion comes along.

he gets subdefaulted because he's an idiot who posts nonsense and drivel 95% of the time, so no one likes him, and his karma is so low he's either at or near auto-subdefault. I wish they would add whips, but according to SE, due to the archaic coding (PS2 limitations etc.) whips are a physical impossibility to code because of how they move, or something. They could be used by BLU BST SMN PUP or whatever. What's another weapon type we're missing? I guess we're getting bells in the form of ranged weapons similar to instruments, we already have ranged "books", perhaps... measures? SCH GEO exclusive, smack your party member over the head with a ruler to buff them!

Whips are @#%^ing stupid and have no prior established context to validate adding them, and that doesn't even touch the fact that there's absolutely no need for another weapon anyway. The problem with whips, and the reason I call them stupid, has nothing to do with whips themselves. Whips are vicious and versatile weapons in the hands of an expert, but there's so much that would need to go in to making them look anything but completely stupid, and even then, it would be such a grossly inaccurate portrayal of the weapon that there's just no way to do it justice. Aside from that, don't use bells as an excuse, ranged/ammo miscellaneous sh*t is miscellaneous sh*t. Bards don't slam their harps into faces or shove their pipes up- you get the idea. They're not actually weapons, they're just making use of the same slot.
