And, looks like just when I thought I was out, they drag me back in! 2013 is a long ways off still and I've only been out of game since March, but maybe when I reactivate next week I'll stick around for the time being...

Lastly, every single person who uttered the words "they can't do expansions anymore" and "they'll never do away with PS2" ...... owned. This has given me new faith that they have heard our cries of passion for this game. Today I can say for the first time in a very long time, I look forward to the future in FFXI.

Being they haven't given a release date for it.. I think it's safe to assume that it will be available before Dec 31st, 2013.
That is if the world doesn't end or they push it back.

I'm thinking late spring early summer release.. but then again no one knows

After reading the interview Elmer posted, I'm going to say they are not dropping PS2 support.

I can't see them dropping ps2 support after just telling all the ps2 people to upgrade their hardware to nearly double the size capacity or gtfo.

Just to play devil's advocate:

We know, for a fact, SE is releasing the expansion in Japan, so they're obviously not dropping support. Since the ps2 was reaching its HDD limit, it needed an update. Then, isn't it simply easier to increase the file capacity of FFXI for all ps2 users rather than just those running the JP version of the game? Inconvenient, maybe, but certainly possible.
