I've got a problem, and nothing seems to work. I've found forum posts where other people have had the same problem, but none of them have definite solutions. I've tried all of the solutions that were represented in every post I could find, and to no avail.

The situation is, I just recently reactivated my FFXI account, and updated it. While it updated, it kept disconnecting me from the server and interrupting the update. Kind of annoying, but no big deal, since I eventually got the game completely updated. Then I get in-game, and the trouble begins. I play perfectly fine for about five minutes before my LS icon inevitably becomes a red bubble, and I disconnect with errors 4001, followed by either 0512 or 0250.

Solutions I have attempted:
-Restarting the modem
-Forwarding all of the recommended ports on my router
-Setting my computer to a DMZ Server
-Turning off NAT Filtering
-Disabling SIP ALG
-Updated my router's firmware

Also, I by default have my computer directly wired into my router, so it's not wireless interference. I don't have the problem of an erratic connection with any other programs.

Anyone out there some kind of Computer WHM who can cure what ails me?

Does this occur if you wire directly into the modem?

Most likely issues with your ISP or the web in general. Here's a recent thread started at SE Forums with some suggestions:

I tried plugging my computer directly into the modem, and it worked wonderfully. I'm going to be picking up an ethernet splitter, so I can have both my router and my computer hard-wired into the modem (since I live with other people, I can't just hog all the internet to myself). Not sure why I didn't try that sooner!

Thanks!

So, after plugging in the splitter my computer wouldn't even recognize that I was connected to the modem, though the router still worked fine. Go figure. At least now I know that the problem lies definitively with the router.

I had a similar problem my first time back and not even hard plugging into the router fixed the issue(which lead me to believe it was my router). But I tried a new modem from my provider and it worked great (dropped a cisco one and got a much better one for free)

I also had to make sure
-Forwarding all of the recommended ports to my IP address on my network from my router
-Setting my computer to a DMZ Server

Done all of those! I even made sure that the ports were forwarded to my computer's local IP. As long as I can have my computer plugged into my modem it's fine, but having to go through the router is what's not working for me.

May be your NAT settings or something in your router, need to go through your manual and the router's settings.

I dunno, I don't have any config setup on my router for FFXI and it works fine. Sounds like you should look into getting a new router.

Your modem only allows one 'computer' to be connected because your ISP is a standard level of jerkass, your splitter is just going to cause problems.

You need a proper configuration on, or perhaps as already suggested a new, router. The only thing you probably haven't tried is cloning your MAC address to the router just to be sure your modem isn't going 100% dickhead and only allowing the first thing that connects each time it powers up or renews, but if setting DMZ doesn't even work your router is simply a pile of sh*t.

I use some nasty vernacular to induce hostility, because it has always seemed to me that you must treat routers and modems as hostile and ignorant parties if you want to get to the bottom of why something doesn't work. Most commonly a router is just so cheaply made it can't handle more than about half a gigabyte of throughput before requiring a hard reset (late version WRT54Gs are notorious for this). The other plausible hitch, though less and less common over the past decade, is that the modem stores the first MAC address that connects to it and is hostile to any other, throttling and generally being a bitch if you try to change your network at all, because ISPs dishonestly intended or tried to upsell people on 'a modem that can have more than one computer connected at a time', and the practice of distributing modems that only allow a single 'client' (which can be your own router though) kinda stuck.
