OoT is so 2010.

Can't help but feel that the new MNK 2hour is lacklustre, though.

SE did mention these are meant to be merited sometime in the future right? I guess some might be bad to start out with, but increase in usefulness with some more merits.
Yes, but some of these concepts are so fundamentally bad that no amount of meriting will save them. I am referring of course to BST's new 2 hour. Losing your pet is bad, mmkay? And blowing your 2 hour ability to do it to yourself is even worse. Every time people have said that we are seeing only the first part of something and we need to wait to complain until we see the rest, they have been wrong. Remember 1500 Heavy Metal Plates! Once something has been put into the game SE, is much more reluctant to change it.

I didn't mean to suggest anything else. I merely meant that for things like RDM 2h, since people are saying it might be useful if the increase is good maybe it will be with full merits. Making it a good 2h without any merits will just end up making it OP with full merits or make meriting it pointless because the increase is too small to warrant the points.

If we only get the privilege every two hours, why can't it be overpowered?

I agree to an extent. I can see its uses, but they're very limited by the following:

1) You basically have to be the only damage dealer on the monster. Even with the enmity spike that the ability gives you, it's not going to be hard by any means for someone to pull the mob off you if they are at the hate cap. If you're the only damage dealer on the monster, then the monster will be attacking you, and you'll be able to counter.

2) The monster has a high attack speed/ high rate of multi-attack. This two-hour isn't going to really be of any use if the monster you're fighting attacks slowly and doesn't swing often, since it is basically just Counterstance with a higher proc rate and no hit to the defense. Granted, you won't get hit while it's up since you'll be ready to counter, but if the monster swings slowly, you're better off just using Perfect Counter and using Hundred Fists.

This two-hour would work best on Monk type mobs or mobs that have detrimental en-status effects (Endoom, Enpetrify, etc) to them where you absolutely don't want to get hit. While this would be nice to have, those sorts of fights, especially covering both limitations, aren't that common.

The trolling that goes on in here causes me nothing but headaches every time it pops up, and as hard as you guys are making it for me, I'd really like for that to be cut back in general. Obviously some trolling is inevitable, and at times fun for everyone involved, but there are also some times, here and there, were some people are making legitimate comments, and a half dozen posts or so are just nothing but troll posts. The topic ends up getting derailed, the OP gets extremely defensive, and I'm forced to lock the whole thing. At the same time, there are people that I feel, to be blunt, could use a bit of a thicker skin about some things. While some of the barbs thrown their way I do find legitimately harsh, there are other quips that seem so minor that I would almost not even consider them trolling.

What I'd really like is for there to be a kind of an understanding to a degree so we can meet in the middle with this. For those that enjoy trolling to just ease up a bit, and for those on the other hand to not necessarily take everything said as serious as you might do. I'd like =10, the job forums, etc to be fun for everyone, and not some place where half the people are getting kicks out of trolling like crazy and the other half are taking offense to what could be perceived as very small things.

I'm sorry, but without some sort of crackdown to accompany that comment I don't beleive it will be met.

Some people do not know the stove is hot until they get burned. Some people will only do what they are supposed to in the immediate danger of unwanted consequence.

Only doing your homework, at the last minute, because you'll fail if you don't turn it in.
Not drinking and driving only because you're on parole and you know there's a cop waiting outside the bar.
Only showing up on time for work because you can't afford to get written up.

We have those types here. Even if they are to a lesser degree of severity. And the only way Zam boards, in general, are going to stand an environmental improvement is if there is a tolerance policy change in the moderation and administration.

That means, leaning towards those who don't have the thicker skin, as opposed to being more forgiving of Trolls.

There's nothing wrong with slapping someone with a mute for a day for going too far. That should be the 'slap on the wrist' level of punishment instead of a verbal warning. This forces people to take time to cool off and gives them every opportunity to re-evaluate their approach. When a person starts accumulating repeat offenses of that, then you can start making the mutes/bans longer.

As far as RDM Melee, that is a tired old subject that has not changed in years. The official boards cover most of the discussion on that topic now and they're far more informed about it than most. Even though I no longer play I still follow those conversations and the 'development' of my favorite Job.

As far as the 2hr, or rather the only one that interests me. The ability they've listed should have been a 15 minute Meritable ability, and even then, is underpowered for that sort of function. In my opinion, if this is the approach they have, it should be a 3 minute buff, and the effects on each ability should be enhanced further than they are.

Alternatively they can make the effect a party-wide buff that effects the enhancing magic of all effects on the entire party regardless of who cast it or when (Yes, this means a stronger Embrava as well, as you're burning 2 2hr cool-downs for it.) Then duration can be balanced in the testing server accordingly.

But that's just throwing some ideas in the kettle. I doubt SE will take much action on this, unless the new Producer brings Yoshida's policies back from FFXIV with him.

Mnk 2hour sounds great to me. So what if it, like 90% of things in this game, is situational.

Also im about sound like a real ***. I get that its annoying to have people misbehaving or w/e, but just how stressful is it to lock a troll thread? Headache-inducing? Really?

Problem is that most 2hrs are situational just because they are on 2hr timers ("I could use this now, but we might run into an even more dire situation"). They either need to be moved to something shorter (30 mins), or revitalizers need to be more abundant (given as a temp item after an event such as Nyzul/Limbus).

Hmm, an ability that steals TP from the mob... TP that it gets from people hitting it... which means that it'd only be useful in zerg... where Blood Weapon is far more useful so you can run a full Souleater dump.

Yeah, chalk up another dumb SE idea because they really still have no idea what to give DRK.

Also, new sig, but no more kitty :(

Now onto what really happened. You read an FAQ and decided "multiplies attacks per round" and "decreases attack delay and recast timers" meant the same thing and you hoped that I either wouldn't have caught your mistake (I did) or that I would be dumb enough to fall for your bluff (I wasn't).

It's okay, we all make mistakes.

Actually, it is. If you're attacking with a reduced delay in FFXI you're getting more attacks out in the same time span than you would normally. FFXI isn't turn based, so you can't apply the same turn based mechanics that FF1 had. There was certainly a Haste spell though, as I've played the remade game on PSP which actually calls it Haste, and yes Red Mages and Wizards can learn the spell too.

I'm not really seeing an argument here. How did this drag so long?

Because it was basically this, just replace Kevin Bacon with Haste and Footloose with FF1.

And yeah, you nailed it. And just like in FFXI, Haste in FF1 was a huge boon for all melee characters. Combine it with a few Tempers and you've got yourself easy mode.

SE should give FFXI RDM something crazy-exploitable like Temper. That'd make RDM wanted for every event and put an end to every RDM argument ever.

The forum rules are here: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/wiki/Forum_Rules

They outline everything that is allowed, and is not allowed on the Zam forums, and what punishments may be metted out by admins. In this case, Sections II and III are in play. The moderator has determined that a certain conversation in this thread is off topic and has acted to remove it. Please discontinue propegating it.

Regarding punishments, please leave the administratoring to the administrators. Calling for mutes or bans of individuals usually just inflames situations.

It's a combination of things really. There's what goes on in the topic, then PMs, then post reports, and so on. It's just the whole thing that ends up being a headache because it ends up happening so often. If there was just a little less trolling and/or people not getting as upset and taking everything said super serious. This isn't some iron fist rule I'm imposing...God knows I was stupid to try that in the past and that backfired. It's just something I'd slowly like to work on with everyone to make this somewhere that's a bit friendlier all in all.

The new MNK 2hr is trash because Counterstance already exists.

MNK already had a good 2hr though and several of the jobs now have TWO crap 2hrs though, so I don't think many MNKs are going to complain.

I wasn't asking for clarification of your policy Kaolain, nor was I calling for a specific punishment.

I was putting your company policies into question as it was being pulled into the subject matter. I retain my opinion that your policies are too lenient.

The question I'd want to pose is, where is the line between iron fisting, and being firm enough to be respected?

Again, some people are going to misbehave until you display that yes, their actions have consequences. And perhaps it's my age showing, but getting slapped with a mute or a temp ban never seemed like such a dramatic event a decade ago. Now it seems that the administration fears its use.

Not that I don't appreciate the personal touch, Volstrues. I'm in support of admins being among 'us common folk' more often. But I feel as if you guys could be a hair firmer with things to get the point across quicker.

I'm done with my peanut gallery commenting though. I'd rather hear your personal views on the 2hrs.

I personally am more wary of handing out mutes and everything just because earlier on here, I was...overzealous, as far as trying to change things around here, and, as mentioned, it backfired on me. I do still hand out mutes, but I try to make that my last resort. I go into the situation hoping that people will straighten up a bit once they've seen that I've asked/told them to stop whatever it is they're doing and that their own posts are now nuked. I try to be lenient just because I believe it doesn't have to come to that. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but that's what I believe.

As far as my feelings on the new two-hours, I made a post on the first page addressing what my beliefs in them were. Given the actual new information that's come out, Paladin's and Red Mage's abilities seems very iffy, most of the others seem about straightforward and basically as we believed they would be, and Summoner's is basically broken in terms of awesomeness.

DRG gets their old 2-hour back, in terms of a full wyvern heal, pretty much. Unless the thing gets like -90% damage taken, there's no other buff to the wyvern that would make this worthwhile over Spirit Surge when you can just call another one.

WAR's should be DRK's instead, since that was sort of a 'thing' with Twilight Scythe.

PLD's better reflect like... 1000 damage per block. Or last like five goddamn minutes. Else why the hell would you use it over Invincible?

THF's sounds incredible.

Infinte ammo RNG is on the right track.

DNC stunlock could become a thing.

SCH actually sounds like you pick someone and they gain the enmity of everyone. Combine this with some mild enmity reworking and this could be crazy, but it does have to compete with Embrava and Kaustra. I do wonder if you could hit a PLD with it and every mob will book it for them as you pull them, and they can just supertank whole waves of mobs.

Meh, it deals damage so I guess it's better than Perfect Dodge....but Trick Attack on a 2 hour recast (or a 2 hour that requires a party member to use for that matter) is not something I would call "incredible."

I guess we'll have to see how much damage it does...but I'm guessing, because it "It transfers all of your enmity to the player in front of you," that the damage will not be as good as we would like in the name of "Barance."

I would not be suprised at all if SE views the enmity transfer property as the primary feature of this 2 hour.

DNC can't stunlock with their 2-hour because it has no effect on Flourish recast. It "resets" their timers like Spirit Surge resets jumps, but that's it.
