FFXI was never officially available on the PS3. If you had the first gen 60 gig PS3, you could jury-rig it into working, however. I'd assume Seekers will be the same in that respect.

You going to ask this same "can ffxi be played on ps3" in every FFXI section of the forums?

It will not be available for the ps2 in the USA and thus also not available as a backwards compatible with the ps3.

Oh yeah, forgot about that.

So the long and short answer is no.

Actually I'm going to go out on a limb here and say not possible in this case.

Greetings,

I’d like to take a moment to clarify which platform Seekers of Adoulin will be available on for those that have been asking. We will continue to support North American FINAL FANTASY XI players on the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC (Windows) platforms. However, FINAL FANTASY XI: Seekers of Adoulin will only be available on the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms in North America when it is released in 2013.

As someone in that thread on the OF said: "Who even carries new PS2 games still?" and not new as un-open, but new as in NEW game that just came out
You have like over a year to save your pennies and buy: PC or 360 if you wish to be able to play the new xpack. Or, and I hate to say it, sell off your ps3 to get a 360 (or trade. If your ps3 can play ps2 games it is one of the harder ones to find..at least around my area).
But of course by this time, FF14 should be in the Rebirth release so you could just change to that.

All 10 of them?

Also, I think most of the playerbase just wants SE to completely drop the PS2- NA and JP regions - though JP want PS3 instead...

I listed the reasons why SE has stated they can't do PS3 the thread you put in feedback, so instead I'll go with the reasons they're ignoring the NA PS2 players for now.

1. There aren't that many of them left. FFXI runs on any computer you can buy off the shelf today, most PS2s have trouble communicating with the latest and greatest televisions (my 40" Samsung TV tells the PS2 "I'm sorry I don't speak the olde tongue" and then merrily ignores it), and while the PS2s themselves are still alive and kicking, making XBox and PS3 sort of look ashamed by their rings of death within 6 months of use, the hard drives for them are in short supply and will eventually fail. And there aren't easily found replacements.

2. SE will not get any new players on PS2 in either country. Fat PS2s are no longer manufactured and are virtually impossible to find brand new. And good luck getting a copy of FFXI for PS2 for less than $400.

3. I believe around 2% of NA users were on PS2 at last survey, while closer to 20% of JP players are still using it. It's frankly not worth the dev costs to translate the game for 1000 people, although it's worth it to develop it in your native language for 10,000 people.

4. Many PS2 users do have other means of playing the game, they just prefer their comfortable old consoles to their laptops. This may be SE's attempt to start prying the PS2 user base away from their obsolete hardware and toward more modern stuff.

5. PS2 is obsolete. Obsolete. Obsolete. The only reason they're even bothering with it in Japan is because Sony hasn't officially ended support for the PS2. As soon as Sony gives a cut off deadline (say, 2015 or whatever), SE will likely jump on the opportunity to end support for the game on PS2 in Japan as well.
#14REDACTED, Posted: Aug 30 2012 at 8:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) they are already moving on more modern stuff FF14

I should dig around and find them ps2 disks. Seems there could be money made, before it is too late Smiley: lol

Cause i loved this game as well as all FF games , and it has always been a console franchise. With Sony and Nintendo, until these rats of microsoft came with their astronomics money offers to change everything and crashing my little world.

FFXI won't be alowed to be better than 12 wich was on ps2 also , it's like saying well diablo is running on a CRY ENGINE 3 engine and D2 Unreal engine , this makes no sense , they have less and less player going to 11 in fact peaple are slowly leave , they add to cut down servers , peaple will go with more modern games like ff14 guild wars 2 stuff like that , This was meant to be played on ps2 and they won't backstab what gave birth to the game. Adoulin is meant to see the light on ps2 one day , aswell as ps2 is here to stay like it or not , Man Playing in front of a 32 " HD TV with wireless controller wireless keyboard and dualshock compatible game with ffxi makes it pretty unique style vs sitting in a chair like mommy and playing with an unconfortable mouse and keyboard, vs analog , and a small screen really close to the eyes , makes it less comfortable for a mmorpg, now you'll say GET 360 version, yo we were born on ps2 , you guys are intruders and we tolarate pc and box users ,
just by a question of simple matter of respect should sony and se work for either a ps3 revamped full edition or a ps2 adoulin download.

tolerate?
We get it, you <3 you ps2 and ps3. But old hardware is old. Just because you and maybe 1000 other people, in the NA, refuse to upgrade isn't going to make SE care.

Oh, and how you can say 12 was better then 11, yea I don't know. I only played that game once, and thought there was some kind of mid-game-credits going on, to find out I was at the end...
Actually this entire post is orz style.

FTFY. There are no replacements. Period. You can only use FFXI on PS2 with a genuine Sony hard drive. PS2 hard drives have MagicGate support in their firmware, which is required for "official" game support, which FFXI uses. (as opposed to HDLoader, etc.)

PS3 backward compatibility can basically use any laptop drive, but those consoles aren't being made anymore either.

Dude, you do know that it came out on PC in the NA region first, right? PS2 came out six months later in NA, and Xbox was a year after that.

Any "history" it needs to preserve in NA is on the PC.

#22 Aug 31 2012 at 12:52 PM Rating: Excellent
You're damn right we're being divisive about this. The PS2 is the dead weight holding FFXI back from many potential improvements. SE finally gave up and starting fixing the PC version anyway, because even they realized that the PS2 is obsolete.

There are some people who insist on breaking out the old Atari 2600 for a game of Combat.

Then there are those of us who are more sensible who are totally happy to run Combat on an emulator on our PC.

Sounds like a lot of work to re-release two games which will make no where near as much money as an HD re-release of FF7.
