Another returning player threadFollow

Hello!

I was a long time player of FFXI (started at the time of the NA release). I quit around the Third expansion and am thinking about returning because I miss the game so much.

My question is: I am going to start a new character if I do return but I'm afraid with the low server numbers it will be nearly impossible for me to start new and to even find groups to level up with. I really miss the game and would love to come back to the game with a new account and work my way up. Do you guys think it would be too difficult to do this? Has the game changed enough to where I could solo to level 20 and my subjob?

Thanks guys!

You will have no trouble finding a group to level with if you want one.

Since your thread is titled Another Returning Player Thread, then I have to assume you read every other thread and know the following
Fields of Valor and Grounds of Valor make leveling super fast.
You should join a linkshell before even starting.
Group leveling is done in alliances.
You should join a linkshell before even starting.
The game is completely different.
You should join a linkshell before even starting.
Playing solo is definitely an option.

Thanks for the info. I have been browsing for about an hour or so and saw that, obviously, there has been quite a few changes to the game. I see that leveling is very guided now and only occurs in a couple of places which kind of disappoints me. Have they taken the time sink out of the game? If I do return, where would be a good place to look for an LS, somewhere on the server forums here?

Right here on this very forum would be a good place to look for a linkshell. Typically, someone will chime into one of these returning player threads and offer you a spot in their linkshell- but really, those invites are generally open to all new players, not just the original poster.

Leveling is much faster, but it's still an MMO, there will always be time sinks.

Thanks, I appreciate the help!

One last question: I've seen quite a bit of posting about how some jobs are irrelevant now and was wondering if you could give me your two cents. My original account was a 75 PLD and BLM with a bard around lvl 50. I would love to level a bard again but I would also like to bring a job to endgame that is needed and finds groups quite rapidly.

If you like brd it is definately wanted in voidwatch. Also if you're going to be a blm you'll probably want to have brd as a sub at least - and at that point, why not just get it to 99 if you like it. Having more jobs means more luck with shouts.

Whm and Brd are also much cheaper to get adequately spelled up. Many of BLM's spells are cray cray expensive.

If you're into mages Blu is also in demand but it takes a lot more work. That said, once you have it leveled you'll have a solid soloing job.

As for bard being wanted in voidwatch, more and more lately I've had my relic BRD suddenly get turned into another BLM or WHM for the alliance, much to my frustration.

That doesn't mean not to level BRD - but even the best of us need to have alternate jobs available for when circumstances call for it. Since exp is now so plentiful, I'd level up WHM, BLM, and BRD. Between the three, you can do any even in the game and get any gear you want or need, pretty much, and then work on other jobs for the fun of it.

I find that so odd given that on Asura often brd is one of the last jobs people are shouting for. That and blu.
