I've always done this, but I think this Bonanza will be my first time not bothering because there are no new prizes I don't have. Got all the Rank 5 statues (thanks mules), don't really care about the special battles seeing as how I'm still sitting on an entry item from ages ago. Would have been nice to see SOMETHING new for Rank 5. A new statue, a costume, AA weapons...

I don't know if anybody remembers this, but way back when, there was a mog bonanza that was set up so that if you bought all your marbles on PS2 and you let the moogle choose for you, you were guaranteed not to win a rank 5 prize.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, there is never any overlap between ranks. That is to say, the last digit of the rank 1-4 winning numbers will never be the same as the rank 5 digit. So it's only possible for a given marble to win one rank.

That sounds rather conspiracy theory to me...

Not sure whether or not it has happened in the past, but the official announcement for this Bonanza says otherwise:
Quote:
* The winning number for each prize rank will be drawn separately. In the event that winning numbers overlap for multiple prize ranks, the higher-ranked prize will be given precedence. For example, should the winning numbers for ranks 4 and 5 be “11” and “1” respectively, the holder of a bonanza marble etched with the number “11111” will be awarded with a rank 4 prize.

I remember that. Was a rather large ********* as I recall.

Whoops, I was a little off there. I guess it was rank 4 that you couldn't win. But yeah, pretty crazy at the time.

I want a Behemoth Tongue (Rank 4), I probably have a 10% chance right?

Not sure why this seems confusing to me, something tells me I'm overthinking it.

The main reason you're having trouble 'getting' it is SE's usual bizarre use of the English language.

As Raelix said, many (most?) of us expected it to work by SE generating a single number which was then used in each of the 5 rank win checks, I certainly was somewhat bemused when the first Bonanza ended and SE produced a list of 5 separate number draws, one for each rank.

XXXX0
XXXX1
XXXX2
etc

I use this to generate a bunch of 0-9 digits:

hexdump -Cv </dev/random | head | cut -c11-58 | tr -d -C '0-9\n' | cut -c1-15

Then I fill in the guarantee digits.

(you can use /dev/urandom if you prefer)

I let the moogle pick the first number for me. Then I re-use the first four digits, and change the final digit to match the 0-9 pattern. 10 total characters, 100 marbles, means a guaranteed Rank 4 prize.

So he gives you 15291

and you get 9 more like:

15290
15292
15293
15294
etc until 15299

And do the same with all 10 characters? How does that promise you a Rank 4 win?

Edit: Nvm, was getting Rank 2 and Rank 4 backwards , haha. Rank4 is better than nothing!

Seems like you meant Rank 5 though, because your method doesn't promise to match the last 2 digits.. just the last one alone.

Oh right, forgot the vital step of doing the same with the last two digits. Duh. I blame the fact that my office's coffee pot died overnight and we're all dying here.

The problem with the PS2 thing was that the 'pick my number for me' on PS2 was different from other platforms and very un-random. It picked patterns like 12121 or 23423 and would never produce something with two consecutive digits the same, like 23466. While this didn't technically change the chances of winning at all, it meant that all PS2 players using that function were choosing from a very limited pool of numbers, and when the numbers drawn were someing like 54688 and 66 for rank 1 and rank 4 prizes, it meant that nobody on a PS2 using the 'choose my numbers' option could have possibly won those because it would never pick those due to the silly patterns it used.

Others took the pattern the PS2 client used for generating numbers and assumed that would be the pattern SE would use for generating winning numbers, so partly advocated using it and partly thought they had an advantage over people picking 'numbers that won't be used' in the inverse of the above issue. Needless to say, these people were idiots.

I hadn't even been using the "pick for me" feature at the time, but after that whole debacle, I'm sure as heck not ever using it. Just can't be trusted >_>

I'm pretty sure I tried "pick for me" method last night and it offered me a number less than 5 digits? What's the point in that? You can't win a rank 1 prize with a four digit number so you might as well guess 12345 instead of 2345? It didn't show zeroes on the front so I assume that does not count as 02345?

One of the rank 2's or rank 3's had a leading zero once, I think, so if it gave you 234 I suppose it'd count as 00234. Just a display thing really.

What a quirky event. Not sure I've played any other game ever that had an event surrounded by so much vague / misrepresented information. Kind of funny really.

I reactivated all of my old gardening mules last night and set up their bonanzas, so I've got 12 characters with 10 marbles each.I used the random number generator at random.org to generate 100 3 digit numbers, then i just appended 00 through 99 to the end of it for the first 10 characters. For the last 2 I just let the moogle pick all of my numbers.

240k for a guaranteed Love Torque? As a career relic THF there's no way i can pass that up!

You could take the cash and pay people to get you a level 90 Empy and still have 80% of it left over.

Taking a pre-Heavy Metal empy borders on insult to many, as already discussed in this very thread. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

#71REDACTED, Posted: Feb 02 2013 at 10:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I don't care if people get their panties in wad if I pick pre heavy metal empy, too lazy to farm all the timed nm's. could easily buy Abby items to 90 version for 40 mil, but time saved is worth more to me. Maybe glanzfaust should suck less?

Right, because there's so many other things in this game to do instead for the seven days, tops, it'd take a merc group to do your Empy.

Oh wait, you don't have an Empy yet, so by all accounts you'd probably be spending that time doing what's best for the job you'd wanna play which is... making... an Empy...

Value your goddamn time, sure, but don't blow 200mil+ in opportunity cost because you don't wanna sit on your *** a few days while somebody farms the empy for you. Grow up. Do the friggin' math. Don't look like a total idiot to everyone around you, please.

Nobody should be that narrow in focus, be it 'just a game' or whatever. It's pure unadulterated willfull ignorance and it's what's wrong with people in general.

Above debate aside, I kinda doubt that's true tbh

Especially if you don't have the money/patience to take it past 90, which I'm assuming you don't

If mnk is punching to kill things than vere is the way to go. I have an empy, but now that I'm going to school an working full time my play time is reduced to 2-4 hours a day. I can squeeze VW runs to get vere to 99. Problem isn't I want vere, problem is mnk mythic sucks. Also finding a buyer for kclub (best Gil option) would just be added time I don't want to spend.

You'd get more from rank 1 gil prize than kraken club. The supposition to take kraken and sell it was last year when it was rank 2 (which was only a couple million for the gil prize) I think?
