*Important:
Before you install FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition, please ensure that you "Delete Local Content" of any previous versions of FINAL FANTASY XI within your Steam library. Detailed instructions can be found here.
Once you have installed FINAL FANTASY XI: Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition, please visit the Square Enix account management page to either link your registration key and bonus item codes to your existing account or to create a new account.

Half the challenge of FFXI seems to be in trying to do business with SE.

..because we tend to go to extraordinary lengths to play this game we will do anything to get it.
If there was no draw about it then we wouldn't put up with as much as we do :S

Just look at the installation process once you got the game and that proves it's own point. ><

Have we ever been able to buy a standalone expansion through Steam?

I'm guessing this is another result of the game being 12 years old. The method involved for installing a FFXI expansion probably can't conform to Steam's DLC requirements.
