I don't know where people are getting the idea "everything else is dead" from, but on my server there are still plenty of shouts for salvage, NNI, and Voidwatch. Also the salvage 2.0 and nyzul gear both still have some fantastic pieces. I mean I've done several voidwatch groups myself in the last week - and they didn't take long to fill up, either. Is there a lot of good delve gear? Yes, but it is noticeably missing some key things (like extensive damage taken gear for example) that need to be found from other events.

Nevermind that there are still people building empys, still people doing +2 item/+1 item farms etc. It doesn't seem like there is any less of that (in particular) than there was before SoA. Has it fallen off a lot since it's heyday? Yeah but that started around the time

Also I don't think SE intended to "kill the big linkshells" - I think SE honestly thought people would, say, bring a BRD to hit brd procs in abyssea - not have black mages subbing brd - or bring a DRG to hit polearm procs - not have a ninja using a halloween item to hit them. It was the playerbase that did that, not SE - though their loot design facilitated that. From Delve, I'd say it looks like they may have learned from those mistakes.

I agree with Olorinus. I don't feel that Square Enix intended to kill off larger groups with Abyssea, but that the player base, given how we go for efficiency whenever possible, went with means to where we could go with maybe three or so people and cover what would have otherwise maybe taken a party or so. It's far easier to get just one or two others to be able to go in and farm something up quickly than it is to organize a party of six or so, and we went with that rather than the full party or so.

If anything, them adding the proc system was their way of trying to get the player community to invite more jobs than what we normally would. We chose to go about a different method, but they tried pushing for content that'd make us take other and more jobs than what we would normally.

Aside from procs, Abyssea's main failing for large-group tolerance was how most items came via direct drops from NMs. Now, imagine if you could've bought Emp NM drops with Cruor once you've killed the NM? At the very least, you probably would see a lot more parties out there. I don't think something like 50k for one unreasonable, either. Though I'd much rather see HMPs for something like 10k per due to the stupidity of that phase to this day. And while I had most AF3 at least +1, I wouldn't have been bashful at throwing some of my cruor to avoid some of the more annoying NMs, too.

I saw a THF run in and waste a brew on Sedna because they were short exactly one item needed for a +2 upgrade and didn't feel like shouting for a party.

Pick me for the Contest Vlor!

If you want to maximize your plasm to the point where you'd have those unrealistic standards, I don't get why you'd pick the inferior zone to farm.

It's also unclear why a monk with that weapon would need to farm Plasm in a pickup alliance when they're obviously capable of clearing bosses.

Back in the day when Curor was worth a lot more that might have been foolish. If someone did that now, I wouldn't really see an issue with it.

I'll add my horror story.

I joined a pick up party for that sandworm in Abyssea Attowa, under the illusion that I'd come out of it with some coins of wieldance (I still don't have any +2'd gear). After much bloodshed, we kill the sandworm thingy, and I lot the coin. The aptly jobbed thief in the party had other plans, and instead of passing everyone's items, ninja lotted the coin, and tried to lot the jewels of vision. After a brief discussion with the party leader, I, as White mage, left, and forced the pug to dissolve, under the mutual understanding that we'd try again some other time, without a goon in the party.

It wasn't a mistake or a failure to communicate; we agreed prior to the fight that he would get stones of wieldance. Somehow, he misinterpreted it as "Take everything! Kill all the women and tarutaru!", and screwed everyone over. I left with only a mediocre ammo piece for my troubles.

What does this have to do with delve? Lol, nothing, lrn2allak~ In any case, these elitist jerks aren't a product of the new expansion, the new expansion just makes them more noticeable, and makes their idiocy more accessible. They're everywhere, in every community, and ffxi is no exception save for the fact that our jerks can /yell.

See, I'm one of those DD's that'd likely be in +1 Empy. I'm not lazy, I just know how this game works. Right now, the shouts are plentiful enough that you can squeeze in when people are desperate. You might win, you might lose. But if you win, you get the clear out of the way, and can just grind Plasma a number of ways.

I quit for nearly a year, missed most of the NNI/Salvage II/Meebles/VWNM/PW stuff that came during that time, so my DD gear is pretty abysmal, and since I tended to be on mages, my SCH is best-geared with +2 Empy. I did grind my BRD to 99 (still underskilled despite several hours of sleeping and threnoding mobs, my hands STILL ache from that), and actually went on a failed run as it (not my fault, thankfully, SE needs to make these fights 30 minutes, we lost @1%...). I've also successfully gotten Matamata under my belt, leaving me 2/3 on the lower, but 0/3 on the higher tiers....

I am hoping that my next weekend playing, I can get at least one boss clear. I've given up hope of getting the full 6, and just want either an Alternator or a pair of Rigors. Like I told a friend, the window is closing for the shout clears, pretty soon it will just be farming, sort of like how it's rare to get VW or Old-time Nyzul climbs....

Please don't act like you're job is so super special that you feel justified in going around telling other people how to play like you're some sort of authority on maintaining its fragile reputation.

I actually make it a point to make at least one gramatical error in most of my posts, just to catch the people that can't help themselves for pointing them out in order to out themselves that they don't actually have a proper retort.

You see what I did here.

I hope this doesn't offend you in any way, but that makes me really sad for you.
It's quite possible to build very close relationships online. And it's also very possible to have poor relationships with even your closest blood relatives.

That wouldn't change the point of his comment. The preface indicates that it wasn't meant to be negative. It is perfectly "ok" to have sympathy for anyone who maybe in that described situation. Whether or not it is warranted and/or necessary is another case.

Pretty much this. I realize that not everyone gets along with their family which is why I said I hoped it wasn't offensive, but at the same time it should also be easy to understand that many people have much stronger relationships with family than they do with acquaintances. I was only struck by the comment due to my own circumstances, but I assure you that the sympathy was genuine. Apologies Smiley: frown

amen to both of those.

Also Filth, we know you well enough that if you hadn't meant things the way you said your apologies would be sarcastic and we would know it (not actually a bad quality by the way).

Honestly the community is luck and work like any other social interaction. Luck in that no matter how hard you try you won't get anywhere if you don't have the luck to find people that resonate with you, regardless. Work as in being a person who people want to hang out with.
