I like the reward system in Delve, I think it's a far better loot distribution system than we've seen in for example Logwatch however killing off every low man/small group event in the process was a big mistake. Especially as they did their best to kill the big linkshells with Abyssea. There should be a mix of events ingame... not just one.
I don't know where people are getting the idea "everything else is dead" from, but on my server there are still plenty of shouts for salvage, NNI, and Voidwatch. Also the salvage 2.0 and nyzul gear both still have some fantastic pieces. I mean I've done several voidwatch groups myself in the last week - and they didn't take long to fill up, either. Is there a lot of good delve gear? Yes, but it is noticeably missing some key things (like extensive damage taken gear for example) that need to be found from other events.
Nevermind that there are still people building empys, still people doing +2 item/+1 item farms etc. It doesn't seem like there is any less of that (in particular) than there was before SoA. Has it fallen off a lot since it's heyday? Yeah but that started around the time
Also I don't think SE intended to "kill the big linkshells" - I think SE honestly thought people would, say, bring a BRD to hit brd procs in abyssea - not have black mages subbing brd - or bring a DRG to hit polearm procs - not have a ninja using a halloween item to hit them. It was the playerbase that did that, not SE - though their loot design facilitated that. From Delve, I'd say it looks like they may have learned from those mistakes.
