Players are able to reap two types of spoils in these trials—spoils from besting their foe, and spoils from surviving the battlefield. Below are examples of the former.

A predetermined amount of special rewards will be given to all those who participate in a successful incursion, including materials for reforging artifact armor to item level 119 and for enhancing relic, mythic, and empyrean weapons.

That could be cool if you get some kind of reward even if you time out, but I am sure there is a set amount of time you must be engaged for you to get credit. From the way they worded the reward exp seems like that might be it.

I think they mean just like the recent SKCNMs and AAs in that you get direct drops from the mob dying ("spoils from besting your foes") and a personal pool for winning the battle ("surviving the battlefield").

Only question is whether "predetermined amount" means set number of drop slots (i.e. AAs giving pluton/boulder/beit slots in personal pool, but random which ones you get in those slots), or actual fixed numbers of a specific item (like personal pool rem's tale drops, always same item and quantity for a particular difficulty fight).
