All I can say about Cait Sith is that it's about time. I'm really hoping it ends up being really useful, and not just a gimmicky avatar that's there for show but not anything else.

Someone had the idea of a Treasure Hunter avatar. Let's hope the devs payed attention. Cait Sith seems like the perfect avatar to have TH, either innately or with a blood pact.
With any luck players will have to complete WotG to access Cait Sith too. :)

The mini games in the glacier basically c0c* blocked me from WOTG. the mini games were a bit too frustrating for me. I hope not :p it might accelerate my retirement from ffxi.

Thinktank; if you look at the pattern with expansions and avatars; to get Odin and Alexander, you had to beat ToAU. So it's VERY likely mission progress, if not BEATING Wings of the Goddess, will be a requirement.

Luckily I have gotten Wings of the Goddess beaten long ago when it was announced, the minigames didn't give me a really huge problem. What made me want to throw things was the minigames to get Captain in ToAU; I ended up having a friend help me get them done >< GRR.

I'm curious if Nashmeira is going to have Ovjang and Mnejing. That picture is a tease :/ I can't wait to summon her because her attack animation in Heroine's Holdfast is hilarious.

Maybe they finally allowing skill ups like folks have been asking them too - it would be a marginally less tedious place to skill up than a lot of places.

While I can understand it not being a priority, as a system, it is perhaps too large to let it simply rot in obscurity. And I'd personally be more keen to update it than they have with all the HM BCs because it is something more casual friendly. Overall, there's a lot they can do to make participation feel worthwhile. Letting us learn the generals' WS would be a good start.

Wouldn't that be the reason, to make it not dead?

If they can maintain the things that made Campaign fun, but also make it worth doing for more people again, that would strike me as pretty awesome.

Well I repeated WoTG missions and mini games a few times on my mules but I have only ever got to Captain rank once for ToA and some of those mini games I find much more annoying.

Ten perfectly timed sit ups, ten perfectly timed press ups on top of trying to work out the spy from a group of rats can prove a bit too much at times.
All this on top of having to DC yourself if you fail too many times to avoid having to wait till the next game day to try again.

PS: Wotg Bastok questline "The truth lies hid" and following quests/missions will send you in and out of Castle Zvahl Keep (S) more times then I can think.
Yes it is quite annoying if you get it wrong but at least most jobs can now fight off any aggro you find there while trying to work out which imp is lying.
(At least there's only 3 NPC's to deal with on this quest, I think there's 12 on the mercernary rank quest.)

As for rock/paper/scissors mini game, well that appears in both expansions except WoTG version doesn't punish you with a next game day wait if you fail. (I think)
Although I think WoTG version, you just get one chance to obtain signatures with Mr "Roundlouts" (yes I misspelled his name) if you lose his game.

Are any of these mini games making you not want to go on with it?

Haha I wasn't saying it's a bad thing. I loved campaign. To see it relevant again would be awesome (new armor/weapons perhaps?), maybe even an upgrade on fiat lux(new armor again maybe). Regardless I'm curious to see what they do with it.

It would be neat if Rem's pages and voidwatch crafting materials were added to the Campaign treasure pool. That, plus allowing skillups, might get people to do it as a casual Records of Eminence spark and merit farming activity. Ore heck, even adding Campaign specific repeatable RoE quests.

After years of complaints about fishing, we have decided to correct the issue. Henceforth, the rate of fishing skill ups will be drastically reduced.

Hello, everyone!

A bit ago Producer Matsui commented that we will be making adjustments to campaign and I have some follow-up information to share about this.

In the March version update we will be making the below adjustments:

  • Skill-ups
It will now be possible to increase your skills when you possess allied tags and attack campaign monsters and fortifications.

  • Adjustments to the rise and fall of area influence
We will be raising the amount area influence is increased when the allied forces win a campaign battle. Additionally, we'll be lowering the amount area influence is decreased when the allied forces lose a campaign battle.

Through the above changes it will become easier to maintain area influence and it should also make it easier to avoid battles from occurring in the nations.

Well, a year ago (a little over) they mentioned two big changes.

1) Make skill matter more
2) Make the minigame so you only have to press the direction once, instead of holding it down. And make the rod jerk around less often so it's possible to react fast enough to each change. Well, if your skill is high enough anyway. They do want to make it harder for level 0 chars to catch level 110 fish it sounds like.

A short while later they mentioned a few other thoughts.
Such as maybe making ways to increase your fatigue limit. Like, items, or a "good" fish that will lower your fatigue, maybe even catching and killing monsters lowers your fatigue. And also making the current fishing rings more powerful.

They went silent for almost a full year after that. But recently they announced

Quote:

With these adjustments fishing skill will play a much larger role and the amount of elements that involve fighting with the fish will be reduced. I apologize for the inconveniences associated with the changes in fishing difficulty due to current play conditions, but we will be working hard to make improvements.

Sounds like just 1) and 2) made the cut.

Hopefully they don't limit it down to only being able to fish within a few levels of your skill reliably (like crafting recipes). If they leave the skill-up rates as they are and do that, it means any new fishermen or women will have to grind level upon level of worthless garbage fish in between the sweet spots of decent ones.

As it stands now, I don't see much point in most AH-able fish and would probably just go with the following path:

0-11 Moat Carp (this is worth AHing if not going for Lu quest)
11-20 Moat Carp / Forest Carp (same)
20-53 Shall Shells
53-86 Mercanbaligi
86-96 Dil and Mercanbaligi
96+ you can start to pick and choose

With the possibility of skill mattering a lot more, there will be people stuck for weeks of fishing up fish that vendor for 20gil a piece and that basically nobody wants to buy from the Auction House in any measurable amount. Those looking for Lu could fish moat/gold to 56 if gold remain extremely easy to catch, I guess.

Makes me glad to have 100 fishing... I really should uncap that and work on the last 10 levels.

I've always enjoyed Campaign. Happy to see these adjustments, as I still need plenty of skillups. Also hoping it'll make Fiat Lux more accessible...

[dev1183] New Text Command

The following text command will be introduced.
  • /lockstyle on/off

Using this command keeps the player's appearance the same even after changing equipment. However, it will be automatically disabled under the following conditions:
  • Zoning in to a different area
  • Equipping equipment that affects character motions, such as weapons
  • Being the recipient of an attack that removes one's equipment
  • Logging out

This command cannot be enabled while participating in the following content:
  • Monstrosity
  • Ballista
  • Brenner

* The command will remain in effect even when changing into equipment that covers multiple slots.

Well in an ideal world, fishing is good if you don't have much time to play but to make it pay it means spending long amounts of time hitting fatigue cap.
If you could catch the max amount of fish in 2hrs, it's job done and hopefully your arm won't be feeling like it's hanging off it's socket by the end of it.
(Especially the high lvl fish.)
So.. 200 fish in 2hrs? That would mean having to cut out that line-snapping stuff and monsters eating your bait malarly!
I can't see them implementing my system but it would make it more interesting for the player.

And all because people started complaining about lack of participation from lowbie lvl players afking on forts led to the downfall of offensive battles.
Everone did those battles till they nerfed it. :(

Yeah all they had to do was implement a penalty for jobs under a certain level and that would have curbed that behavior -_-
