Just for fun: If your character could travel in timeFollow

I don't mean Cavernous Maws either. What if you could send your character to a previous version with all your gear, levels, skills, etc You're still bound by how the zones are set up in that period in time (Capped CoP, Old Dynamis etc.) What would you do? You have access to your RoE menu and can earn sparks, just wouldn't be able to spend them quite yet. Only party leaders can set level sync, so you have this available as long as you're party leader.

Would you use your powers for good or evil?

I'd send my level 99 relic horn /empy harp bard back in time to Old Dynamis to help fight Dynamis Lord.

Since none of the gear would do me any good, I'd sit in town and AFK whenever possible, just to read the shouts.

Why wouldn't your gear do any good? It's not like Terminator rules so you wouldn't go back in time naked.

I'd probably would want to go /anon and have level 75 gear that had already been introduced. Parser tests may give me away but people would have to really be looking for it.

I'd send my Lv121 SMN back in time to solo stuff for people, watch them freak out at 35k Flaming Crush on Dynamis Lord, or slam AV with Astral Conduit (unfortunately can't solo AV, takes at least 2 or 3 modern SMNs to do that).

I like that... but I'd go one step further. I'd dig my assault jerkin and o-hat out of storage, plus one of those many, many lances stored on mules, put on /anon and stop that whole thing where people-said-that-lol-stuff-about-us-dragoons-to-the-point-where-a-few-sites-like-this-had-to-put-in-filters from ever happening.

That, or I'd spend my time MPKing all the RMT scum who swarmed around every NM pop.

I'd roam the world as a BST/WHM, raising people, camping NMs, selling their drops and giving gil to new players

I'd spend some time gathering materials that were extremely rare and valuable back then (V.claw, D.ingot, Kirin's Osode, etc) before going to the past, and then selling them off to make a fortune which I'd then return to the present with to buy all the Plutons, Beitetsu, etc I could get my hands on.

We're talking about going back to Optical Hats and Peacock Charms. I said "the" gear wouldn't be any good, not "my" gear wouldn't be any good.

Vlor's probably got the best idea though. Common items now that people drop used to be worth hundreds of thousands. Other than that, the game was probably more drop-driven back then than it is now, so there wouldn't be a whole lot to do once the initial rush of steamrolling monsters in front of people died down.

I think the thought experiment stipulated you'd get to keep your gear today ^^

You get to keep all of your gear.

If a target that exists now also existed in the past, then you'll be able to interact with it in the same way you can now. For example: I think it was possible to interact with the Banishing Gates even before the key item was introduced. Even though coding would say otherwise, logic would dictate that the Gates were always able to be opened with the weighted rocks, you just never were able to because you never had them.

With that being said, be careful with your storage slips and AF key item slips. If the NPC isn't there, you may not be able to retrieve them. And be sure to stock up on Imperial Bronze Coins in case you need to access your Mog Locker.

Edit:
I guess this would mean Trail Markings would interact with a Prismatic Hourglass to enter solo whenever I want. And no way I could bring a party either because they can't create Perpetual Hourglasses.

I want to go back in time to tell myself that it was no big deal that I never got a pair of Leaping Lizzy boots...

I would go back to when people started getting upset that Cait Sith wasn't in the game yet, when SE said that it would be added. I would find the most popular pet enabled area I could and sit there on SMN with Cait Sith standing next to me. Let people take screenshots, and watch the community rage grow even more. That would provide some fun entertainment.

I would go back in time as an ilevel Red Mage. Because old content's laughable with new gear, people back then would revere me, and would seek to emulate me.

Fast forward. The year is 2014. Everyone mains Red Mage, and the only reason people level other jobs is to use them as sub jobs. Nobody is left out of parties, because there are no parties, only soloing Red Mages. Adoulin is filled with people scorned by the Red Mage majority for not being Red Mages.

Farm the various sea pops as my DRK, and once I have a full set, wait till a major LS is starting their run, and while they prepare, pop and kill the NMs, (and hope they dont steal my goldfish clone lol). I would possibly borrow a WHM to outside heal (maybe one of the ones that can't get a level up party due to everyone doing TP burns >.> <.<, yes I am still bitter even after all these years) during the JoL/AV fight.

I would also do the same with various other popped NMs, though only if its after the adjustments for the way the NMs pop, im not evil enough to go steal an ulli or a land god from back in their once a day repop days, though I might sell my service as a DD to linkshells that need items (after making sure they don't use bots, though that might be difficult given the number of LS leaders that received the banhammer after SE took out a major bot, which itself was after the salvage dupe banhammer, which probably took out a large number of people using payed for bots as well) after earning a reputation as being able to solo endgame megabosses.

Not sure if I would need to dynamis for currency drops if i was able to sell my DD abilities (because even without trust magic, ilevel 117 gear makes 75 cap era gear a joke), but I guess that I could help with dynamis lords for a cut of the currency, as killing it in seconds would give the level 75s more time to farm.

As a BST, I would definitely go back to 2005, and amaze every peoples. Imagine the response of any DD in 2004 to a jug pet that can deal 15k damage in a few seconds (with Unleash). I can hear their screams from here.

I would love to have gate guard duty again in Valkurm, or be a hero BST taking care of trains in the Crawler's Nest. Of everything I miss about the old days, being able to help out hordes of FNGs was the absolute best part.
