Windows 8.1 + FFXI :: Final Fantasy XI

Dos anybody know what the situation is currently, installing and running ffxi on a windows 8.1 OS. I have seen some older posts saying there is a problem but nothing in the last 6 - 8 months. Has there been a fix or is Win 8.1 still a problem ? I have all my original discs since I started playing on pc in 2003 but I had decided to just buy an ultimate seekers edition download from Amazon. But that's a waste of money if its not going to run on Win 8.1

Download the Vista/Windows 7 version of PlayOnline and use that instead of the version that comes with the discs. FFXI should run fine on Windows 8.

Also; I found this out on bg, but make sure you have the direct x rollup and enable DirectPlay under legacy features in your control panel before you even try to install. It will save you a lot of cussing if you check that right now. ^^
