Greetings,

I used to play on Pademonium and Odin long long ago...I quit shortly after ToAU was released. I keep up on the forums every once in a while and there seems to have been many changes, in particular, the rise of the level cap.

I won't reminisce a lot here, but do people still level up through Valkurm Dunes, Qufim(sp?) Island and Crawlers Nest? Or do people still do Dynamis events like Windurst/Jeuno? Are professions still tedious? Do you still have to get to level 20 (I think it was) before you can ride a Chocobo? I had a love/hate relationship with FFXI, I loved the interaction of being in a party with several people, but hated how long it took to get into a good group, unless I played BRD or RDM.

Thanks.

With Trust you can solo to 30 then go to Abyssea (fast route), or just solo to 99 (most jobs can now with relative ease). Dynamis is soloable at 99 on many jobs now.

The good thing is that soloing is much more feasible now so you can enjoy at your own pace. You aren't relying on the last slot opening up in the Dunes party. You won't get into parties outside of Abyssea really.

There are new systems in place that mean you could solo your first job to 99 with some exceptions to completing Genkai (level cap quests).
That's only if you wanted to solo that is but I don't know of many people who party at lower levels anymore. ;)
As gaining exp was much slower then it was in the past, it was handy at certain key points to stop levelling to get those important key quests and missions done.
*Subjob quests
*Chocobo
*Airship (starter towns/Kazham/ferry to whitegate)
*Level caps

No one bothers with Kazham anymore so I wouldn't put that on your list of high priority things to do these days. No one goes to the jungles to exp. I think most new players only go there after they get to 99 anyway and want to unlock SAM or something when going to Norg.

Make sure you unlock Records of Eminence quests: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Records_of_Eminence

And Trust Magic: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Trust

Make sure you talk to Joachim in Port Jeuno as soon as you hit 30, and start voidwatch as soon as you qualify: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category:Voidwatch

Both events have KIs that stack up over time, so sooner you get them rolling, less issue you'll have getting locked out of the content later.

If the abyssea event is going on now, check the blue chest beside Horst in Port Jeuno to get some stuff to get you started in abyssea down the line.

I just came back tonight too. I haven't bought the latest expansion, but even so I am having a blast. I did some RoE up in sky and reading this I guess I should start getting some trust npcs. I figured I would only play with my brother or a friend which makes trusts less useful (I think?), but can't hurt and if nothing else its just cool!

You'll probably find that more people are soloing+3 Trusts than in a party nowadays. When on my 99 MNK, I like Joachim (BRD) and 2 DD's (between Tenzen for SC, Naja just because and even the cat dude, but can't remember his name) because I usually just go /DNC when soloing. If you need a healer, I use Kupipi because I can't get the other WHM that can cast haste... but she works well on healing and debuffing (paralyze and slow).
