... if they'd only add the one feature that I *really* wanted, then I would never even need to use "You-Know-What".

Please, SE... it is time.

Please give us Borderless Window so that we can run "Full-Screen" but still alt-tab. The vast majority of PC games out there already have this. It is time for us to get it too.

Technically, all they're doing is making data already fed to us visible since before they stated they only didn't due to the UI clutter (especially the older UI.)

Pretty sure they'll get around to it since they seem to be going back into the core game.

I wasn't aware the UI was really changed?

Looks the same to me as it always did. Unless there's some option I forgot/didn't notice?

They're working on a Windows only (iirc) UI so it seems like they're going back and changing as much of the core as they can to work with it, for example seeing our extra params more than likely wasn't done on a whim lol. It's been awhile since we got word on the UI though.

I was gonna say, I thought I remembered something about a "New UI" but that was a year+ ago.... and I checked back to the forums a few times, found out it still wasn't implemented... and then forgot about it. Wound up resubbing a little while ago (not too long after the Trusts were introduced) and I forgot about the "New UI" until you mentioned it just now.

But yeah I wonder what's taking so long with it?

I think the new UI has been more an incremental thing, like resizing the chat log in different ways, the new macro bars, some icons, and more minor things like listing atk/def over 999. A total revamp toward something more mainstream like XIV's HUD doesn't seem likely to me.

They had a preview of the new UI and it was ugly as hell. I think the feedback was pretty negative from most of us. Maybe they went back to the drawing board.

Users of FF14 got lucky. 1.0 had the same clunky outboard config this game has, and SE even went so far as to go after the person who created a windower for 14. Fortunately for us, they messed 1.0 so bad their only choice was cancelling the game or going back and doing it right.

This game could prosper for another decade or two if SE were willing to do a 100% graphical overhaul for FFXI like they have done for I-X (oO so XI should be next...) then give it a little advertisement campaign alongside an addition to its name like 'Final Fantasy XI - The Next Generation' at the new graphical launch and BAM we have this game looking as good as XIV. If populations were to then start growing SE could plan future expansions and level cap rises.

(a lot of if's and buts, and could be's there) but its not like SE to let a game decline without doing absolutely everything in their power to make it last.

Yes. I don't know at this point SE would want to make the effort, but it would be worth it for those who still love 11 in spite of 14's better interface and perhaps new users as well. I know the reason I started playing WOW and other games had more to do with the crappy windowing and poor graphics than gameplay. Believe it or not, the technical stuff matters.

Best one could hope for is higher quality textures. I just don't see a total engine overhaul happening. As is, the game is kind of beastly on required HD space for its age and something like this would surely add a few gigs on top.

Quite honestly I could. They stated XI was built from the ground up on a custom engine, so moving it to the Luminous Spinoff they made for XIV is more than feasible, it's just if it'd be profitable is the thing...but I don't think we'd really want to see XI also becoming yet another WoW wannabe.

(And yes Yoshida did state he built ARR to be like WoW for the JP audiences)

The game looks fine. I just wish it was better optimized. Even as ancient as it is I get weird graphical things going on.

Looks fine for its age, yeah..but it could look better and the engine was more for optimization rather than graphics - ARR's graphics were tone down even. Moving over to that engine would do wonders for XI honestly and in all reality what they should have done while maintaining some assets from XIV 1.0.

You do know you cant just "move over" to another engine. They would literally have to remake the game in that engine, remake every individual character (with full history) including those that haven't been used in ages, not to mention that the complex spaghetti code would mean that some features could easily take weeks to replicate properly from the ground up in a new engine.

Would you have to remake the interface and game mechanics if the only thing you wanted to do was bring XI into next gen graphics. One of the reasons it still looks decent is because SE have always made their games look beautiful, so it would of looked fantastic back in 02/03. (Sorry I don't know a lot about programming so not sure how making the game look beautiful again would co-inside with gameplay/interfaces etc).

IF it was to get a re-release for graphics only then a new disc can be released ad it would give current players the 'grand' gift, it would bring old players back, and if it was to be 'FFXI Revisited' then new reviews, new press, and new advertising would start a next gen population for current 14-24 year olds. Would be win/win imo considering how great the game is and the content. Current EG would need some slight changes though to allow for 75 content and abyssea content to be enjoyed to the max.

SE have spent more time on this game than any other and the shell is there to make the game endure another decade, especially as most MMO's are PC based now anyway.
