For people thinking about returning to FFXIFollow

I returned 4days ago, a random person asked if I wanted help with the LB99 quest (its the only semi-hard one to do since the maat LB quest but easier than maat), I got the stone from just having logged in for 1day (you earn points for item from logging in on a daily basis), he had a tail, we went and 2 mnks just 100fisted him down. Was quick and easy.

Catching up on gear was a main worry, I haven't even got SoA yet and my jobs were at abyssea level equip but today I was shown Sparks of Reminance, I completed loads just from having done the quests already, then joined an abyssea party to level Sam from 90-99 + 30mp's, I then had enough sparks for a full set of sparks armor for my MNK and the Eminence bagnakhs. The look is diabolical but the stats are amazing and will allow me to now jump straight into EG for ilevel 119gear without feeling gimp in any way. Trust magic is also a great addition, I've just about gathered all the assist-able NPC's up so I'm looking forward to soloing sky/sea gods, limbus, and dyna etc.

So for anyone returning you can easily level to 99, then easily earn sparks to gear your job(s) so you can dive straight into EG activity without feeling gimp. The stats on them are amazing but general due to multiple jobs being able to use the equipment, meaning tonnes of STR/DEX/VIT/AGL/INT/MND/CHR/Eva/Meva/Mdef/Haste/Acc/Att, just nothing job specific so the gear lacks things like STP for a SAM, SB for a MNK, -PDT for a PLD, MAB for a COR or job specific ability or trait augments meaning there is lots of motivation to take part in current EG events.

Sparks isn't an EG event, its something that you can earn in the background of daily vanadiel life but they allow you to push your job up to iLevel117 equipment and then the games your oyster!

If you dual wield two 117 weapons and with the right atmas you can rack up a load of sparks really quickly in abyssea doing the 500+ damage quest. This lets you then build reforged AF/AF2, I've got 5/5 THF AF+1 and AF2+1 feet plus several 109/119 pieces for other jobs and have yet to step foot into a new battlefield. I've been having limited success soloing and duoing outside delve NM's with this gear letting me build some Bokwus/Manibozho stuff, the only thing I'm struggling for is a 119 weapon.

Sparks plus the recent quality of life adjustments have really opened up the game as you say, I love the game how it is now, I only fear it may be a double edged sword as I am chewing through content as a scary rate =)

Can you play as a tank these days without having a relic?

I love the idea of 117 gear being so easy to get...

The only thing is I wish the content that I never got to do was a bit easier to learn how to do, lol.

I've found guides on, say, FFXIclopedia, etc, but.... they just sound so... confusing. But perhaps when I get up there and start trying to do this stuff, hopefully it starts making sense.

Sparks gear being 117 is a bit deceptive. It's set that way to get the most out of Trusts (which have their own issues), but the starts on the Sparks gear itself is maybe closer to the 110-113 range. Regardless, it is indeed a phenomenal system for helping people at least get somewhat current, but there are still significant grinds when it comes to getting Delve KIs and plasm to buy things there.

As for tanking, I'm probably going to say yes, you'll probably want an Ochain and/or Aegis. The weapon itself isn't such a big deal since CDC can be learned while Atonement and KotR are kinda meh. Though I haven't checked in to see how Atonement's enmity scaled with recent WS adjustments, but I think I recall it still being pretty blah for actual damage. You'll certainly want newer gear to tank the new mobs, though, which probably means groups won't be taking a fresh PLD over more established ones. So, this likely means having to gear up another job first, possibly playing support via BRD or WHM. Yeah, I know, sucks if it's not your jam.

I plan on helping my LS (which took me on even though they have players with multiple relics) as a COR/RDM in a support/QD roll (excuse the pun). All the AGL gear & MAB gear is nice along with a high damage gun & bullet for QD, the rest would be rolling along with haste casting, throwing the occoasional emergency cure etc. I can't see them wanting me on MNK/NIN/SAM when they will have their own well geared versions.

I don't really know how, but I had a various selection of Spark quests set with about 10k already, I then decided to solo a Dyna bastok on mnk/dnc (got tonnes of lolguard skill-ups) and ended it with 50k/50k sparks. Maybe because I was dealing dmg, taking dmg, curing myself, and clocking up enemy kills but it made me wonder if I wasted many sparks.

It is a good system, I will be spamming abyssea parties and dyna with mnk and clocking up Sparks and merit points to get all be basic temple & corsair's armor upgraded then I'll get the 8 records for the ilevel119 gear and THEN I'll probably burnt out of the game again and have to quit for another 3 years. (It was nice doing a frog party the other day, exp was the same, but it does kind of remind you abyssea exp is all the same, looking at a different type of mob only satisfy's the want for a change for about 15minutes.

Sparks alone won't get you to 119 gear. Don't forget you'll need several million gil per piece if you have to buy the other items

Sparks gear also makes it a joke to farm a few million gil if you need it. I only go after it when I want it and salvage/dynamis easily covers what I need just for upgrade mats.

I've played since '05 but with gaps and yes, compared to the game up until COP or perhaps TOAU, later 'battle'' content is hopelessly confusing .. it's typical SE over-convolution and Aby is probably the worst culprit for arcane mechanics which every newbie is expected to know without asking or risk being kicked, though SoA is also riddled with mechanics that are plain unintuitive.

Yes, you can 'research' it but frankly the 'guides' leave many pitfalls to the newbie not mentioned, and XI's 'end game' community isn't best known for its tolerance of 'newbs' at times.

HPBs are the currency for the Geo and Run Ergon weapons. If you haven't started either of these quests and gotten to the point of trading in HPBs, then she/the Leafkin won't take them. What were you trying to spend them on?
