First off, if you have more than 5 99 jobs atm (or are really ****) I feel sorry for you and I hope you can work it out without maxing all the sets (unlikely) or resorting to third party tools (more likely if you have that many 99 jobs that you actually play).

Anyway, for me as a non windower user, this is a wonder. Before, the macro limits were driving. me. crazy. when it came to equip swapping. I had to hit 3 macros to cure, for instance.

Now? One and done. For those of us who never used spellcast, this is a very nice thing to have finally been added; basically it's FREAKING FINALLY. I'll be tweaking more now that I got it functional, but haven't hard put it though its paces yet. I'll post something here once i have. ^^

Basically, from what I've seen, it allows you to swap out anywhere from 1 to all 16 pieces of gear in a single macro line, once you get it set up the way you want.

The Patch Notes on the Official Website offers several screenshots as to how the system works; you simply put a red "X" on the slot if you want that piece of gear to be unequipped entirely, leave it blank if you want the macro to not change that piece at all, or place a piece in that slot if you want the macro to change equipment.

Sounds pretty simple and straightforward.

For example, if you wanted to swap out just your staves, you'd leave all the boxes blank, and put the staff you want (say, a Dark Staff for a resting macro) in the Main Weapon slot. The system will only swap your staff.

If, for some odd reason, you wanted to change your weapon but, say, unequip your helmet (dunno why you'd wanna do this, but I'm just talking theoretically here), you'd set it up with the new weapon in the main slot, and a red X in the Helmet slot.

The macro itself is fairly straightforward, IIRC it is something like /equipset x and there's a switch for whether or not you want the results shown in the chat window (defaults to none). The only problem I cay see, is limited numbers of equipment sets that you can set, as maryadavies said, hopefully you're not the kinda dude with lots of Lv99 jobs that needs to swap out equipment for everything.

The nice thing about it, is it works on both Inventory and Mog Wardrobe gear, so that's up to 160 available storage space for all this gear you're swapping around.

I'm sure another poster with more experience can correct/clear up/add to anything I said here.

They have said they hope to add more sets, they started with 20 to make sure it didn't explode the servers or anything. Unfortunately cannot currently save sets to your POL profile so currently you'll have to set them up manually if you swap machines at all.

I dig it. It's a great feature. Haven't had much of a chance to play since the update but hoping to make my bard better tonight!

Ahh, right.

Now I remember they did say that.

I'm probably going to end up making a Warp Ring and XP Ring Macro. Since you have to have those in your inventory and I want the real rings in Wardrobe, equipping a ring to use it is a bit annoying because you gotta do the whole "Inventory Options" stuff to swap. It'd be much easier with a single button press, use, then single button press to go back to it.

Should be easy since the 2 highest level jobs I have both use Rajas Ring for now, lol.

I just came back after a few months break and I'm really loving this feature. It's very intuitive- you open 1 of 20 available set slots and a equip menu pops up just like you're equipping your character normally. Plug in exactly what you want that set to look like. Then you need to call that equip set from one of your normal macros with the /equipset command. So you still have only 6 lines in your macros, but now you only need to use 1 line to call that entire equip set to change everything you're wearing. Then you still have 5 lines to further tweak the macro or add actions (like you did prior to equip sets).

Just want to add that the sets by default are named Set0xx. xx being 01-20. The first 0 implies they eventually plan on making hundred(s) of sets available. So that's a very good sign.

In programming, I believe that's called Allocation.

When you don't know how high you're going to make a number go, you pull a generous figure out of your rear and stick it in there to make sure that any number that goes there will fit. For example, if you want to make an RPG and you're not sure how the tuning/stat balancing will go, and you're designing the UI, and you get down to the HP/MP meters... you don't know if you want 4-digit numbers yet, but maybe? Then you probably want to design the UI to make sure 4 digits will fit, even if you're not sure if you're going that high. Nothing looks more lazy/shoddy than numbers clipping through the other UI elements, lol. I've seen indie games where there's a 5-digit number in a place only 4 digits will physically fit in the UI and the 5th digit is clipping into the UI element's border (or it clips into the meter, or some other text, or some other numbers etc etc). That's just lazy design.

Or when you're defining variables, you need to know how big you want the make the number so you're not wasting resources by defining variables larger than they need to be (or, worse, the game either crashes when the variable overflows, or the variable becomes capped at that value that is too easy to reach which I feel is the case with RoE Sparks, 50k cap is just ridiculous).

This is by no means a "sign" or "proof" that they intend to go 100+ with the Equipment Sets, they just left that extra digit in the UI just in case they do. They could, sure. But it depends on server load, etc as said above. It'd be awesome, sure. Just don't make that into an expectation, TBH.

I am going to make it an expectation based on this:

We added a new feature known as "Equipment Sets" that allows you to simultaneously change all of your equipment at once.

You can combine equipment just like you would via the normal equipment window and save up to 20 sets.

We are planning to expand the number of sets that can be saved to 100 after the next version update.

I am really loving these equipsets so far! Can't wait for more of them! 20 is barely enough for one job.

Perg; I'm managing with 5 jobs, it takes some clever macroing and since I have several mage jobs, sharing of a set or two between jobs, but you can do it.

I feel sorry for anyone who's really hardcore/used to spellcast or plays more jobs than I do though.

I definitely can't pull that off, my jobs are too different (WHM, SMN, DRK). Also definitely hardcore, though I don't have many jobs, I have essentially every single piece of equip that exists for WHM & SMN so my macros are pretty bulky. My SMN has 6 different idle builds for example, and I use 4 of them regularly. Even the cure builds are totally different between WHM & SMN, I think it shares maybe 3 or 4 pieces between the two. Too much gear!! ; ;
