If you find communal activities to be more to your liking, you'll want to take a look at the new Unity Concord system and the ability to hire an NPC to distribute linkpearls for you. Also hot off the presses are new rankings for Monster Rearing and some additional job adjustments.

Get your hard hats ready!

[dev1237] Unity Concord

  • A New System, Unity Concord, Will Be Added
  • What is Unity Concord?
Unity Concord is a new system devised and promulgated by the Adventurers’ Mutual Aid Network (A.M.A.N.) Pleased with the rousing success of the recently introduced Records of Eminence, A.M.A.N. has pledged to build upon their successes and take the next step toward bringing adventurers closer together.

  • Unities: New NPC-Run Factions
The main attractions of Unity Concord are organizations known as “Unities.” There are multiple Unities, each run by one of Vana’diel’s more popular personages. Players are able to select a Unity they would like to join to further that leader’s cause.
Screenshot

  • Participating in a Unity
A.M.A.N. guides serve as intermediaries for welcoming willing adventurers into a Unity’s fold. Though a player may only belong to one Unity at a time, it is possible to switch partway. However, players are unable to change their Unity until at least twenty-four hours (Earth time) have passed after joining.

  • Unity Chat
Chat channels unique to each Unity have been set up to foster communication between unity members, enabling them not only to meet up with each other easier, but also to help them make new friends.
Screenshot

  • Unity Objectives
New Records of Eminence objectives will be added to help facilitate Unity activities. Some of these objectives are shared between Unities, while others are exclusive. There is also a third type of objective, called “Wanted” objectives, which task a player with vanquishing specific notorious monsters.
Screenshot

Screenshot

  • Wanted Battles
Monsters vanquished during the course of Wanted battles provide the victors with equipment and other precious rewards. Participating in such battles comes at a cost, however—a currency known as Unity accolades.

  • Unity Accolades
Accolades can be earned by completing Unity-based Records of Eminence objectives. A small amount can be earned from non-Unity objectives and defeating certain monsters. The accolades can be used in a variety of ways, from participating in the Wanted battles described above to purchasing items, enhancing equipment found in Wanted battles, teleporting to Wanted battle staging areas, and more.

  • Unity Rankings
Unity rankings are tabulated and made public once per week (Earth time), with the order being decided based on how many points a unity’s members have earned that week. At higher rankings, equipment earned from Wanted battles increases in strength, so gather Unity members together and aim for even greater heights.
Screenshot

* Unity Concord is scheduled to have new systems and content added in subsequent version updates.

Unity already looks neat. But I question how it'll all work out. Seeing how you might want everyone to be in the same unity for a major chat channel, but then if the rewards for points is significant you'll have people switching around to get their best chance at a top rank. Guess we'll see just how it works out on the fine details and what the community does...

The main thing that worries me, is the part about NMs being wanted by Unities.

I can't see camping random NMs as fun unless they are the kind you can pop from ???s, or the kind you can spawn using FoV/GoV tabs.

It wasn't fun when the drops were valuable, and I can't see it being fun today.

They talk about getting warps to BCNMs for the "wanted" content so it sounds like it will be popped.

Wow, those are some nice changes, they both make the job more playable.

The Bestial Loyalty thing is pretty awesome provided the BST doesn't zone a lot (though I think everyone would have liked to see it be a 10 minute ability instead of 20). Would still also like to see an introduction of some basic "infinate" use jugs (even if they aren't at capped iLVL) for times when you know you will be zoning a lot (for the unknowing; your pet disappears when you zone and it costs you the jug, which can often be quite expensive for events that require frequent zoning).

Or they could have it so that if you zone while the pet is alive, it resets the cooldown?

That way if you get the thing killed, you still have the 20min cooldown which is intended but if you zone and the thing is alive, it won't penalize you for that.

Or, Idea #2, casting it does not incur the cooldown. The cooldown is incurred when the pet is killed?

[dev1240] Linkshell Concierges

  • New NPCs known as Linkshell Concierges will be added.

Screenshot

  • Linkshell Concierges
Linkshell concierges are NPCs that match linkshells looking for players with players looking for linkshells. Any player with a linkshell or pearlsack may give linkpearls to the concierge to hand out. Players looking for a linkshell may then elect to receive one such linkpearl of their choosing.

  • Linkshell Concierge Locations and Functions
Linkshell concierge locations and the style of linkshell they are in charge of are as follows.

Location Style
Western Adoulin (H-12) Casual battle content
Western Adoulin (H-12) Assisting each other
Eastern Adoulin (G-10) Hard-core battle content
Eastern Adoulin (G-10) Everything
Ru’Lude Gardens (G-9) Hard-core battle content
Ru’Lude Gardens (G-9) Assisting each other
Ru’Lude Gardens (G-9) Synthesis and trading
Aht Urhgan Whitegate (H-9)	Vanquishing HNMs
Southern San d’Oria (G-10)	Everything
Southern San d’Oria (G-10)	Meet new players
Bastok Markets (F-9) Everything
Bastok Markets (F-9) Meet new players
Windurst Woods (H-10) Everything
Windurst Woods (H-10) Meet new players

* New styles and NPCs may be added after the November version update as needed.

  • Distributing Linkpearls
Speak to a linkshell concierge while equipped with a linkpearl or pearlsack and select “I’d like to handout linkpearls.” Answer a brief questionnaire with the following information and pay a 500 gil fee to have the concierge distribute linkpearls for you.
  • Language (JP, EN, other)
  • Number of applicants desired (1-10)
  • Main days of activity (Weekdays, weekends, specific days, every day)
  • Time zone (JST, PST/PDT, GMT, no setting)
  • Main time of activity (morning, afternoon, evening, night, wee hours of the morning)

Additionally, equipping a linkpearl and pearl sack, selecting “show me recruiting linkshells,” and picking the corresponding linkshell from the list will cancel that particular registration.

* A linkshell may only be registered once per concierge.
* A particular concierge can only register up to sixteen linkshells at a time. New registrations will push existing ones off the list in order of oldest to newest.
* Maintenance and area restarts will delete all registrations from the corresponding concierges.

  • Receiving a Linkpearl
Speak to a linkshell concierge and select “Show me recruiting linkshells” to display a list available linkshells. Check the list of parameters the registrant has set and choose your desired linkshell.

* Players may only receive one linkpearl per Vana’diel day.

First: Grats on the promotion Szabo!

Second: This LS thing looks interesting but the whole "new LSes will bump old ones off" makes me wonder how useful it will be.

Third: Derp, I didn't see how many there were. That may help. Though "casual battle content" should get a couple more NPCs.

Good S/E Dev: Let's make it so people can publicly market linkshells without having to /shout spam for weeks on end until inevitably stagnating because they don't want to shout anymore.

Bad S/E Dev: Yes, but lets make it as convoluted as possible, with different NPCs that they have to use for different things, stagger those NPCs all over vanadiel in a no-rhyme-nor-reason pattern, and for good measure throw a superfluously ominous limit to those who can use them without ******** with other peoples' efforts so no ones efforts are ever 'really' safe and sound.

ehh, I still play BST a lot, and although I'm always happy to have more jug pets to choose from the other two changes are of little value. Jugs are cheap and I like to burn through them vs pet food since they are cheaper than pet food in many cases, so bestial loyalty will be meh unless they are adding some kind of high end jug that is rare ex, or crazy expensive. The ready move timer thing is a joke though, tp is not the problem, its the ready move timer... I can only spam things that require 1 charge and I still have to sit and wait for charges once I have 1000 tp sometimes. If I need three charges for say the useful slug tp moves, **** it, I don't have time to wait 3 minutes for the three charges. This could have been useful if it were the other way around, that you could use a tp move anytime you had tp and remove the stupid "you need three charges for certain tp moves" that are actually worse than most of the 1 charge moves...

yeah I agree with Rex the BST changes are a sop at best. I mean yeah will be nice to be able to just grab a couple of the more expensive jugs and stretch them out

but the second change is only useful insofar as pet accuracy is so bad you often can't get TP on bigger monsters so.. yay, 1000-2000 damage every minute or so? in total pretty much? Ugh.

I agree that having it the other way around would be more useful for the vast majority of the time a person is playing BST.

Anyway, BST is screwed until SE gets their head out of their ***** and recognizes that a DD that deals 50% less damage than other DDs NEEDS A SERIOUS DAMAGE BOOST. I mean, ugh, SAMs can pump out 10K+ WS like it is going out of style and they won't give us native dual weild? Or a SERIOUS accuracy and attack boost trait for us and our pets? or Weaponskills that do damage comparable to other DDs? We're like a gimp war with a gimp NPC friend... none of this changes that.

Details on the Upcoming Version Update!

Hello, adventurers of Vana’diel! Matsui here.

I’d like to give you all a preview of the content slated for the November version update.

The upcoming version update welcomes the epic conclusion to the Seekers of Adoulin storyline.

The event team has poured all their energy into creating amazing cutscenes for you all to enjoy, and they truly went all out and did some special things for Arciela’s expressions. Additionally, the ending music is a very fitting song that was created by Naoshi Mizuta. I hope you all check out the conclusion to this magnificent storyline!

We’ll also be continuing to add content and quests for Seekers of Adoulin, even after the conclusion, so you can all enjoy the storyline even more!

Another large element we are adding in the November version update is the “Unity Concord” system.

For Unity we are aiming to create something that is stronger than the nations you belong to and a bit looser of a connection than what you have with linkshells. We want this to be something that players can use to play with and communicate with others.

As a part of this new feature, we will be implementing a new battle system known as “Wanted” where you can fight against high-tier versions of existing NMs, and we will also be adding Unity-related objectives to Records of Eminence. Moving forward we’ll continue to add various new elements, and we are looking forward to receiving your feedback.

Additionally, as another way to foster our community, we’ve created the “Linkshell Concierge”. This is a new system where an NPC will distribute linkpearls for you, and we hope it comes into good use for invigorating existing linkshells. We’ll be looking forward to your feedback on this as well!

In addition to all of the things I’ve mentioned thus far, we will also be adding NMs to certain Adoulin areas, unlocking rank 2 for Monster Rearing, adjusting both beastmaster and summoner, and much, much more.

Speaking of all of this content, we’ve put together a trailer to show it all off. We even used a portion of the Seekers of Adoulin ending song during the mission segment, so please be sure to take a look.

Finally, I have an announcement.
As many of you who frequent PlayOnline.com may have already seen, from Tuesday, November 11 (JST) we will be holding the Return Home to Vana’diel Campaign once again, as well as various other special campaigns. We’ve prepared a whole line of campaigns so that players who are returning can join up with the current adventurers and have a good time. I hope you and your friends enjoy adventuring in Vana’diel!

Among the items scheduled for implementation with this version update, there are still some that are currently in testing. Please keep in mind that we may remove certain items from this implementation list in the event that bugs take an unintentionally long time to fix or balancing issues occur during the development process.

The problem I can see is that there is a significant difference between how monsters scale and players scale. Without completely overhauling the whole system, I don't see a way to fix BST on bigger monsters without breaking them on smaller ones. I mean BST already dominates any environment where their pet outlevels the native ecosystem, even with Trust NPCs in the game. I agree that some native pet ACC or pet ATT boost traits might go a long way, but I think SE has been very careful because if they go too far . . .
