Returning and gearing.Follow

I just joined up again with the return campaign, had left prior to Adoulin releasing. Anyhow, started getting some sparks and was wondering how to start gearing now. I had full AF3 on most my mains, but no actual Empys or Relics. Are you better off just getting a full set of basic sparks gear in every slot, or is some of the older stuff still relevant?

Mostly debating between BST, PUP or NIN at this point, just want to solo what I can from ToAU, WotG and Adoulin story wise.
