I know this sounds redundant, but its been a long time since I've played, so I wanted to get some input from the masters.
White Mage is still the best support job for a party, right? By support I mean backline stuff... healing, buffing, debuffing. I know there's talk of Scholar and Red Mage, but White Mage is still king in this category, right?

Honestly if you want a guaranteed group spot:

Whm / geo / bard

I dont want to say level all 3, but if you do, you will never be waiting for a group. The gear requirements definitely make it so bard is the quickest/easiest to gear, as you can get a 3 song instrument relatively easy, the rest isnt to hard to get.

I would say whm and geo are about even as far as gear requirements, but both become useful very quickly.

Honestly there are no support jobs to avoid. Cor is golden, rdm and sch are still useable for their stun abilities.

GEO's taken SCH's job and can provide incredibly powerful undispellable/unresistable buffs/debuffs. It's almost certainly the buffer king right now.

I'd make a slight distinction between healer and buffer/support, though WHM certainly does both. BRD and GEO are both superb buff/debuffers. WHM's main job is to keep people alive with cures and status removal/prevention. Yes WHM has good buffs too but cure bombs are still their bread and butter. Any of them will pretty much guarantee you a spot in endgame activities as long as you're competent and averagely geared.

In terms of pure buffing, brd and geo are the kings of aoe buffs that are quite potent. For single target buffs, RDM is better than either SCH or WHM due to tier II buffs as well as enhanced duration of buffs with composure. SCH or WHM are generally more preferred because they have better tools to assist with healing as well such as aurorastorm and light arts for SCH and cure V and afflatus stances for WHM.

I wouldn't say GEO is much harder to get endgame ready than BRD, but it'll certainly be more costly. Hardest part is just leveling Geomancy and Handbell at a respectable pace, whereas BRDs can at least Threnody spam worms to get their skills up. I'd probably say GEO winds up being more "fun" since you won't have to deal with the asinine party swap meta that's persisted over the years for BRD.

Geo can do this as well by casting Geo-Poison on worms over and over.
