Hello Darlings Balpheron from Ragnarok here.

Mostly Id like to know if some of my biggest problems with the game (things that made me leave) have been addressed.

First off do we still lose 10% of a level when we die? That was cruel. I died a lot. In other MMO's I could task myself knowing every xp get, no matter how slow. was a step forward.

Is the party mindset still really exclusive of certain jobs? I love some jobs known for being able to solo (Summoner, Puppetmaster, and Beastmaster in particular) but hated to solo, loved to party. I'm worried with it being easier to solo now that parties are actually HARDER to find. I quit just after the leveldown system came into play. Has it made it easy enough to just stay in Kazham until max level? Had some great parties in Kazham.

Finally is travel still such a pain? I remember dying 5 times and taking 45 minutes to find one spot or another only to have whatever I was looking for (usually a party) no longer get there. Doesn't help when I have Latinos spamming "ZZzzZZzZz" at me as if their impatience will allow me to break game mechanics and teleport right on top of them.

I guess there is one more. I LOVED the fellowship thing. Has it been expanded at all? Balpheron's buddy was almost as handsome as he was.

Its been a long time Since I logged in, years, do old character get deleted after so much time? Im hoping I wont have to start from nothing.

Only change was level 1-30 doesn't lose exp, so I'm fairly sure that's still the case.

Unfortunately exp parties outside of abyssea is nonexistent now, you would be soloing using 3 trust NPCs, fov/gov pages, and records of eminence.

Travel is much faster now with the ability to warp inbetween homepoints and survival guides.

Only adjustment for fellows was ability to level them to 99.

Your character should be there.

To add to this, trusts are like fellows, so by yourself and with a fellow, you would have a 5 person party :p Exp is easier to get now and transportation as well. Try it out ;p

Well, FFXI is way easier now. I like it a lot more than before. I have a family and only play 2-4 hours a week and still enjoy it.

Just remember tha fellows reduce XP but Trusts do not. If you are a DD, go with a WHM and BRD x2 or WHM, BRD, DD (at lower levers, Trust DD are great, but extra marches from second BRD at hight levels will be better).

You can solo to 99 outide of Aby with FoC and GoV (log out in area to keep bonuses). Use trusts and blow through EP/DC or try for T/VT if up to it. Make sure you set up sparks quests for extra XP, Sparks and unity points.

There are home points everywhere now you can teleport between for minimal Gil (500-1,000). They are in every city and many other areas.

Go to FFXI Wiki and look up trusts, home points, Grounds Tome and Field Manual. That should be a good start.

What jobs do you want to play?

Thank you all so much. I feel like I know what to do now.

As for what Jobs do I want to play? Definitely want to get Summoner up to end game. It's the job I miss the most. Than one of Puppetmaster or Beastmaster (probably Pup). I'm *very* interested in geomancer. I always wanted to play a Bard, but I wont pull. I HATE pulling. Just no no no I won't do it. Does geomancer pull? I hope it doesn't.

Aside from those I do love the various mage jobs. I simply must get my subjobs leveled. Dancer and Scholar in particular.

GEO is more like a BLM that plops some supporty things. So, I wouldn't say pulling is an expectation even though the old infini-chain merit style that turned BRD into an expected puller isn't really a thing now. It can get a bit "costly" though since a fair chunk of its spells can only be acquired from a vendor. So it might not be wise to make it your first come-back job if you were broke or generally suck at making gil. Just expect to take a long time skilling geomancy/handbell as it doesn't have many MP cheap/low recast offensive geo-specific spells.
