FFXI wont get a sub reductionFollow

So I just read the directors replies about community questions.

No reduction in REM requirements.
No reduction in sub fee.
No server merges.

Anyone else shocked they are going to treat their long term customers this badly? Basically they are going to make them pay for nothing other than accessing the game. A subscription is supposed to pay for the developers to make new content, what does the subscription fee goto here?

They are basically saying their customers are stupid I guess.

The amount of money they made off FFXI they should run the game for free for the next 5+ years considering the server costs are minimal and no developers will be working on the game.

they actually said "no server merges until at least november" makes sense, there may be a population boom wit this years content.
"no plans to reduce sub fee atm" this makes sense because if they said they will reduce sub fee at some point they will lose players until that time, they want more players for this years content not less.
..Why do you want a reduction to rem requirements? it will just make people get bored of the game quicker.

As if the RME reqs didn't bore people to begin with... Dynamis: Day 72, "Are we there yet?!"

Fees and merges are something I'd mainly hold criticism on until November even though I do believe both have needed attention for a while now.

To start off, I'd like to explain the reasoning behind why we will no longer be implementing major version updates and why we will be stopping service for both the PlayStation 2 version and the Xbox 360 version. As we've explained on various occasions, the game was developed originally as a PlayStation 2 game, and it has been developed while performing maintenance in a development environment from over ten years ago. We've done everything we can to procure development equipment for PlayStation 2, and the FFXI development team has just about managed to secure nearly all of the equipment from around the world. This equipment is limited to a couple dozen machines, and we have been carefully using these development machines to continue performing version updates on PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PC.

Quote:
In regards to the PlayStation 2 development equipment I mentioned about just before, when we asked Sony Computer Entertainment the difficult question of how long we would be able to continue on PlayStation 2 since FFXI is the only service that was being continued, they responded that they would wait for the right time and ignore the business aspects. Microsoft has also treated us very kindly and has made exceptions for this project time and time again. Additionally, in regards to questions about whether we can port FFXI to different hardware, it was made playable on Windows and Xbox 360 based on that which was made for the PlayStation 2. Many of the resources can only be made in integrated environments, and since the PlayStation development equipment is at the core of this, if the PlayStation 2 tools can no longer be used it will not be possible to continue development.

I'm just echoing sentiments I've seen on BG and FFXIAH, but... lol PS2 limitations. Literally.

Depending on what they actually end up doing by the end of the year, it might be the end of the line for me. :< I can't see myself continuing to pay monthly for a game that will no longer see updates. I absolutely do want to finish this final scenario though and give this chapter of my life (as corny as that sounds, it really is accurate) a proper closure.

I do think though that if they were planning to lower or nix the monthly fee, they wouldn't actually announce it until after the updates stop. Why make even more people abandon ship now by announcing it early?

I think they should have programs such as get 14 subscribed and get 11 for half off.

I think a 3 dollar reduction in game cost for 11 in 2016 would be an appropriate move.

I do think they need to reduce the subscription fee at one point though.

I play very casual now, so have a long time to go to finish the parts of the game I want to, but definately ,they should consider reducing sub fee by the years end imo.

A: We do not have any plans to make any adjustments that’ll lower the value of weapons such as relic weapons, mythic weapons, and empyrean weapons. However, as I mentioned earlier, we are considering removing restrictions such as instances where you can only challenge content once every three days. We’d like to increase the amount of times you can challenge content. With these changes it should make it easier to obtain these weapons than the current situation. However, we won’t make any adjustments where it’ll suddenly become an item that can be obtained from a login campaign.

Seems to me they do intend to make RME acquisition a little more friendly, by making the required content more accessible. Same outcome really if you can do multiple dynamis runs in a day for example, you can chop off a lot of idle time where you make no progress because you can't even enter the event.

Runespider overreacts and takes 'maybe' as 'never in a million years'.

Just another day on =10.

How about the final story of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel. That's reason enough for me.

Considering the original lore dev who wrote most of the lore from the start up until CoP has jumped ship from the company, doesn't give me much faith that the original storyline will be wrapped up well. I'd imagine they are using their notes. A fun fact is that the dev that did the original lore worked on the main storyline for the original Resident Evil game. :3

I've always been more about game than story. I play to improve my character first and foremost.

I know it's normally not true for most Final Fantasy games, but I'm way more interested in my character than the story. Nothing against the story, but it's hard to follow with such large time gaps and having to "x" through to cut scenes.
