I am a super casual player on FFXI, get a few hours in here and there as I can. I recently came back not to long ago, maybe 2 months. I am up to date on all the expansions and jobs. What I'm wondering is with the additions of trusts to facilitate solo play is it at all possible to unlock Oboro for the weapons alone or is it a group only thing?

I tryed out a SKCNM on the normal difficulty setting to see what I was up against with the trusts helping. I tried out Amphibian Assault II as a Ninja using Apururu, Koru-Moru, Lion II and Zeid II. The run went flawless, I barley took any damage and was able to unlock the difficult setting. Come round 2 I tried the same one again on difficult and just got pulverized within 30 seconds. My gear is not top of the line, I have a average item level of 116. Upgraded relic set to 109 then 3 pieces to 119 so far.

So my question is can I solo any of the SKCNM on difficult with trusts or have I reached the limit of what I can do alone? I am perfectly fine with having to stop at that point, there is still so much to catch up on. It would just be nice to have a better weapon to progress with.

Also to note I can try any job in the SKCNM with the level 117 gear from sparks. I just wanted some friendly input before I use all my seals up.

Note that right now Shemo will convert 2 of any seal/crest to another type, rather than needing 3, so if you have any stockpile of other seals now would be the time to load up on more SKCs if you need em.

Considering there are people who are tackling the merit point BCNMs on the higher difficulties solo (fights which are of significantly higher difficulty than the SKCNMs, even though the people doing this are probably geared to the teeth and are very experienced with the game), I'm sure at least some of the SKCNMs are at least possible. I'm unable to provide any specific strategy on any of them, though D:

I can tell you that if you're even able to just get one person to help you, the difficulty of many of these fights can be lessened considerably, due to the opening up of several strategies that players can employ that trusts cannot. For instance, using at least two players opens up the potential of supertanking, a strategy that a trust tank couldn't employ. Players can also pre-buff without the need to engage in battle like trusts need to.

Beating any of the Phantom Gem KI BCs on Normal also unlocks Oboro. If you were able to do an SKCNM on normal you might want to try that.

Or you can also try to setup a Diificult run with real players and some trusts, many ppl need basic oapers for empyrean sets 109.

SKCNMs are significantly lower difficulty than the merit point BCNMs (the content levels given indicate this outright). Beating a SKCNM on normal is a far cry from being a merit BCNM on normal :<

That's not to say it can't still be done, but I'm just saying don't expect similar difficulty just because they both say "normal"

So from a ton of trial and error with the Ark Angels I'm thinking maybe I just need to trade out some gear for accuracy, on multiple attempts I've survived the entire fight but I keep running out of time. I'm pretty sure my hit chance on the 119 setting is way below par. As far as difficulty "normal" is vastly different in the BCNM and the Angels. Mainly the hit chance is the change, and they do hit a little harder when they land an attack. I'll do some more testing tomorrow on those, appreciate the tips from you guys so far.

I also attempted the BST Dawn Mulsim run. I crafted and went through at least 25 of them and I didn't even get it a 1/4 of the way down. But on BST my gear is really bad so that was the key factor in that attempt.

So after using up 100-200 merits on the angels I was finally able to down one of them on the 119 setting. Ark Angel TT was the one that did it for me, running as a NIN/RUN for extra magic protection and a quite significant boost to damage using runes helped a ton in the fight. Also I used Sushi a few new accuracy pieces and the help of the trusts Apururu, Koru-Moru, Elivira and Semih-Lafihna. It was not the smoothest run but it was manageable, with a clear time of 20 min and 57 seconds. The other trusts are pretty brainless and just walk right into anything to get killed right away. With those 4 every one of them never left the center circle making it much easier.

I really appreciate the tip on trying the Ark Angels it really worked out well for me. Thanks everyone!
