So.. I played many a years ago. I played.. fanatically. I love this game. But I've been playing FFXIV.. and it's not the same to me. It doesn't have the same feel that XI always did. And then last night I went to A New World, the FF concert and all. And they played 'Selbina' and 'Sarutabaruta'.. and right then and there I decided I had to try again.

But.. I tried playing again a bit ago, and I found myself.. dissapointed. No one did PUG groups anymore for leveling. Everyone did the.. power leveling... thing.. like no one went to the dunes to level, they were all in that mine. And doing books and all. Is this still how it is? It really turned me off. I enjoy finding groups, going to the different areas to level. I know most didn't.

Also.. is there still an unofficial RP server? That's something else that's important to me.

I'd say Abyssea powerleveling has given way to soloing with Trusts, simply because that can be done whenever without the caveat of keying and what not. Worm parties and the like will still happen, but if you're pining for the days of IT++ grinds for 3k/hr, they're gone, buried, and well past worm food at this point. That's just the fate of a decade+ old game getting top-heavy with little advertising for fresh blood.

As for RP, sadly, not really. Retail's probably not for you anymore.
