Today we released the November 2015 update for FINAL FANTASY XI.
This update marks the climax of Iroha's saga in Vana'diel, which began in May of this year. Fight alongside the woman from the future in her struggle against the void and experience how Vana'diel will face the coming age.
Naoshi Mizuta has composed a stirring melody, the eponymous Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, to encompass all we have experienced to date. The choral section, which utilizes your submissions that we accepted earlier this year, is a shining symbol of the memories we have made over the course of Vana'diel's storied history. I hope you take this chance to remember those irreplaceable friends you have made during your journeys.

As announced in March, we will continue minor version updates through and beyond April 2016. Each month we will bring you battlefields, Record of Eminence additions, balance adjustments, and bug fixes. Vana'diel's story does not end here, and in the near future we are planning a version update for December. We will have further updates in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned for more.

We are continuing to hold and plan the Goddess's Gala, a celebration of FINAL FANTASY XI and Rhapsodies of Vana'diel.
Among the many things we are planning to bring to you are a mosaic of screenshots you have submitted to us, a blu-ray disc called Priceless Remembrance, and a commemorative publication featuring screenshots recreating the main missions of the original FINAL FANTASY XI and its various expansions.
We are also going to hold a Return Home to Vana'diel campaign, so look up your friends and invite them back to Vana'diel so they can experience the conclusion of our ultimate scenario. Of course, we have planned a variety of other special campaigns to aid adventurers new and old alike!

It is thanks to the overwhelming support of Vana'diel's many adventurers that we have been able to bring FINAL FANTASY XI to you for fourteen years, and I would like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude. I would also like to offer my deepest appreciation to all departments that have supported us and to all the staff that have worked on developing and operating the game over these many years.

Take the time to fully enjoy all that the development and operations teams have spent days and nights preparing for you in this November version update.

May your adventures in FINAL FANTASY XI be fruitful!

A Word to All of Vana'diel's Adventurers

Greetings, adventurers! Matsui here.

I'd like to talk a little about our plans for FINAL FANTASY XI going forward on the development and management side of things.

So that adventurers can always look forward to a fresh and ever-changing Vana'diel, we will be continuing monthly version updates past April. Look out for new updates every month focused on battle and story content.

On the battle side of things, we will be adding new battle varieties each month to keep up the scale and ferocity of the epic battlefields enjoyed thus far viable for a wide range of jobs and play styles. Of course, we also have smaller content planned for solo and Trust-based play.

Fresh story content is also in the works to flesh out the lives of Vana'diel's many inhabitants. New Records of Eminence objectives will offer adventurers glimpses into these characters' side stories.

To ensure that adventuring through Vana'diel stays as fun and frustration-free as possible, we will continue to balance battle content and make adjustments and quality of life improvements wherever we can. We will also be continuing to run login and other campaigns in keeping with the needs and wants of the community.

We are currently busy preparing for monthly updates in the run-up to April, including a version update slated for February, which will introduce new augments for Relic, Mythic, Empyrean, and Ergon weapons.

As our plans for next year begin to solidify, we are growing increasingly excited for 2016 in Vana'diel. The team and I are committed to keep the magic of Vana'diel alive and will be putting in our hearts and souls to ring in another new and exciting year for FINAL FANTASY XI.

We wish you all a happy and safe holiday season and hope to see you all in Vana'diel in 2016!

Seems more like a mistranslation based on today's OF rme post:

Greetings,

I have a bit more to add about the upcoming enhancements.

After enhancing Relic, Mythic, and Empyrean weapons via the new upgrade path, an afterglow effect will be applied to each one.

The first reason for this is to enable future expansion of this content. The afterglow effect on weapons is tied to the completion of Trials of the Magians, and the data for these quests are stored directly on the weapon itself. This data record occupies the same space as that of the weapons’ stat expansion, and in the event you haven’t completed Trials of the Magians (i.e. have not obtained an afterglow), it would not be possible to increase the weapon stats or expand on the special properties.

The second reason is to reduce the time and resources for enhancements. When looking into enhancements for these weapons, we found that if we were to split them into two groups (those with afterglow and those without), it would require a higher amount of resources, which would cause the development time to increase. In order to avoid this from happening, we decided to adopt the current plan that we are moving forward with.

If you already have a weapon with an afterglow effect, you will have an advantage as the next phase for enhancement will be easier to accomplish. On the other hand, those that do not have an afterglow will have quite a challenge ahead of them.

The development team is working hard on adjustments so that they can implement this content, so please stay tuned for more details!

Got all excited until this part. The status quo will be maintained, apparently.

A Word to All Adventurers (03/03/2016)

Hail, adventurers! I'd like to keep you abreast of what will be happening in the world of Vana'diel in and after April.

As we reminded you last week, Thursday, March 31 will be the final day of service for the PlayStation®2 and Xbox 360® versions of FINAL FANTASY XI. Words cannot possible express how much we have appreciated your support over these many years.

But this does not mean the end of Vana'diel, and we hope you will continue to join us on the Windows version of the game. Each month we will continue to bring you game updates, and I hope you will accompany us each step of the way.

All those playing the game on the PlayStation®2 or Xbox 360® versions of the game will need to do is download the windows client. Follow the steps laid out on the links below to continue your FINAL FANTASY XI experience on a new platform.

Those using a PlayOnline ID may not receive notices and updates from Square Enix, so please migrate to a Square Enix account at your earliest convenience by following the steps below.

The new development team structure promises to work as hard as ever to create new and exciting experience in the world of Vana'diel, and at the end of the month we plan to hold an event wherein previous adventurers will have the opportunity to set foot in Vana'diel for free once more-a perfect time to bring old friends back.

Vana'diel has plenty in store in the months to come, and we hope you will enjoy your time here more than ever before.
