And I got a new computer, and after letting it update all night, then spending the last hour and a half trying to get the game to work the way I want and failing (it looks like garbage and I can't get my gamepad to work right)... I feel fully satiated of the FFXI experience. I remember now. This is what it's all about.

In a way I am very satisfied. Wish I didn't have to pay the subscription fee to get this far, but in a way, it's perfect. I think I am going to go run around in some very awful looking pixels for a bit.

I couldn't stay away either. So, Welcome back!
Anyway, your pixel problems are nothing more than registry tweaks waiting to happen. You can start Here

Edit: preludes post ... but it's a good one lol

Ya, new computer = problems with this game, hah. I had to undo the super sampling, and turn shadows off. Then you throw in something to unlock your FPS and you're good to go. The newer the CPU/GPU, the worse this game seems to run. I'm SO hoping once xbox and ps2 are done, they do something to optimize the game with newer hardware...and unlock the FPS without having to go through hoops to get it done.

Rig can run new games flawless at 1080p...throw XI at it though...yikes. It's almost like Everquest 2 which was optimized for 100 core CPUs, since the devs thought technology was going that way.

I noticed some things after I came back during the free week after playing FFXIV.

- If an ability goes off, it goes off so it's not like invincible is activated only to die a second later because of it didn't activate anyway but reset the cooldown!
- There's a second delay on emotions while on XIV they are instant.
- DAT Swap!
- Runs like crap, you could use Google's serverpark to run this game and it would drop to 5 fps in Abyssea.
- Every room looks the same, I have to pull up the map each time to pin point exactly where I am.
- Oh? You don't have a map of that area? Too bad your character don't have any map drawing skills!
- It was fun to guide people through Yuhtunga Jungle, having a map didn't seem to help.
- Oh god switching jobs, when you have gear sets on your main job and want to change to secondary you better take your day off to do so.
- Still no good mouse support.
- 10 hour updates
- Playonline
- Always remember to store your macros on the servers, otherwise if you uninstalled and want to reinstall it you need to take another day off.

Overall it's a great game.

hi!

I played for a couple days but got distracted by Diablo III.

But it's on the computer so likelihood is I will feel like resubbing at least for a few days every month.

This right here, is why after WotG I ran Windower from the backup drive and every week (usually Sunday since it was JP midnight and part of a lot of quests and missions) I'd just copypasta the User folder from FFXI and back it up in the Windower directory.

Saved a lot of hassle when I came back after the 3rd part of Abyssea.

I swear, there's something about this game that always makes you want to come back. Hell even I feel the pull now and then to visit my short alter ego in the game. Is the new content worth visiting? Last time I logged in, I just had no idea where to start back.

I feel like at the very least it's worth it to come back to knock out Rhapsodies. At least then even if you do still feel like quitting, you can at least say that you beat the game~

It also has the benefit of being the primary piece of content you should focus on regardless, due to the various benefits and lockout-removals that it offers.

To further Fyn's bit, I'd also add that it can be rough if you don't have friends you're coming back to. While early RoV stuff can be handled in Sparks gear, you're gonna want around 1000 ACC as a melee once your hit the Reisenjima phase of content. That isn't so easy to get solo. Doable, but time consuming and/or expensive. The JP grind will also suck without good gear.

I personally think I'm done. It used to be every few months I'd come back, but it's been about a year now.

I'm back for the free week at least. Beat RoV.

Now I want that schoolgirl outfit. What is it called and where/what is it from?

This. It's totally worth coming back for a bit to do RoV...

I've been playing pretty consistently since I resubbed... though I guess SE wants me to quit again since they banned me on the official forums for god knows what. It's really irritating how arbitrary their bans are and you have no idea what post it was that bothered them so much. If they at least showed you the offending post I'd feel less annoyed.

Unless Ambuscade is a gear set I want this month -AND- soloable I will let my sub drop. I am cool with playing with others when the opportunity arises but I hate being faced with no opportunity for progress outside of grouping because most of the time I have neither the time or the interest.

Otherwise the campaigns are all pretty garbage this month, no free goodies, nothing actually fun (like the neo-nyzul campaign is not very rewarding for the most part but at least it is entertaining, for example). I guess I could aim to do domain invasion but ... meeeeeh relies on other people too much.

It's not that a post bothers them, it's that you bother enough other people for them to report you. They will strike/ban based on that regardless of what you actually say.

Obviously, we aren't the only ones affected. I'd have put in my two cents into that thread, but kinda can't, on account of being... well, banned already.

Hmm ambuscade since it came out has been very soloable - to get enough points each month to get all the +1 gear all it takes is around 7 runs a day on Easy setting which is roughly an hours work/day including getting the KIs.

Being able to solo it on difficult last month (which I can no longer do this month, mind you, because this fight is considerably more difficult) was still an incredibly painful slog. I would not even be able to tell someone "oh don't worry, just solo it 2.5x as many times on easy!" with a straight face.

Depends on your current progression and job choice to be honest. It wasn't that bad at all if you're up to date (as in you can safely say your job is mastered and fully geared out and by mastered I mean have all CP/Gifts and the 3 stars, let alone play skill.)

It's definitely easier with a group but soloing is certainly an option. This round is a bit harder but nothing completely unmanageable I've noticed.

My experience with difficult this time around is that the trusts eventually just get 1-shotted by Mow and you gradually get taken down. It does way more AoE damage than anything the dragon did at that same difficulty.

Think most everyone would agree this batch of Ambuscade is harder this time around. Whether or not SE meant the first round to be as "easily soloable" is probably an answer we'll never get. However, with Gallantry being a thing now, it seems more obvious they want people grouping even though people are still jerks about actually grouping for harder things.

I could only do the dragon on normal (not a high enough hit rate on difficult) and I wasn't able to finish all the +1 because time... I only have so much of it. That said I was pleased as punch with how it all was the first month, I felt it was pretty fair all around even if I couldn't get enough points for the full +1 set the NQ was pretty great still and would be a step up for a lot of players.

This month's was just soooo meh. The set wasn't very exciting overall, and since I don't really play any of the jobs on it (only pup is leveled and the set offered nothing much to pup) and they made the fight harder (to get a pop even) I just totally ignored it this round.

The rest of the sets will be for jobs I tend to play more so I will have more interest but I hope the set quality goes up - the pops are easier to make - and the fight is a little more fair for people playing using trusts. I don't mind having to grind to get my gear, and I don't mind not getting the full +1 set because I don't play a lot - that's life but I would like them to make normal soloable without too much trouble by anyone in any 119 gear.

Ha, I think I bothered more people before though and I never got banned. I mean, in the past I've seen people on BG railing about me and how much I post and it never resulted in a ban. I haven't seen as much hate lately so I am doubtful it is simply volume. I do think they look at the content somewhat or I would have been banned waaay long time ago. This is the first it's happened though. Maybe it's just random!

Eh, I'd pass it off some people failing to realize that insulting others isn't cool. It's still possible to disagree without doing such, but I guess it's what the internet is notorious for. I can't profess innocence from it, either, but it's typically done to others I see doing it.

Otherwise, I'm pretty sure if it was just about report spam, I would've been banned simply for RDM commentary as I didn't conform to the backline stereotype and building the job around the premise. It's also best not to presume people can't see veiled insults or those doled out through uncommon words.

Not really interested in turning this into an argument about thick skin or safe spaces, though. I just personally aspire for people to not be jerkwads right out the gate.

I really do think their forums are just moderated by a robot nowadays. Too many reports on a thread? Lock/delete the thread, ban the posters with the most reports. Simples!

The content of the posts doesn't really matter, because what I got banned for was something totally innocuous that just so happened to be in a heated thread (regarding the BST nerf, ironically enough) so I can only assume it was a ban because it was unpopular and "disturbed the peace" too much.

That, or just some irresponsible GMs, I suppose. Lack of appeals process isn't the best of signs, either.
