FFXI mobile or whatever they're calling it. Follow

#1 Mar 31 2016 at 5:15 PM Rating: Decent
I was curious if anyone here has been following the status on the mobile version of FFXI. By mobile, I don't mean the spin offs, but the true mmo experience using touch interface. As console support has now ended, it seems reasonable to assume FFXI might get a second life on mobile. I'd really like the chance to transfer my character so if anyone knows any of the details beyond mere speculation, please let me know.

They won't be transferring characters. They did say they may offer some kind of bonus to current/former players but it is going to be an entirely new game, and only go to CoP at first iirc.

Anyway they haven't released any news I've seen since at least last summer.

I do imagine it would be insane to release 10+ years of content at launch. I'm curious though if this version of FFXI will play like the original RoZ NA release or post Fields of Valor. The days of MPKing people in the dunes on accident still brings back the good memories. I hope they don't have 24hr NM's though. Instances or 1-2 hours pops only would be preferred. I guess it's all speculation at this point.

Anyone imagining it'll be free-roaming like XI or even an outright clone is probably in for some disappointment.

Looking to other mobile games, I'd expect each zone to be broken down into multiple key points. At said points, you could do something like fight mobs for EXP, tackle quest objectives, or even do things like harvest materials. Unlocking other nodes would probably require winning a fight or completing some objective, but you can safely bet there will be some kind of stamina feature tied to it, too.

Actual fights are probably going to be more like the solo player teaming up with various storyline NPCs with the ability to "borrow" a friend's character to fill a party slot. Fighting itself will probably be similar to other ATB entries, if not outright turn-based. This'll also mean no stuff like linking adds or getting magic aggro.

In the end, XI's stories can be told in this format, which is likely more important than trying to relive the good ol' days of MPK or AH manipulation. Actual player trading will probably minimal for fear of RMT, but who knows. Basically, think of an XI you can sit down and play for 10-15 minutes at a time. Anything greater isn't particular conducive to mobile play, especially with battery drain and variable internet access.

I suppose you're right. I guess we'll have to wait and see what they do. I'm not liking Battlemasters or whatever the spinoff is so I probably shouldn't get my hopes up.

I played the mobile release of Maple Story(a Nexon game) shortly after its launch. It recreated the original game quite faithfully, though on a very bare-bones level. There were only three classes to choose from (two of which were NOT part of the original game) to play on the majority of vanilla pre-update Maple Story world maps. Given enough time, I'm sure it will evolve into the same monstrosity it is on PC today.

If Nexon were to start the FFXI Mobile port like this, I imagine it will look a lot like FFXI did in its earliest days after its release in Japan-- just with even less content, if that is at all possible. If they were to play it they did Maple Story (<--- Read this part, I'm serious), we'd have the choice to start out as either a thief, a dark knight or blue mage-- with all the other classes unavailable until future updates, and we'd have access to all pre-Rise of the Zilart areas, maybe the main nation mission line up to rank 6 and some quests.

I'm on the fence about this game, but I figure this mobile game would expedite some things and hopefully make the game fresh again. I really don't want to learn blue spells again though lol. I'll have to wait and see at this point. The info I've seen thus far isn't enough to make a commitment. I keep hearing about having a private server for the game so that wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Actually, considering it will be streamed, like other mobile MMOs on the Japanese/Chinese/Korean market, it works perfectly fine. It depends purely on the actual game design. They even had XIII running perfectly fine via streaming, so I'm pretty sure unless Nexon decides to handicap something, it will be like the XI we know, only probably more "streamlined."

Here is a link to the first screenshots or at least that I found of the game. The UI is a placeholder at this point so nothing to say about that. The microtransactions on top worried me quite a bit though. The graphics look good to me, but I haven't played XI in quite a few years. http://kotaku.com/first-look-at-the-final-fantasy-xi-reboot-for-mobile-1773316772

I just saw and honestly I am just so sad they didn't just remake it like this for PC. I can understand why they didn't, but I mean it looks really good from the little I see and with small updates to UI etc I would be all over a game like this if it was for PC.
