Returning from 2007, which content to do ?Follow

#1 Apr 25 2016 at 7:38 PM Rating: Decent
Hi guys

I know this has been bought up many times, and i've been reading the "returning guides" here and there, but i can not find anything really up-to-date. I started playing in 2004 and stopped in 2007. All this new content is making me feel dizzy.

I'm curently THF99 but my main will be NIN once i finish leveling subs to 50. Please can anyone point me to the content i should do and in which order ? And maybe the 2 or 3 absolute must-have piece of equipement i should get ?

I've been reading so many wiki pages that i'm totaly lost on actualy where to start.

Thanks a bunch :)

PS : is NIN any good at all now ?

Get your eminence gear then pick up what trusts you can. Basically, you should be able to solo most anything pre-Adoulin then.

Can't speak for NIN's quality, though, but I haven't heard people clamor for it much. I'd honestly say you'd have better luck getting groups with others if you stuck to THF.

Move yourself along in Rhapsodies of Vana'diel as much as you can. You will be able to skip over a lot of SoA content--should you desire--such as skirmish and delve (although both of those do have the occasional useful item) as most of the current good content is in the RoV Escha areas. You should be able to do some of your leveling of subs and THF in Escha- Zi'Tah, which will help you build up your currency and bonuses there. Escha Zi'Tah and Ru'Aun both have some content that you could solo for some decent gear improvements.

The newest content, Ambuscade, have some very good gear, including awesome JSE backs. However, this content, and rewards, are planned to change monthly (the current armor of the month is effectively upgraded Ares set, not useful for your preferred jobs). This content can be handled solo or in small groups, and even at the easier difficulty settings, you should be able to make decent progress on an upgraded JSE back.

As for NIN... my LS doesn't make a lot of use of it. A well geared NIN can be pretty impressive, but really, that goes for any job. A lot of tanking now makes heavy use of paladin, but if you are planning to solo a lot of content, NIN will probably be fairly useful. If you plan on that course, level your DNC sub.

I highly doubt an average person would be able to skip from 117 gear to Escha Zi'tah soloing...

If you're soloing focus on the Rhapsodies and Ambuscade. Get as many hallmarks as you can. Even if you don't now want the sets of gear on offer they are decent enough that you will want them eventually if you ever level those jobs. Even the NQ are better by a long shot than a LOT of other moderately accessible gear. And the capes are amazing so you're going to want to work on one for your chosen job.

Run around Adoulin & wilderness areas and get your warps. If you see people shouting for Yorcia Alluvion Skirmish (Yorcia Skirmish [A]) try to join in if you can. That's probably the most accessible gear you can get your hands on if you can get into a group.

Do your CoP missions - it gates a lot of content, even modern content. You'd be shocked at how much content is blocked by not doing these missions.

Look over the 119 relic and 119 artifact armor. Pick the best of each set and work on getting a full set of 119 gear. Some of these pieces aren't even particularly better than some of the 117 stuff - HOWEVER if you aren't in full 119 gear you're going to be gimping your trusts.I am not up on ninja but a lot of these bits are, at the very least, good macro pieces in the long term. In the short term, these are some of the easiest 119 gears to get.

TRUSTS: get a lot of them. Seriously. Get as many as you can. Most are trash. Some are situationally useful.

WEAPONS... you're going to want to find any way you can to get 119 weapons. The skill on them is essential for being able to hit stuff. Unity Wanted battles are probably your most likely bet for easier to get 119 weapons... it may be hard to find players for this but there is a double drop campaign going on now so maybe easier than usual. Alluvion skirmish is another option.

Mind = blown. Just coming back and I was seriously left behind last time I played. I'm still in the level 75 cap mindset.
