Any good guides on this stuff? Every other expansion gets you into the content slowly and explains what you are doing...

My experience with Abysea is not the same. Its just "Go here for 30 minutes and we are not going to tell you wtf you should do or how anything works... Good luck."

Most of the guides are rather poor for abyssea. I am also finding that time extensions are a major issue. In all the time spent in abysea so far I have gotten well over 30 blue chests... 3 of them where time extensions. For now I got the KI off the tonberry for faster stones and I am going to work on RoV at least until I can get the KI to help from there.

Unless you can both get a lot of azure light quickly, and then proceed to kill -a lot- of mobs, you aren't likely to come out ahead on time extensions.

Fortunately, it's a lot easier to cleave these days between trusts and Sparks gear as a starting point. If your class isn't individually good at building azure, use some BLM trusts to do it for you. Just weaken for them and turn away. And of course, resting will show you your current light status if you didn't know. From there, once you're like 180+ blue, target some easy mobs that work well with your job's method of killing. If you're using a magical WS like Aeolian Edge, things that don't give gold lights would be best. Physical ones like Fell Cleave wouldn't want red types. BLU has it pretty good here, as they can AoE nuke or physical for blue or red lights, and the former obviously won't hurt your TE gathering. All this in mind, you're going to want pearl lights just to better guarantee chests do appeal, which means melee kills. Easily popped NMs can help things along since their light yields are amplified. Also, if you are AoEing, light values gained only count from the initial target.
