It’s time for another guide. I’ve been wanting to write one about /search for some time now and while LFP today I decided to do it. I have used some information from this thread and the rest I knew or found using /? sea.

/sea san all

/sea rdm * all
- Finds all RDM who are in a pt.

/sea rank 2<5 win mit all
- Finds all Mithra from Windurst who are rank 2, 3, 4, or 5.

Notes

Due to another change in one of the patches /sea "The {Eldieme Necropolis}" no longer works, however now /sea "{The Eldieme Necropolis}" does.

Areas with just one word don't need the quotes. Example: /sea Mhaura

If you've never been to the area you can't search in it. You can find people who are in the area by other means, but you cannot do a direct area search.

Case does not matter for the area name.

You cannot search BC zones. If you try /sea waughroon nothing will show up, even if you've been to Waughroon Shrine. The only way you can search BC zones is if you are in that particular area, and do a /sea.

With /sea lvl xx-xxx the ‘lvl’ isn’t needed. By default the command assumes that xx-xxx is lvl.

Edit: Added forgotten job NIN.

Edit: Added more information about Area Name Search Codes including links to more information about the zones.

Edit: Added more [abv._area_name] that I didn't have.

Edit: Added the remaining [abv._area_name] that I didn't have thanks to Jibini.

Edit: Added jobs BLU, COR, and PUP. Also added some new areas.

Another Hint:

If you are a party leader, instead of using the Find Members (which will only search your current region), do this instead:

/sea all x-y inv

Where X is your level -1 and Y is your level +1. If you don't see very many you could do -2 +2 instead. Say you are Lv56.

You'd do:

/sea all 55-57 inv

This beats the "Find Member" by far.

Great guide, /sea can be immensely useful.

Though it has caused me to dislike people who start their names with any of the abbreviations since I typically search using the first 3 letters of someone's name (tar-, mit-, gal-, elv-, hum-, san-, bas-, etc). The worst is when their name starts with all- >_<.

/sea *

allows you to see everyone within parameters that is IN a party.
(ie the ppl's whose name is usually green or yellow)
I find this best used for seeing how many parties are in a given exp area.

Diorama Abdhaljs - Purgonorgo Isle: Not in game.
Ship from Mhaura to Selbina: ShipToSelb
Ship from Selbina to Mhaura: ShipToMhau

Also note that no BC areas (eg. La'Loff Amphitheater) are searchable. If you search by name, people in there will show up as in that zone, and you can search your current area and (I think) region and pick up people there. You cannot do a "/sea LaLoff" though.

There's also a dummy command. If you add "home" into any of your searches, it will do nothing. /sea home = /sea, /sea all home = /sea all. Found that out when searching for Homeskilllet. I had to either knock off the e or add an s to be able to find him.

I heard the /sea all can do TNL amounts? I forget the command though... this would mean you could invite someone with a short amount of EXP until next level, which is immensely handy.
Anyone remember what this is?

I find it's easier to use the translator to input the area name that to try and remember a giant list of cryptic abbreviations.

/sea Tem[tab]

becomes:

/sea /green]Temple of Uggalepih[red[/red]

add quotes and it becomes:

/sea "Temple of Uggalepih"

This is much easier than typing /sea "Uggalepih". The abbreviation does me no good because I can't remember how to spell it anyway.

The problem with using this method is not all area names are the same as in the auto-translator. For the ones that are it is very useful, but there are a few that have been changed.

For example:
/sea [Green]{Sanctuary of Zi’Tah}[/Chartreuse] doesn't work, but /sea "The [Green]{Sanctuary of Zi’Tah}"[/Chartreuse] does.
Same way with /sea [Green]{Eldieme Necropolis}[/Chartreuse] doesn't work, but /sea "The [Green]{Eldieme Necropolis}"[/Chartreuse] does.

Huge rate up! I feel the /sea commands are extremely under utilized. It is so much more efficient then shouting for members (not to mention less spam.)

OP: While your method of typing in parameters is probably the most direct to finding what you want, you can also just type /sea all, then hit the enter key on the top bar. This will take you to a menu where you can refine the search.

Example: /sea all, enter key, bastok, rank 5. Final result will be a list of all rank 5 bastokians.

Sorry if you covered that and I missed it, but thats the way I do it as my brain is not fantastical enough to remember all the abbreviations. ^^

This is nice. I've been looking for a list of the area names.

Does anybody know the parameters to search specific types of comments like items or missions? If you could get those parameters I'd be very happy.

Thanks for the zone names, I always use the clumsy GUI for it since I can't get the abbreviations ever right.

One or two other help tips (level ranges) (didn't know you could omit level or xx- for jobs to 75).

Questions (and I suspect the answers are all no no no, in which case we should submit requests to SE).

1. Is there a way to do a search only for people who aren't in parties? (ie if I'm level 50 I just do /sea all 50 to start building a party, it'd be nice to not look at people who are in parties, although its easy to tell with the blue, yellow and white names, sometimes the list truncates, which is annoying).

2. anyway to tell what mission someone is on for zilart, CoP or ToA? (i'm guessing its a big fat no). When doing rank missions I don't mind doing a shout but sending tells is so much more effective.

This is partially true. The names have been changed in the auto translator so when you do the TAB + quotes way of searching, it works just fine, you just need the right names. Your example is flawed though. "The {Eldieme Necropolis}" makes it look like {Eldieme Necropolis} still exists in the AT and that you merely need to add "The" before it to make the search work. This is incorrect. The correct search term is /sea "{The Eldieme Necropolis}". The same goes for all the other changed names.

So in general:
/sea "{insert auto-translated name of area here}" will work.

Also might want to note that you cannot search an area to which you have not travelled.

Helpful and attractive. Rate up.

[edit]Also, if you do /sea region while in one Promyvion, you'll see everyone in all promyvions. (In Promyvion-Holla, you'll see all the Dem/Mea/Vahzl people)
