Yes, this is obviously a blatant ripoff of the BG card game they do on their forums.

DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME IN THE MAIN FORUMS. Journals work just as well, and don't get you complained at. This thread is meant more for card requests and links to the designs.

First, the basic rules of the game:

* Your turn begins by placing a unique Poster card into play, if you so choose. NO DUPLICATES OF ANY POSTER ARE ALLOWED IN ONE GAME.

* If you had a Poster in play since the beginning of the turn, you may then occupy that Poster (making it unusable as the source of any further actions that turn) and play a Thread, a Trait, or an Event card.
- Thread cards are initially claimed to the Poster used to play them; this Poster begins with 5 points of presence on the thread.
- Event cards may only be played on a Thread card, and generally modify the value of the Thread in question (but may also modify the Karma stat of attached Posters).
- Trait cards generally modify a Poster, though some Traits state that they transfer to Threads. In these cases, treat the Trait as an Event.

* In addition, once per turn, you may choose to place an Object card into play, or occupy a Poster to activate that Object.
- When activating an Object to use on a Thread, the Poster that was occupied to activate the Object gains a point of presence on the Thread.
- Objects that derail Threads cause all Posters involved to lose claim on the Thread; if the Thread remains derailed for 10 turns, it becomes dead.
- If two or more Posters have equal amounts of presence on a thread, the Thread becomes unclaimed, but is not derailed.

* The game ends, generally, when all participants agree that no further useful actions can be taken in the game; the winner is whichever player controls more Threads.

--

And now, for the initial card list of 60 cards (card names will become links as appropriate images are produced):

Haggan - Poster
Karma 5.00, Intelligence 4.50
Traits: Admin, Invincible Karma
You may lock any derailed thread; remove it from play, along with any attached cards. After using this ability, Haggan becomes occupied for 5 turns.

Kaolian - Poster
Karma 5.00, Intelligence 4.85
Traits: Admin, Invincible Karma
You may ban any Poster; remove it from play, along with any Threads they control and any attached cards to the removed cards. After using this ability, Kaolian becomes occupied for 8 turns.

Saboruto - Poster
Karma 3.85, Intelligence 4.65
Traits: Invincible Karma, Gay
When Saboruto comes into play, search your deck for a Gay Trait and attach it to a thread of your choice; that thread becomes claimed by Saboruto.

Deadgye - Poster
Karma 3.20, Intelligence 3.75
Traits: Invincible Karma
Deadgye does not become occupied when involved with two or fewer Objects, Threads, or Events.

Kojiami - Poster
Karma 1.05, Intelligence 1.85
Traits: Troll
All actions that Kojiami takes on a Thread have halved effect.

Helleticweapon - Poster
Karma 0.95, Intelligence 1.00
Traits: Failed Troll
All actions that Helleticweapon takes on a Thread have no effect.
Helleticweapon starts with 1 point of presence on any Thread he initiates.
The preferred image for this card would be the "****** on the couch" from Soracloud's old avatar.

SpinShark - Poster
Karma 1.35, Intelligence 2.00
Traits: Troll
All actions that SpinShark takes on a Thread are resolved one turn later, for halved effect.

Lefein - Poster
Karma 3.75, Intelligence 4.80
Traits: Invincible Karma
When Lefein gains presence on a Thread, all Trolls on the thread lose all presence on it.

WarMaverick - Poster
Karma 3.45, Intelligence 4.60
Traits: Invincible Karma
When WarMaverick comes into play, search your deck for a Page Claiming Event and attach it to a thread of your choice; WarMaverick gains one point of presence on that thread.
WarMaverick does not become occupied when involved with four or fewer Objects, Threads, or Events.

adennak - Poster
Karma 4.95, Intelligence 5.00
Traits: Invincible Karma
When adennak comes into play, search your deck for a Renkei Chart Thread and put it into play as well. adennak immediately becomes occupied as a result of this, and has 25 points of presence on this thread.

Troll - Trait
The Poster this card is attached to is trolling.
Subtract 0.5 from all Karma changes involved with this Poster while this card is attached.
Picture of a Troll doll, obviously.

Failed Troll - Trait
While the Poster this card is attached to is trolling, he is doing so badly that it's just funny.
Reverse the sign on all Karma changes involved with this Poster while this card is attached.
Picture of a half-melted Troll doll with its hair on fire.

Gay - Trait
This Poster is just gaying things up; or, he's just managed to gay up a thread.
All effects involving this Poster and any Threads they control do not resolve for an additional turn.

Moron - Trait
This Poster is, unfortunately, a complete and total moron.
Subtract 0.5 from all Intelligence changes involved with this Poster while this card is attached.

Noob - Trait
This Poster has gone beyond being a moron; he's a noob, and he's about to h4x0r j00 f0r h4w7 s3cxz.
All Intelligence changes involving this Poster become negative while this card is attached.

Grammar **** - Trait
This Poster is quite capable of derailing threads because you can't type for shit.
While this card is attached, if this Poster does not initiate a Thread, and gains at least three points of presence on a thread, derail that Thread.

Invincible Karma - Trait
This Poster has such a huge post count that no act of man or God will move his Karma.
All Karma changes involving this Poster become 0 while this card is attached.

Troll Fight - Event - Intelligence Cost: -0.50
Oh, look, it's a troll fight.
Any Posters with presence on this Thread become occupied for 2 turns.
...and here's the Troll dolls duking it out, Street Fighter-style.

Spam - Event - Karma Cost: -2.25
Someone obviously has too much time on their hands.
While Spam is in play, each player must either put a Poster with the Admin Trait into play, or skip their turn.
Spam leaves play as soon as a Poster with the Admin Trait comes into play.

Train Wreck - Event - Intelligence Cost: -1.25
This is the aftermath of any number of well-intentioned threads that degenerate into flamewars or troll fights.
This Thread becomes derailed immediately.

Page Claiming - Event - Karma Cost: +0.15
Smiley: king
This Thread is hijacked by the Poster occupied to activate this Event; double their presence on the Thread, and reduce all other Posters' presence on the Thread to 1.

I Nerfed Your Mom - Event - Karma Cost: +0.25, Intelligence Cost: -0.25
Eh? Nerf BLM? Well, I NERFED YOUR MOM LAST NIGHT!
Derail target "Nerf ____" Thread.

Necropost - Event - Karma Cost: -1.60
"Well, since I got flamed for bringing up something that was in a thread seven pages ago... mmm, braaaaaains..."
Target dead Thread is no longer dead or derailed; the occupied Poster gains one point of presence on this Thread.
This picture's gonna be a zombie.

Flame War - Event - Karma Cost: -3.40, Intelligence Cost: -2.50
You suck. No, YOU suck. No, YOU suck, because you're a moron. No, YOU'RE the moron.
All Posters with presence on this Thread permanently have -1.00 applied to both Karma and Intelligence, if possible.

GTFO - Event - Karma Cost: -0.05
You know, if you're really going to bring up WoW in a FFXI forum, just GTFO.
Choose a Poster with presence on this Thread; they lose all presence on it.

GFY - Event - Intelligence Cost: -0.10
"I happen to like leveling as WAR/WHM. GFY, thanks."
You may only play this in response to GTFO being played; ignore the effect of GTFO on the given Poster.

FTFY - Event - Intelligence Cost: -0.40
Hm... let's see how we can make your post mock you.
Choose a Poster with presence on this Thread; while they retain presence on this Thread, they have -1.25 applied to their Intelligence.

You Fail At Life - Event - Intelligence Cost: +0.65
You call that funny? Yeah, you fail at life.
You may only play this in response to FTFY being played; choose a new target for FTFY.

Your Turtle Fails - Object
And you're not far behind it, either.
Upon activating, choose a Thread, and either nullify the effects of one Event for 5 turns, or remove up to three points of any type of drama from it.
A frame from that RDM soloing Genbu, preferably as Genbu's name goes grey, would be preferred here, as that was the ultimate failure of a turtle.

OMG They Killed It - Object
Yes, it's another premature announcement of Absolute Virtue's demise.
Upon activating, choose a Thread, and place two points of HNM drama on it.

Two-Fisted Monkey Style - Object
Yet another person is claiming that WAR/NIN is useful before 24.
Upon activating, choose a Poster, and inflict 0.30 points of Karma damage on that Poster.
8BT for the win here - find the comic this bit is from, and put in Black Mage's response.

Necessary Train - Object
Sometimes, someone just has to clear out the path.
Upon activating, choose a Poster, and inflict 0.10 points of Intelligence damage on that Poster.

Unnecessary Train - Object
Other times, you're just trying to farm.
Upon activating, choose a Poster, and inflict 0.30 points of Intelligence damage on that Poster.

Monkey Business - Object
And then there's the trains that make NO SENSE AT ALL.
Upon activating, choose a Thread, and inflict 0.50 points of Intelligence damage on all Posters with presence on it.
...someone will have to train all the Opo-opos in Yuhtunga Jungle to Kazham for a good screenshot for this.

RMT, By The Book - Object
Finally, there's people who don't realize the MPK patch exists.
Upon activating, choose a Poster you control and one you do not. Flip a coin; if you win the toss, inflict 0.80 points of Intelligence damage on the Poster you do not control. Otherwise, inflict 1.60 points of Karma damage on the Poster you control.

Taru Creampie - Object
...dear LORD, that is just wrong.
Upon activating, choose a Thread and derail it. The Poster occupied to activate this Object receives 2.40 points of Karma damage.

Galka **** - Object
...there's wrong, and then there's WRONG.
Upon activating, choose a Thread and derail it. The Poster occupied to activate this Object may remove up to 0.50 points of Karma damage.

Mithra **** - Object
Now that's morrre like it. ^..^
Upon activating, choose a Thread and derail it.

ROFLcopter - Object
What's that whirring noise? Something's funny... it's the ROFLcopter!
Upon activating, remove up to 0.75 points of Karma damage from any Poster.

Wall Of Text - Object
Someone seems to have forgotten every item of punctuation in the English language, including the key marked "Enter".
Upon activating, if any Poster has the Grammar **** Trait, its controller immediately takes a turn. Turn order reverts to normal after this extra turn.

Hey, Look! Over There! - Object
No, really! Over there! Behind the Galka!
Upon activating, choose a Thread and a Poster with presence on that Thread; remove up to 4 points of presence that Poster has on that Thread.

Dolphin Sex - Object
That's got to be a mislink. But I just can't stop reading...
Upon activating, choose a Poster and occupy it.

Care-O-Meter - Object
...yep, it's reading 0 again.
Upon activating, choose a Poster, and remove all presence they have on one Thread of the Poster's controller's choice.

JP Button - Object
no flavor text
Upon activating, choose a Thread, and put 4 points of JP vs. NA drama on it.

NA Button - Object
Dude, our version sucks.
Upon activating, choose a Thread, and put 2 points of JP vs. NA drama on it.

Call For Help - Object
Stupid dumbass! Don't CFH on Nidhogg!
Upon activating, choose a Poster. For the next 4 turns, all Threads they gain presence on get 1 point of HNM drama.

The Asylum - Object
Oooh. It's scary.
Upon activating, choose a Poster with the Troll Trait and occupy them. If their Intelligence is over 3.75, their controller gains control of The Asylum.

Do Not Push - Object
No, really. Don't push it. <snickers>
Upon activating, choose a Poster and return them, with all attached Traits, to their controller's hand.
Yes, this is the infamous Smiley: dnp button. (No, this one is not hooked up.) This card essentially logs out the Poster in question.

---

I'll finish up the remainder of the cards tomorrow (or so), which consist of:

Blather
Nerf ____
Friday Thread
Inane Drivel
Two Invites A Year
Inflation
Allakhazam
Mr. Rogers
Duck
Reality Check
Renkei Chart
Useful Guide

Let the... uh, "fun"... begin!

And now, the last part of the initial card set:

Blather - Thread
Blah, blah, blah...
This Thread starts at an initial Karma 1.00 points lower than the Poster occupied to play it.

Nerf ____ - Thread
OMG TEH BLU MAGEZ AER TOO POERFULL! NERF DEM!
When this Thread comes into play, choose a topic, and put up to 4 points of drama of that type onto this Thread.
Each turn, this Thread deals 0.20 points of Karma damage to any Poster with a presence on it.

Inane Drivel - Thread
"So, what's YOUR favorite kind of pie?"
Each turn, this Thread deals 0.20 points of Intelligence damage to any Poster with a presence on it.

Friday Thread - Thread
The next update will add... vampire ninja zombies! Happy Friday!
During your turn, you may choose to occupy a Poster.

Two Invites A Year - Thread
That's right - I only get two invites a year, because I play <insert melee job here>.
During your turn, you may choose to unoccupy a Poster; if you do, they lose one point of presence on a Thread of your choice.

Inflation - Thread
Damnit, SH is up to 320M now... I remember when it was just 310M! Stupid inflation!
During your turn, you may choose to occupy two Posters you control; if you do, search your deck for an RMT, By The Book Object, play it, and activate it. One of the two Posters you occupied must be chosen for the target you control.

Allakhazam - Object
It does roundhouse kicks! It defeats EVERYTHING!
Upon activating, you gain control of all threads. If Allakhazam is still in play at end of turn, you lose the game.

Mr. Rogers - Object
It's a beauuuuuutiful day in the neighborhood... to shoot some Commie gooks!
Upon activating, destroy a Allakhazam Object of your choice.
Mr. Rogers cannot be played in normal fashion.
This last line may cause a little confusion to some of you. It means that you need to use a card that either searches for Mr. Rogers and lets you play it then, or that just states "Play an Object from your hand."

Duck - Object
It's a duck. AND IT CAN DEFEAT ANYTHING!
Upon activating, play an Object from your hand.
...so, who remembers the whole "OMG, the Duck job!" thing from a couple of years ago?

Reality Check - Object
You guys DO realize it's just a game, right?
Upon activating, transfer two points of presence on any Thread from one Poster to another.

Renkei Chart - Thread
Ahhh... it's been updated again.
When Renkei Chart comes into play, occupy all Posters for one turn.

Useful Guide - Thread
What, people actually still make these?
When Useful Guide comes into play, occupy all Posters for two turns.

"Two Invites A Year" XD Loved that one.

I only get two invites a year, they occur at 4am on a Monday. They never have a healer, the tank is eating, the BLM is taking smoking breaks, the RNG is complaining about pulling, and the other DDs keep trying to cyber with me in broken english ><

Okay, time for a bump and another couple of cards.

Taodyn - Poster
Karma 4.65, Intelligence 4.85
Traits: Anti-Troll
If Taodyn and Spinshark both have presence on a Thread, remove all presence Spinshark has on that Thread.

Anti-Troll - Trait
This Poster defeats all trolls.
If the Poster this card is attached to gains presence on a Thread where at least one Poster with the Troll Trait has presence, all such Posters with Troll Traits gain the Failed Troll Trait.

Hell yeah! I'm card #3! But, my karma's higher than 3.85, and also you have my intelligence higher than Haggan's? I'm the unemployed loser ex-FFXIer who occasionally lurks on this board or talks in the Asylum. If you're gonna do me, do me right. Try this instead. ;)

It's not a matter of that I forgot either of you. (Though with Sarlos, and his sub-2k post count, I'm amazed I can remember him sometimes. :->)

It's just a matter of, as I PMed Exodus, I'll personally run out of ideas before I hit the 100-card mark. Hence why I'd like for more people to follow Taodyn's suit here and make cards.

As long as the card isn't horribly broken, it's fine. (See the Allakhazam card for how to take a card that WOULD be horribly broken and make it slightly fixed.)

In short: you want a card, you make it (or have someone else do so), unless you really want to wait 2-3 weeks, typically, for me to come up with inspiration for one.

---

Now that I've dealt with that, let's dip into the mailbag to go through the rest of the thread:

Deadgye: This would probably go to the "Page REALLY Claimed" card, Mr. 40 Out Of 50 Posts On A Page. :-)

Gir: You'll probably get a card soon enough. Especially if someone else does it.

Jamini: See... most of the cards that you're thinking are the rare/holo-type ones aren't. Out of the 63 cards (including Taodyn, Anti-Troll, and Karma Suicide), only 7 would fall into the category of rares (Haggan, Kaolian, Page Claiming, Taru Creampie, JP Button, Do Not Push, and Duck). By the time we officially hit 2nd Edition on this (probably around the 250 distinct cards mark), some of these will probably get moved to rares, but until then...

Sabo: The "Sporadic Posting" bit you added to the Traits is kind of redundant with the other additions you made. Either strip out the additions other than Sporadic Posting, and make the card for Sporadic Posting [FWIW: "When Sporadic Posting comes into play, choose another Trait in play..." is about how it'd begin, just for generality purposes - Grammar **** + Sporadic Posting FTW]... or just leave off the Sporadic Posting Trait. I'd prefer the first one. :-)

[Edit: As far as making the cards' images: that's not my area of competence. If someone could at least set up a template, I'll try and fake up a few of them, but until then, I'd rather have someone with actual skill at Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro/The GIMP/etc. do the cards.]

---

And finally, Card #64:

Post Diarrhea - Trait
My God, this Poster makes a lot of posts.
At the beginning of each turn, place a post counter on the attached Poster. If five or more post counters are on the Poster, remove all of them and discard Post Diarrhea. Then search your deck for an Invincible Karma card and attach it to this Poster.
The attached Poster gains presence at twice the normal rate.

Priran - Poster
Traits: Invincible Karma, Anti-Troll, Troll
Priran gives -0.50 Intelligence to all other trolls, and anyone with intelligence under 4.00
Priran only takes 50% of all Anti-Troll Effects. Priran is not effected by TrueFeba

Maaaan, I spend half an hour working on fixing things (adding in the actual rating system, which should have been in the rules from the beginning, not to mention some clarifications), and then IE decides it wants to crash THAT WINDOW.

Fuck.

That said... here's some of the things that I was trying to mention:

* Karma and Intelligence are done in 0.05 increments. Feba, fix that.
* Presence is increased automatically each turn, as long as you keep Posters occupied. The increases are equal to one-third (rounding down to the next integer) of the sum of Intelligence and Karma, plus or minus any adjustments.
* You can occupy a Poster to engage in rating changes - this is considered an action on a Thread. As with the real forums, the Poster doing the rating needs Karma above 3.00, and ratings are limited to once per Poster per Thread. (Well... that last is kind of a necessity, as Threads are considered indivisible objects here, not a collection of Posts.) Ratings range from -3 to +3; the effect of a rating is a permanent change in Karma equal to (amount of rating)*(rating Poster's Karma - 3)*0.05. (This makes the largest change possible from a rate be 0.30.) Invincible Karma works both ways here - rate ups, as well as rate downs, are zeroed.

I'll go through and start fixing any horribly broken cards tomorrow - which includes the vast majority of the cards Feba posted. (They're either using terms that aren't quite right, or they have vastly overpowered effects. My first suggestion, though: Change the "loses 30/50 points of presence" to 30/50% reductions.)

And Feba... (1) learn to count [you used 71 twice] and (2) I'm more active than "once every 8 turns". Give that to Sarlos. :->

First effort with a card template Here

It's loosly based around the format of a magic card as I find a graphic box over the text box easist to read in a card game.

Description of format -

Top left - Full name of card, including any titals. (e.g. Haggan's profile actually has the titel "Mountain Dew God")

Top Center - Card picture. For this one I chooes to blow up haggen's avatar and add some noise to help with the distortion. (Fortunatly, his avatar is fairly bland :x)

Center left - Type of card. I.E. Poster, Object, Thread, etc.

Center right - Karma/Intelligence
Lower center - Text box, includes all of the cards text as well as flavor text. (Flavor text is in italics. Even though Haggan has a lot of text I felt you needed to see how it would look)

Lower left - Card Rarity.

Here I used alla's karma colors to indicate rarity.

Grey - Very Common
Yellow - common
Red - Uncommon
Orage/Bright yellow - Rare (you did say the Haggan card was rare right?)

Lower right - Edition symbol/number. (this would be first edition, card no1.)

If ya like it I'll make more, if not i'll give it another go. ^^ I like this photoshopping stuff. (but now, i better sleep so I don't die in classes tomorrow)

The Haggin Card

Well, the Sporadic Posting trait is more of a limiter really. It would make my card only truly effective if there's a Gay Thread in play, otherwise every 3rd turn the player would lose the effects of the Saboruto card and everything involving the Saboruto card (presence, attached cards, etc). Basically it's Phasing from M:TG (if I remember the rules for that one correctly). But if you'd rather make Sporadic Posting more of a "take another card out of play for 1 of X rounds" thing, feel free to play around with it. I just figured that with the Gay mod on my card (when Saboruto comes into play, search your deck for a Gay Trait and attach it to a Thread of your choice; that Thread then becomes claimed by Saboruto), it's a bit unbalanced. Basically, my card can take control of a thread and keep it. But if the opposing player could find a way to remove the Gay Trait or get rid of the Thread my card claimed, they could nerf my card a bit.

Idea #1:
Saboruto - Poster
Karma 4.00, Intelligence 4.15
Traits: Invincible Karma, Gay, Sporadic Posting
Gay: When Saboruto comes into play, search your deck for a Gay Trait and attach it to a thread of your choice; that thread becomes claimed by Saboruto.
Sporadic Posting: Every third turn Saboruto and all effects related to this poster phase out and are considered to be outside play for the duration of that turn. Saboruto and all related effects are back in play at the beginning of the following turn. On any turn in which Saboruto phases into play, you may choose to move your Gay Trait card to a new thread.

Idea #2:
Saboruto - Poster
Karma 4.00, Intelligence 4.15
Traits: Invincible Karma, Gay, Sporadic Posting
Gay: When Saboruto comes into play, search your deck for a Gay Trait and attach it to a thread of your choice; that thread becomes claimed by Saboruto.
Sporadic Posting: At the beginning of any turn in which there are no Gay Traits currently in play, return Saboruto to your deck and return any target Trait or Event card to owner's deck.

Personally I like the second one better, but it's up to you if you want to use either one. And for the record, I officially nominate this thread for "Best FFXI Main Forum Thread" for 2006. =D

Heh. I'm going to fix 'em - I said I would - I just figured if you had another idea for how to fix it BESIDES how I said, you might want to do it yourself. :-)

(As far as the me disappearing part - I only did that once, for about three months, because I was spending a lot more of my time on FFXI than in here.)

Jamini:

Looks nice, as far as that goes, though I'd prefer something a little less of a Magic ripoff. (I suspect mine's probably a ripoff of some other CCG's card format, but it's not one I recognize, which is good.)

I'll put up a card template here - give it ~15 minutes before you try getting it. (Done in The Gimp, saved in Photoshop format, so we've got the whole layers thing going on for easy fixitude.) The layers are labeled; I dunno if card numbers are going to appear on cards (if they do, it'll be in the Flavor Text box).

The backdrop will be colored as far as rarity, roughly by the karma colors (so white-orange-red-yellow from most common to most rare).

As far as card title and type go - title is on the upper left of that box, type in the lower-right, and don't worry about any user titles in the real forums. Some (if not all) of the people with titles like that have changed them a few times.

(We'll change border color as we go through editions. 1st Edition is black-bordered; 2nd will probably be either blue or white.)

[Edit: wrong filename in the link. Fixed.]
