A Guide to EXPing in Aht Urghan

  • About:

  • With the availability of Sanction and it's bonuses Aht Urghan is a prime place for EXPing. However, I find that quite a few people who have access to Aht Urghan don't really consider it as a camp when creating an EXP Party. I've only started EXPing here on my Blue Mage once it hit 52 but I plan to EXP here quite a bit from now on. This intention of this post is to compile information on good EXP camps in Aht Urghan. If you know of a good camp and would like to share please post and I will add it here.

  • Standard Camps:

  • Lv.52-53 Wajaom Woodlands (M-7 The Postern) Target: LesserColibiri
This is pretty much the lowest possible level you can EXP in Aht Urghan at. Colibiri are a bit difficult to kill at 52 but with sanction the EXP can be worth it. The camp is right outside the Postern and you can easily zone back into the city. This camp only supports 1 party and after reaching 54 the Colibiri here will not repop fast enough for your PT. Colibiri have a weaponskill called "Snatch Morsel" which will steal the food from its target, and they will use it fairly often. The ability can be avoided using shadows. Colibiri have high magic resistance, but like all birds are weak to piercing. Colibiri neither link nor aggro. No other monsters are found in this area.

Lv.54-56 Wajaom Woodlands (K-7) Target: Lesser Colibiri, Fomor
This camp is directly outside the Al Zahbi exit and is a convinent location for exp, however, it is also a convinent location for people to kill them while LFG etc. This camp only supports 1 PT and is often full of Lv75s soloing them which can prevent this from being a good EXP Camp. During the day only Colibiri can be found here at night Fomor appear and can also be killed for exp. Colibiri have a weaponskill called "Snatch Morsel" which will steal the food from its target, and they will use it fairly often. The ability can be avoided using shadows. Colibiri have high magic resistance, but like all birds are weak to piercing. Colibiri neither link nor aggro.

Lv.54-60 Wajaom Woodlands (G-8 The Leypoint) Target: Lesser Colibiri
This is the largets Colibiri camp but will require some walking to get to. This camp supports 2-3 PTs and has no monsters other than Colibiri.

Lv.62-68 Bhaflau Thickets (F-8 Halvung Entrance) Target: Date Eruca, Colibiri, Assorted Trolls
Just outside the Halvung entrance in Bhaflau thickets Date Eruca, Colibiri and Trolls can be chained for exp in the 60s. Eruca are very much like normal crawlers except that their poison breath has been substituted for a fire breath. Colibiri still use the aggrivating "Snatch Morsel" and "Feather Tickle" moves of their lesser brethren, however, they also have the ability to "Mimick" magic spells cast on them. If a Black Mage is in the party they should be very wary as to what they cast on these. Trolls should be pulled only if there are no alternatives due to the fact that they put up more of a fight for the same exp.

    Lv.61-64 Wajaom Woodlands (H-11, G-12) Target: Puk
Puk are the small Dragon-like Chimera found in the southern regions of the Mamool Ja Savagelands. They detect by sight and sound, and are aggresive. They have a variety of annoying TP moves some of which will cause a tremendous knock back. Its advised not to fight these in an open area or you may find yourself being thrown into a large group of aggro.

Lv.63-65 Aydeewa Subterrane (Roaming) Target: Aydeewa Diremite, Puktrap, Defoliator, Mold Eater
These monsters can pretty much be found throughout the Subterrane. It is advised to pull them back into the tunnels as wind elementals sometimes spawn in the open rooms. Also be vigilant in some rooms Fossorial Fleas may spawn. Qiqrin do not aggro, however be careful of Mychopper's and Giant Amertat they do aggro. Puktraps neither aggro nor link, whereas Mold Eaters do both. Diremites aggro only. All aggro is sound excluding tigers.

Lv.64-68 Caedarva Mire (K-8 Outside Azouph Isle Staging Point) Target: Jnun, Wild Karakul, Marsh Murre
On the way to the staging point near the Status Marshes and just before the imps you can chain Jnun, Marsh Murre and Karakul. Jnun function like any other Doomed mob but have very low HP. Should start the chain with a sheep then 3 Jnun followed by a sheep/bird. The Karakul spawn Chigoe but they can easily be disposed of. During the day Jnun are asleep and during the night Karakul are asleep. Imps have true sight and if you step in the marshes you may receive a random beneficial or enfeebling effect.

Lv.65-68 Mount Zhaylom (Near the Coast) Target: Sicklemoon Jagil, Wootzshell
There are many places where these enimies can be camped near the coastline of Mount Zhaylom. Both crabs and jagils aggro to sound however in addition jagils link. These can be taken fairly easily with a regular party. Be careful of Utukku aggro at night, however, these are easily killable as well.

Lv.66-72 Wajaom Woodlands (I-7) Target: Marid, Chigoe
Marids are the large elephant-like packaderms found in the larger open areas generally in the northern section of the woodlands. When they use a TP move they cause a Chigoe to spawn. The idea here is to leave the marid alive as long as possible while chaining the chigoes. They can usually be 1 shotted with tier 3-4 nukes or taken out easily by melee. Be warned if you "Squash" a chigoe with a move like shield bash they will be instantly killed but will also not yield any exp. Chigoe hit very fast and cause disease on the target but are easily killed.

Lv.68-74 Bhaflau Thickets (Outside Mamool Ja Staging Point) Target: Mamool Ja, Watch Wyvern, Sea Puk
The main focus here is to kill the Mamool Ja and Watch Wyverns if your at the higher end of the spectrum, if your lower go after the sea puks. Mamool Ja detect by sight and link. Puks detect by both sight and sound.

Lv.70-75 Caedarva Mire (Outside Dvucca Isle Staging Point) Target: Heraldic Imps, Lamia Idolator
As with all Imps one should be careful around these, they aggro, link and have true sight. Spongilla Flys do not aggro but link by sound. The swamps here will give a random beneficial or detremetial status effect if stepped in. The main target here is imps using flys as filler. Imps have very low HP and defense and can be easily shredded by powerful physical abilities such as lv70 BPs like Predator Claw and high level weapon skills.

Lv.70-75 Mamook (G-6 Entrance from Staging Point Area) Target: Spinner
The main focus here is to kill the Spinners that pop in the area, they do not aggro however they will link to sound. Erase is recommended due to their strong AoE slow. They are like any other spider.

Lv.73-75 Mamook (F-8, H-8, J-8 Second Map Entrance on first map is J-12) Target: Mamool Ja, Watch Wyvern, Sea Puk, Spinner, Nipper
The main focus here is to kill the Mamool Ja and Watch Wyverns, Spinners, Nippers and Sea Puks can be used to keep the chain going. Some of the Mamool Ja pulls can be difficult as they tend to come in pairs. Mamool Ja link and aggro by sight, however most Mamool Ja down here have true sight, its best to fight your way to the camp and get exp as you go. F-8 on the large raised penninsula right past the large Mamool Ja building is the best camp because you can pull from all directions. The puller should stay up on the raised area around the edges and pull. It may seem a bit out in the open but its safe. Warning: If a Sea Puk is pulled onto the raised area make sure to stand near the wall, if not windshear will knock you right into the aggro.

Lv.73-75 Mount Zhaylom (J-7 Far side of Gates of Halvung Requires Cast Metal Plate) Target: Hilltrolls
The main focus here is to kill the Hilltroll Dark Knights and Hilltroll Rangers. Others can be killed as well but will put up more of a fight. There are many spawn points around on top of the buildings and this camp can support anywhere from 2 to 3 parties. Hilltrolls detect by sight and both link and aggro. Flan in the area aggro to Sight but do not link, they also aggro to Job abilities.

Lv.73-75 Caedarva Mire (F-9) Target: Elder Treants, Imps
The main focus here is to kill the Treants for chain 1-4 then use the imps to finish off chain 5 and up. This works well with a standard party, however a whm is recommended due to the high damage of the trees as well as annoying AoE abilities like lef storm. Like all imps, imps in the area posses true sight.

  • Beastmaster Camps:

  • Lv.66-70 Wajaom Woodlands (H-11) Pet: Aht Urghan Attercop Target: Puk
Puk are the small Dragon-like Chimera found in the southern regions of the Mamool Ja Savagelands. They detect by sight and sound, and are aggresive. They have a variety of annoying TP moves some of which will cause a tremendous knock back. Its advised not to fight these in an open area or you may find yourself being thrown into a large group of aggro.

  • Duo-Quadro Camps:

  • Burn Camps:

  • Lv.73-75 Manaburn Mount Zhaylom (I-7 Far side of Gates of Halvung Requires Cast Metal Plate) Target: Ebony Pudding
The main focus here is to kill the Flans in the area. Flan in the area aggro to Sight but do not link, they also aggro to Job abilities. And just like flans in previous FF they are extremly resistant to physical damage while they are very vulnerable to magic. A party can also pull Troll's automatons to keep the chain going. Trolls aggro to sight and link.

  • Submissions

  • If you'd like to submit a camp please include the levels the camp is suitable for, the name of the area, the position(s), the monsters being targeted for EXP and a brief description of the camp including aggro/link information and any special abilities to look out for.

Posts discusses how you can go from 70-75 on the Imps. That should be another camp spot you should include in this.

    Good stuff!

I believe they can steal it through shadows anyway, i remember a ton of sole being stolen while soloing as NIN..

Level 64-68 possibly even lower - Caedevra Mire - Target: Jnun (The Doomed Type Mobs), Sheep (forget the name)

THere's a camp on the way to the staging point, while I don't know the position, htere are lots of sheep and a few heraldic imps floating about. THe ponds have tainted flesh mobs in there. It supports one party where we were at. There were VT to me at 67 and we had a 68 in the party.

The Jnuns (sp?) are like any other doomed type mob, but they only had about 3500 hp. You can kill them incredibly fast. The sheep spawn fleas, but one cast of firaga 2 would wipe them out. They were T to me at 67. Use the sheep to sustain chains between the flesh.

Pull SHeep to start then the three flesh, then another sheep or possibly a bird. Go back to flesh. We could reliably hit chain 6, with almost no downtime even after our bard passed out. Exp was about 6k per hour. I think it would be much higher at level 64-66.

    ***

Can you really do Colibri that low? I recal the last level that any were VT to me was 61. Now they are all T. I'm guessing that puts them at about level 64ish.

We did crawlers, diremites, and flytraps (to keep chain) in ad. subterraine. Anywhere is fine. If you see a large room on the map thats where they are pretty much. Can pull back into the tunnel to be safe (think toramas in lab of onzozo) or roam in the big room if you like. This was 63-65. At 65 they were still giving 150ish exp before chain.

Keep in mind the diremites and crawlers will slow you, so a whm for erase is nice, especially for nin tank. Regular crawler and diremite TP moves. Elementals spawn in the large rooms but if you pull back to tunnel you should be fine.

Also, in one room you will have to deal with flees. We only saw them pop in areas where you would really have to go out of your way and aggro them on purpose though.

Did 66-68 in Thickets just outside the Halvung zone. Colibris, Eurcra (crawlers) and Trolls available to pull there. We generally stayed away from the trolls just because they take much longer to fight for not that much better exp.

Colibris will eat food with one of their TP moves. I just brought cheap sushi instead of sole, with BRD I still had great ACC and kep hate except of the occasional WS from the MNK. Note that Colibri use Feather Tickle which drops the targets TP to 0, Snatch morsle steals the targets food, and another move can remove up to 4 shadows (Beak something). Also "Colibri" will mimic any spells cast on them. BLMs are ok to bring, but better off with a heavy melee damage, and never use an -aga on them. "Lesser Colibri" will not mimic magic cast on them.

Eurcras do the normal sticky thread and cocoon moves, but also have a fire breath move instead of poison breath. Breath move is based on the mobs HP, 7-700+ damage as NIN from breath.

I've been considering making a thread like this.. though, i'm at a stopping point in where to go next. This is what I have so far.

    59-63 Wajaom Woodlands - Lesser Colibri (I-7)
    63-65 Wajaom Woodlands - Puk (H-11)
65-66 Aydeewa Subterrane Entrance through Wajaom(I-6) - Crawlers
    65-67 Bhaflau Thickets - Crawlers (F-8)
    66-69 Mount Zhayolm - Crawlers (L-8) or (J-8)

Beyond 68, I have no clue. I've been really picky about my pt's since AU came out. In all of my pt's, this has been my setup: BRD, WAR, NIN, MNK(or WAR), BLM, WHM(or RDM).

Using this pt setup with BRD pulling and having a new enemy WAITING for us when we kill current enemy and pt'ing in these areas at these levels (and not before these levels), my pt's have gained everywhere from 6k per hour all the way to 14k per hour. Making chains of 6+ is made really easy.

I have tried to go to some of these a level or two before my recommended levels and xp will drop from 6k+ an hour to 3-4k an hour.

    I hope this helps ^^

Thanks for the feedback everyone I hope this can soon become a comprehensive refrence point for anyone looking to PT in the east. In response to two things.

Q:Can you really exp on Colibiri that early?
A:Yes, and I really can not figure out why people would still be exping on them at 63. They are starting to give rubbish exp at 57.

Q:I beleive shadows do not prevent snatch morsel no?
A:They usually prevent it, though I beleive it may sometimes go through. I beleive its based on Ninjutsu skill our Ninja hardly ever got his food stolen, however as sub ninja it usually stole mine through shadows.

Also what crawlers do you keep referring to in Aydeewa. As far as I'm aware there are no crawlers there. I substituted in worms thinking thats what you mean if its not then I'll fix it.

And for your Puk camp. I looked at the puk levels and it seems like your level listing may have been a bit high. They would only be Tish at the minimum level you listed so I lowered it a bit too. It seems like most of your level listings were for the mobs to be T-VT. This is more for VT-IT.

And also if you have any Solo/Duo/Trio camps etc tell me but specify that they are for for how many members.

I think about 64-68? You can xp off the crawlers for sure in Mount Z, maybe even the flies but the one camp we tried the flies were low VT and jumbled together so linkage is for certain. There are at least 2 possible camps we found.

Edit:Link/Aggro is same as Boyhada, only difference I noticed is Crawlers spit fire instead of Poison, which conveniently catches Thf's the split second they get behind tank with a Cotherdie on >.>

Snatch Morsel goes through shadows, but does not waste them.

There are crawlers all over in Aydeewa.

All my camping is done on T-VT rarely IT (Low IT if anything). By chaining these nonstop (no downtime... ever) I gain more xp than your typical pt's IT++++++++++++ hunting... My highest chain is 59, my LS member got 123.

People that think T and VT aren't worth your time... Think again.
    #12 May 27 2006 at 12:04 AM Rating: Default
Did not say they were a waste of time just saying the manner in which I'm listing them. Also I guess I'll have to go re explore Aydeewa. I never saw a crawler and Somepage which is usually reliable does not have crawlers listed as a monster there. Are they standard or Wamoura type crawlers?

I'm gonna hit the sack now if anyone adds anything It'll have to wait till morning. Thanks for the submissions everyone! If you do any obscure mini PTing (less than 6) or are a beastmaster or have done any Mana/Arrow/Ws w/e burns also include them thanks!

And also if you see an error in any of the camps or if you can help with the locations of the camps (those listed with ?? are not entirely sure) I'd be thankful.

Uber awesome thread and here is my contribution:

The colibri you can fight at Bhaflau Thickets (F-8 Halvung Entrance) are actually very easy for a party of 61-62 to take on. In a party setup of WHM, BRD, BLU, NIN, WAR, and THF all 60-62 we were getting chain 4 on the colibris with no downtime whatsoever. I'm assuming then you could stay there from level 60-68 just taking on colibris ^^
    #14 May 27 2006 at 12:54 AM Rating: Default

I don't suggest those Colibri because they have a reflect effect. For you non-FF buffs, this means they will mimic any spell cast on them. Have your BLM cast Freeze on one.. see what happens xD

Just a correction for you here. Puks do not link. They will aggro to both sight and sound but never link. I can testify this as I levelled on them as BST and I could set my pet on one that was right next to another.... never linked.

I'm a 'FF buff' and Colibri do not have reflect on. If they did- magic would be ineffective against them and would always bounce back on the caster/party. You were correct that they do mimic the spells tho. I have not partied against Colibri with a BLM, but while enfeebing as a WHM I was constantly dia'd para'd and flashed.

LOL omfg....ok I never knew that. I'm going to do that....just to see it.

The Caedarva Mire camp is near the Azouph Isle Staging Points (its right outside. Literally.). Also, you can use Jnun for chain holders.

    3 Camps here:

Mount Zhayolm: Requires a Cast Metal Plate. Hilltrolls, namely the Ranger, Puppetmaster (and his Automaton), Dark Knight. Others are killable but some (Paladin) may take a while. This place might be good for a TP/War/Nin Burn, but I think a regular Party would probably get great xp/hr (especially ones that make light.). Repops are quick. There are several camps, mainly on top of the buildings in the area. I'd say you could support 2-3 parties comfortably.

Mount Zhayolm (Manaburn only, really): Behind the area where the Hilltrolls are, are Flans. Flans are easily manaburned (ah, a classic FF-staple), and chains are supposedly quite high, even for a manaburn. A BLM party could also pull a Troll's Automaton to keep a chain. Special note: Flans aggro to Job Abilities........

Caedarva Mire: Just Outside the Dvucca Staging Point is another XP Camp. Qutrub, Lamia, and even Imps are here. I think Qutrub have a 200% phys damage trait (whether thats a JA or just inert, I don't know for sure.). Another party could camp at the zone to Arrapago. I think there is some drawback to this: One of these is the Dvucca SP is a hard one to get. Granted, I dont ever see many parties here, but probably because the other Caedarva Camp is so f'n godly.

I've been in parties that did the crawler's and diremites in Aydeewa Subterrane at level 61. The xp was downright awesome. Diremite slow sucks though.

Thanks for the contributions everyone. Pluto: Do you mind including the levels for those camps ^^; they look great but I have no idea what levels thanks! And if anyone could give me the specific name of the "Crawlers" in Aydeewa I'd also be very happy. I have found no sites listing crawlers in that zone.

The crawlers in Aydeewa are called Defoliators. There are a few big rooms full of them, sorry I can't tell where, we were kinda lost when we ran into them ^_^;; The worms in Aydeewa don't look too bad either (a few tunnels with ~10-12 of them here and there) as long as you have good sleepers/silencers, they come in clumps of 3-4.

The VT to 75 imps are also great for duo, nin/war and rdm/whm duo'd to chain 5 for ~7k/hour. Probably would've netted more if had just packed packs full of echos, been rdm/war and meleed instead of playing with a bow out of silence range. Because of amnesia you need to watch your hate though (even I got smacked for debuffing a few times when nin couldn't voke). They don't hit particularly hard though.

Right outside the Ilrusi staging point there's at least 4 of the lower lvl imps, that might be a good smaller, lower lvl party place. I saw a smn soloing there when getting the staging point.

Then there's the wamoura merit camp on second island of Mount Z. VT to 75. Possibly manaburn material, the 30-50 dmg per hit blaze spikes they put up are painful for tp burn. It's 50/50 whether you dispel it first try or not as the buff puts up both enfire and spikes, so even with dispeler on their toes melees can take a lot of dmg. Just leave the Apkallus alone no matter how sweet exp they look like... they get nastier and nastier the more of them you kill.

All the camps I listed are lv 73-75, and also Merit spots :)

Might I add at around 59-63ish you can fight Aydeewa Diremites and Defoliators (crawlers) in Aydeewa Subterrane (sp). I think it works in the northern or southern entrances off of Wajaom Woodlands.

    BST Camps:
Lv69-70 Wajaom Woodlands (haven't tested since I'm 75, but have heard nice things)
    Aht Urgan Ahttercup vs Puk
Strategy: Charm spiders, fight Puks. Watch out when casting Dia, on light/lightningsday, it will give them 100% TP instantly. Also, wind based magic/WS's (shouldn't be a problem with Rampage) will recover their HP. Also, Zephyr Mantle will absorb all Rampage damage (5-shadow move.)

Lv72-74 Wajaom Woodlands (maybe? Leeches /check DC at 75)
    Leech vs Leech
Strategy: Fight near Marids (VT, don't even TRY to take these things, they summon little Chigoes, a major pain.)

    BLM Solo:
Lv75 Wajaom Woodlands (Recommended sub RDM, possible with WHM)
    Marids
Strategy: 450 EXP+ with band, but don't let them get TP, will summon a pet that will horribly mangle you.

Actually have a BLM cast Freeze and run out of range when the bird uses it against him. That way have the melee beat the crap out of it while it's pointlessly casting magic for a good 12 seconds?

I dunno if this works, just an idea.

I'm sorry for the Newb question, but i'm still sort of new to the expansion. What's Sanction? What does it do? and How do I get it?
It's Aht Urghan's version of signet, talk to some guards around the zone from Whitegate to Al Zahbi. You get Imperial Standing Points instead of Conquest Points, and you can get bonus effect while your sanction is active: Regen, Refresh, Food duration x2, but each cost 100 ISP to get.

    Camp:
    Marid & Chigoe
    66-72
I7 or H7 Wajaom Woodlands (Possibly others, only did this camp once)
PLD NIN THF BRD RDM BLM 7-11k/hr
Give the marid TP so they spawn Chigoes, which die easily with a tier 3/4 spell or a WS. You'll want the Marid to last a long time so you're chaining off the Chigoes. Marid use a DEF Boost move, don't Dispel it, you WANT the mob to last as long as possible. Chigoes have perma-Hundred Fists and instantly die from a JA (shield bash etc) but wont give XP. May take you a couple Marids to understand how to get the XP from them and understand the concept and pattern to which you should XP from the Marid / Chigoe combo.

Note: the BEST thing for BLM is to spam tier 1 spells for TP, then tier3/4 the chigoe. With my setup, BLM NIN n THF would take turns killing a chigoe solo while the other 2 gave Marid TP. With PLD using Spirit's Within when he reached 300% TP. Communication of who is next to kill a chigoe is necessary.

Warning: I noticed the Marid would spam TP moves or summon multiple Chigoes as it got closer to death. I was the BRD in the party so I'm not 100% sure on why, but there was 3 chigoes up at one time, a few times during the party, and this is what I think & perceived.
