Here you go:
http://tune.ache-bang.com/~vg/modules/gsbbs_zero/upfiles/3978_AltanaView.zip

In addition to your standard model viewer, this one allows you to view maps, spell effects, music, etc.
I don't think theres a translated version yet, so you'll have to navigate through the japanaese menu.

Since this is a japanese program and it doesn't allows you to select your FFXI folder, I assume this has something to do with the registry setting. I have the Japanese version of FFXI installed, and the model viewer works fine for me.

Yeah this just dawned on me too. You need to add the JP registery entries to your computer for it to work. You dont need the JP version of the game, just the reg entries, which are obviously different from the NA ones.

Anyone know what they are?

For those using the NA version of FFXI, you might want to give this a try:
[ This is taken from the original site: http://tune.ache-bang.com/~vg/modules/gsbbs_zero/ ]
Quote:
This software works only with FFXI Japanese Version by default.
To run with English Version, try following:
* Create a new file named "AltanaView.ini" in the same location as the extracted "AltanaView.exe"
* Write the following in this file

[FFXi]
PolInstallFolderKey=SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\InstallFolder

or

[FFXi]
InstallFolder={{ Your FFXI Install Foler }}

* Run "AltanaView.exe"

I see Tiamat has updated with the registry info. I wrote this over on FFXIDats.com a little bit ago before Tiamat updated.

[edit 2]Hmm, I actually read closer what he wrote, and that seems alot easier then everything I just wrote... Well I'll just leave this up anyways if you can't figure out what Tiamat means or if you just want to make it look like you have the JP version of FFXI.

------------------------------------------------------
Registry Edit
You may only want to do this if you actually know what you're doing in the registry. First, open the registry editor (start -> run -> "regedit". Open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Inside that folder open the SOFTWARE folder. Scroll down, if you only have the US version of FFXI installed you should be able to find a folder called PlayOnlineUS.

Now comes the editing part.
1) Go back up to the SOFTWARE folder and right click on it and choose to add a new key, this should add a new folder to the list, call it PlayOnline.
2) Right-click on the PlayOnline folder you just created and choose to add a new key, call this one InstallFolder.
3) Now the right hand should be pretty blank with only a (Default) key in there. Right click in the blank space and choose to add a new String Value, name this 0001.
4) Double click on this new entry and put where you have FFXI installed such as: C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI inside the textbox. If you're not entirely sure of the value to enter here, go to the InstallFolder folder in the PlayOnlineUS folder and copy the contents of the 0001 entry.

When you get done it should look similar to this

http://phabin.noncouncil.com/ffxi/Misc/jpreg.jpg

That's all the info needed in the registry to get AltanaView to run.
------------------------------------------------------

Oh, and there's a spell viewer in there too Spell casting pic

Also, this last bit on Tiamats post

I'm sorry, but I will not support in English.

I can try and be your english support. I'm also going to be updating the list files for the AltanaViewer with english ones, but that's going to be a bit later, for now I'm going to sleep.

[edit]Formatted the guide a little bit better

Phabian's technique worked- thanx a bunch. Great find! Just wish it was in english cuz I enjoyed listening to some bgm's that I haven't yet heard.

Had a play about with this after work. Thanks Phabin, you solution works great.
It looks pretty nice, although, like the other Modelviewer, I loathe the camera controls. Oh well. I enjoyed casting Fire 4 and 5 on my character :p

I'll have to have a proper look at it later, since I only really messed about with the spell casting bit.

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!

I really like this model viewer, but can't seem to figure out the controls for viewing outside of clicking and dragging with either mouse button. This is vastly inefficient for changing the view on things, especially if they're very large to begin with.

Any tips?

Clicking down on my mouse wheel seems to turn on the zoom motion for the camera.

camera controls are left, middle, and right mouse buttons. It's confusing at first but becomes 2nd nature after a few tries.

I really like this whole layout. I am curious as to why the ToAU music isn't there? I'm assuming this program is using something similar to the winamp plugin and is rejecting the ATRAC3 music?

I dont think so man =/, i asked this question before about the mac and people told me it uses the files that are installed and the model viewer needs those files to show you what it can.

I guess you can always just get a copy from a friend that plays on PC and just install. Or.. well... you know.

On another note. Man, would anyone be able to figure out how to export these things and use them in a rendering program? It'll be a new level of sigs running aroudn in the ffxi community. I guess best bet would be someone who already reads japanese, cause from what i see, which is basically not much lol, there is no save to mqo option.

The camera controls on this thing are nuts... choosing the last option in the second menu at the top will snap your camera back to original positioning though.

You can use the existing program (see Phabin's site - sadly, I'm at work at don't have the link), a little program called Metasequoia (a google search should yield results), and a plugin for 3ds max 6. With a little bit of tweaking, it's possible to end up with stuff like this.

Yea i use those programs, but i was just wondering if you could still export mqo files from this new model viewer.

I wish you did commissions for gil :p

I'd love to have something like that done for our LS, or at least a smaller group of people in it ;;

I'm lucky enough to get the Model Viewer to get me stuff I can do Backgrounds/Sigs with...3D is another level for me.
