I'm getting a new PC next week, and I don't really like thought of typing out 8 banks of macros again from scratch.
These macros's must be saved on my Laptop somewhere, can someone let me know the location of the file(s) and if copying them to my newly installed game version on the new PC will work...

Please help, Thanks

Even if you get a new computer, if you log in with your same character your macros will still be there wont they? I dont play on computer, I'm not sure but I thought they were saved to your character on POL, not your hardrive.

C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XI\USER

They are in there. The Folders in the USER folder will be a combo of letters and numbers. Just copy and past the entire USER folder and your map markers, chat filters, macros, and even how you sorted your spells will be there.

And no, your macros are not saved in game. They are on the user's side only.

Thats exactly what I do, I copied my entire User folder to my external Hard Drive. Now if I ever reinstall FF on my PC after formatting, all I do is install the entire game, update it, and copy that User folder back to my PC and all my macros, AH sorting, etc, are back to normal.

darn, someone beat me too it. I had to do this a while back when I had to reinstall FFXI. Worked like a charm :)

Someday soon my friends, this ride will come to and end, and we can't just get in line again.

Here's another thing you can do. Log on with the computer that has your macros, go to the character select and highlight the character, then hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift+B. This will Backup all your options, including your macros. Then on the computer where you want to move them to, highlight your character and hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R to Restore your options.

Yeah, that backs up your macros onto the computer they are already on. It's not very helpful if you're moving to another computer.

Oh, sorry. I thought it was to move them onto your character data. Well that sucks...

Actually be careful with copying and pasting that folder. There's a chance the files will get corrupted. I've never had it happen to me, but I usually copy the subfolders individually, to cut down on the risk. Backup everything too.
