Nasty rumor spreading about POL scanning running appsFollow

EDIT: SE has confirmed that this rumor is indeed FALSE. There is no scanning going on, and this rumor was apparently just that, a rumor.

----------

Windower users, be warned!

SE did alot to POL this update.
POL scans all your running processes when you load it up as well. Windower users should be careful, not sure what they do with the information after the scan, but it could be possible they flag your account if they find a windower process running.

This is from the datamine thread on BG (won't beable to view BG forums unless you have an account there).

There is no conclusive news from Wiccaan and co. yet, but for the windower users, be very careful and cautious.

Remember, this has not been confirmed. At this point, it is only a rumor. A serious rumor, but a rumor nonetheless.

I'm not scared, I doubt there is any truth in this for one main reason.

They would post info on POL's website about changes to the ToS, because in order to scan our PC's they have to have our consent. They also need to publicize the change to the ToS.

I thought they already had something like that.

I'm still not scared because until they release their own windower they will lose a LARGE portion of their users of they ban for windower. Would be nice if this detected Fleetool, Mrargus and POS though.

SE does not have a Warden type program like Blizzard does as of yet. I'm sure eventually they will and quite a few PC players will leave. But that won't be at least until the official windower is released.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

They wouldn't have to ask permission for FFXI to detect intrusions into it's memory space though.

There could be any number of false alarms as far as memory intrusion especially if your video card shares memory from your board. And just because there is an intrusion doesn't mean something is affecting the client.
#14REDACTED, Posted: Mar 07 2007 at 5:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) FYI- Yes SE is running a scanning tool and you cannot run FFxi unless the scanning tool is running. This tool has been installed to catch all of you cheaters out there that feel that you are special and do not need to follow the rules.

who cares? they've already said they're working on a windower for ffxi, they just need to deal with the complications of windows vista and the 19 different windows platforms it runs on. whoopteedo. day late dollar short, all those cliches, they shoulda come out with this **** 5 years ago, ill continue using windower til im done playin this game. whether by there choice or mine i dont care ^^.

PS. if they did ban windower, or get rid of the pay warp taru this game would so not be worth playing anymore!

For someone who has worked on computers for for over 20 years you sure have a lot to learn about online games "Computercrasher". Smiley: oyvey

Ive been working on systems for over 20 years and this program is a basic key logger/spyware type program which can be found in your C\system/programs files on windows.

If you're using a ps2 you are SOL because there is no way to stop the program. The CEO of SONY has stated that most ppl do not know what a key logger is , so why should they worry about it.
LOL.

That's the biggest steaming pile of bullcrap I've read in a long time, and I check Allakhazam daily for Christ's sake.

What else do I need to find, I mean I have only been running windower for 3 years now. I play with my firewall turned on and have never once had a security issue due to a "trojan" or "keylogger". I think you should stick to Mac's, because not only do you not know what you are talking about as far as windower. You say you have more important security issues to deal with than an online game.... I sure hope you don't get paid for it if you think SE is running a warden style program on PCs I hate to see what security risks you find for you employer's. (OMGWTFBBQ Windows Update, what's going on here!) And as far as the PS2 goes the only "monitoring" software it uses is the DNaS protocol.
