Is anyone else getting this error when they try to log in:
Error Code: FFXI-3113
Protocol time out error.
I get all the way through POL to the point where it goes full screen and asks you to accept the terms of service. After I do that, it gets to the message "Acquiring player data" and then hangs there. After a minute or so, it gives the message above.
I already updated my client the day the patch came out, and have had no problems logging on since. I'm not having trouble reaching anything else on the net -- I can even send POL messages and do anything in POL just fine. I don't use any 3rd party tools, not even Windower.
It's also happening on both PCs in my house, so it seems to be network or FFXI server related to me.
Any ideas?

if its happening on 2 different computers its them and not your computers more than likely.

I have the same problem to, playing on an xbox and my internet connection is fine.
This happened to me this morning as well on my PC. I was logged in & switching between mules just fine. I was about to do my last mule switch, but when I logged out of my main, I just got a dark screen with the normal title screen music. I figured it was just hanging, so I hit alt-tab to force a full screen error and return to POL. Every subsequent login resulted in a hang up at "Acquiring player data".
Thinking it was something to do with a botched logout on my PC, I tried logging in on my 360, and still hung up in the same place. Not sure what to do from here other than call tech support.

yup same thing is happening to me, it started happening about a half hour ago. i play from an xbox 360 btw.
Same thing happened to me this morning. I tried every option I could think of. PC and XBOX give same error, as well as logging on thru wireless and wired connections. I'm pretty sure its SE, despite what this says, because I didn't change any network settings overnight. Gonna call support tonight when I get home from work if its still down.

Danm it me too. And this is the only time of the week I really get to play this bites. Hopefully somebody posts a solution. Gonna try to find one myself in the mean time.

same thing, spoke to se on service and help. live chat. all they could say is, we are working on it. so normal crap then

Have a pal ingame sending me POL messages. Tells me they are doing maintanace in some zones. I logged off in Kon highlands yesterday. Other people on the other thread similar to this one that were in game said they started to D/C while zoning into zones (some were also zoning into kon). I guess they are trying to fix problems in zones and we can't log into them until they do. Its a waiting game after all. :(
i got on, but i used Eu one cuz i live in uk, Yes they said they know they have a problem, and that they are working on it, they took my sever, internet type and provider. maybe means something to them, all they said was that they are working on it and to sit it out really,

Got the same error, otherwise POL is doing fine. And I actually managed to update my laptop's FFXI client despite of this problem... Let's hope it get fixed soon.

SE live chat people still saying there looking into it, thats all they will say, i asked if there was anypoint re-instaling FFXi, they said atm there isnt, but that could mean we might have to. I asked if the problem was therefore server side, to which they ignored my question. Im off now, hopefully it will be sorted when i come back later.

I also got teh problems =/ 10 days away and I come back to this. Booo

I am still having the same issue, but I seem to see people on my friend list able to log on and off with no problem... weird.

well 2:47 est glad to know its not my machines cpu or ps2 cant log in going to do other stuff should be fixed by the time i get home from work. /em crosses fingers. I agree with whoever posted about this being a free week to play and with update and now this I lost a good 2 days of lvling nin for a sub. Oh well good luck getting in guys. I will stop spamming accept over and over so maybe you can get through the one open portal.

If you'd care to read the recent SE news posts, you'd see that there've been a lot of timeouts due to heavy server traffic. This isn't a problem from the new update that needs to be fixed; they're just getting a lot more traffic than normal with people downloading the update. This makes perfect sense, considering the fact that it's now friday night/saturday morning in Japan, so a lot of japanese players are just now downloading the update. So just be patient and wait it out.
If this were just heavy server traffic we would be able to occasionally get a little bit further in to the login process, the fact that we all stop at the same place shows there's a bigger problem here..
